Sorry, aimee! I know he was your favorite and it really sucks how they have done this to him. It is a shitty way to send him off having so much potential to do it right...at least with Sami and their kids. I know I shouldn't be surprised at how they are treating him after all of these years on the show, but I am.
Not surprised that AS didn't know...her new golden boy seems to be GG.
And I know it isn't right or fair to blame GG for this, but I felt like the second that GG came in, BD's point and plot line was gone. BD could have hid Sami away, or schemed with Sami to keep EJ in the dark. Lucas shot EJ and loves Sami...no reason that they couldn't have used him instead of Rafe. Lucas also has ties with Kate and Phillip and Maggie, and has two kids on the show, a history with EJ and Nicole, a very large vocal fanbase...lots to be told there given a chance. I care about Lucas. There are many newbies that I couldn't care less for. This sucks!
BD's last interview was filled with snark and sass...I wonder if he knew something then. So sorry Lucas fans! I know this sucks!
Thanks. I am still really sad. I can't remember the last time I was this upset over a stupid tv show. I totally understand that. It's embarrassing for me to admit how much time I spend talking about this show, thinking about this show, campaigning for the pairing I like on this show, etc. But I do - and I can only imagine how upset I'd be in the same situation. It definitely sucks for you and all the BD/Lumi fans. And you guys have every right to be upset and sad about it. :'(

What is going to make this one so awkward is the fact that Lucas shares two children with a very prominent character on the show - so it seems like his constant absense will be conspicuous sooner or later. But perhaps they thought it would be harder to write him out given that it would be unlikely he'd go off and leave his children.
So does that mean he becomes the new Mickey? Will Sami and Will just refer to Lucas, but we never see him? They're going to have to bring it up at some point. They had to do that with Steve and Kayla earlier this year. People would just refer to Steve and Kayla as if they were still an active part of Salem, but when it became apparant that Stephanie's parents should be there for her when they weren't, the show then decided to reveal that Steve and Kayla were off in some third-world country doing relief work. I'm sure in a few months, it'll be mentioned that Lucas is in Africa trying to form a relationship with his dad, Bill Horton. Either that, or he'll end up in Switzerland, which is quickly becoming a mirror city of Salem. :eyeroll:
It actually reminds me of when Roman left in 1994. He and Marlena didn't have a young child like Allie, but I remember thinking (and I still judge him for this) "seriously...you're daughter lives with you. You can't just leave!" Then he wasn't there for so many big things in his kids' lives over the next few years. Yet he was never the parent that got the brunt of the "not being there for me" crying from Sami, and he left then by choice. I wonder how this will play out because I don't particularly buy that Lucas would leave his children...or even Kate for too long. I don't think Lucas is much like Roman (and I still don't think Sami is at all like Marlena), but if this plays out with him leaving town, the situations are similar. And that's all completely irrelevant, but it occured to me in the middle of being about to type something else that I've now forgotten... I agree. Roman was a police officer and a former ISA agent. He had been those things before having children. He has no problem leaving town and his family behind. Lucas, on the other hand, has been written for years as he is a family man. He would do anything for his children. His children are the most important thing in his world. No way would he just decide to leave town without them. If anything, I think they should send Allie with him. She should be closer to him than Sami anyway, who tends to even foget that she has a daughter. It's all about Johnny and Sydney. Allie who? If that's not the making of a future Sami in Allie, I don't know what is. Pay attention future writers. A piece of the next teen storyline is currently being told!

These writers are so intent on writing the cliche soap triangle with a female victim in the center, torn between two guys, one is usually the white night while the other is the evil son of a bitch. That's the way the writing has been for years. Fortunately for Dattilo, Lucas has been the white night for the last few years. But when Gering was hired, Rafe meant that Lucas was no longer needed. Screw the history he has with this show. We're going to throw him into another storyline, another triangle, and one that he's a part of but doesn't even appear to be a part. It's shameful.

Brady: Hey Sami. The house sure is quiet, where are the twins? Sami: They're great! They're with Lucas for the weekend.
Arianna: Hey Sami, I saw the twins the other day, they sure are getting big! Sami: I know! Will and Lucas took them camping!
IMO, it makes more sense to shuffle the absent/nonexistent twins with an absent/nonexistent father/ex-semi stepfather.

Exactly. I'm starting to think this show WAS better off under Ken Corday, in some ways. And that's why a lot of us DAYS fans react the way we react when shit like this happens. We're just not used to it. For years, our favorites were always featured and we were always granted treats of past favorites returning no matter how much they cost or how much they weren't needed. But giving those treats to the audience nearly cost Corday the job. So from a business aspect, this is his life after all, he's smart to let Tomlin, who is a businessman and knows how to manage a soap, it's smart to give him the reigns.

I preferred Corday's style of destruction.

And that is where it's complicated. The sentimental aspect of this is that you would love to keep vets like Dattilo, Evans, Nichols, Hall, etc but at what cost? It's not just about pay cuts anymore. That isn't enough. It's part of it but it isn't enough. I think if Days were able that they would've kept most of those they let go of, regardless of Tomlin. Days was always caving in to fan protest when they let someone go but that cycle only made things worse. The problem is Corday waited too long for big change. Had he not been so careless Days may not have had to do something so drastic. Instead, it was like a constant revolving door of writers and cast members and that isn't good for any show.
I know some feel like they would rather have no show at all then to have to lose so many beloved characters and to see what the show has become BUT you have to remember that there are still many people who stand to lose their jobs if this show leaves the air. Corday and co have a responsibility to them and to the fans to do what it takes to keep the show going. Has the business aspect taken precedence? It sure has but it should've long ago. If it did, Corday still could've held on to some of the vets but he dug too much of a hole, sadly.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if, a year from now, DAYS re-casts Lucas and uses NuLucas as a leading man who can become the Hortons' new patriarch.
For whatever reason, the various DAYS writers have never seen BD as a leading man, so Lucas's fate was always tied to being Sami's friend/enemy/lover. Lucas never really got a s/l that was independent of Sami (except for the horribly written Chloe/Lucas s/l, and even then, Lucas ended up as Chloe's cuckold). Now that Sami's busy with EJ and Rafe, there's really no place for Lucas to fit into Sami's s/l, and it just seems like the writers don't care about BD enough to create a new romance or s/l for him.
Anyway, regarding a re-cast Lucas, I could see DAYS doing this as a way to bring back Lucas as a stronger character and connect him more to the Hortons. (Whenever a character gets re-cast, there's usually a personality change involved.)
And if Maggie's upcoming s/l has long-term repercussions, then I do really think we'll see a re-cast, take-no-prisoners Lucas pop up in about a year: Aside from Lucas's present lack of s/l, Lucas still has ties to numerous important Salemites, which could create a wealth of storylines. (Don't get me wrong; I've always enjoyed BD's work, but I do think that the writers might want to have a new take on Lucas, which in the writers' eyes, would probably mean a re-cast Lucas.)

and they decided to go with the new guy. I guess it leads into new characters to write for and all of that...but I don't think Lucas was done...until they paired him with Chloe. LOL!

There are many women who identify with Sami and admire Ali.
I'm not being sarcastic at all when I say I honestly can't imagine why. The character is uneducated, unemployed, has a passel of kids she doesn't pay attention to unless forced to and doesn't really do anything interesting at all any more. I don't see her as a role model in the slightest, not to mention which she has the fugliest hair on the planet. The uneducated, unemployed, neglectful mother stuff wouldn't bother me on a character who was supposed to be a loser or at least a villainess, but Sami isn't that anymore. I'm supposed to apparently be admiring her heroism and wonderfulness even though I see not one thing about her that would make me admire her. When I'm looking for role models, people like Sami Brady don't come to mind. Word, word and more word.

But aside from Tomlin, who else, behind the scenes, is from PSNS? If anything, the writers that were brought in after Tomlin joined the show have more OLTL backgrounds, not PSNS.

I'm starting to think that might not be such a bad thing. I'm with you. I would rather see the show end when it's still good than to watch it slowly die like now.

The lazy writers are to blame, not Gering. I don't know if being the "white knight" the last couple years was that fortunate for Dattilo. For some viewers (or at least me) that turned me off Lucas almost as much as Sami's whitewashing as the show's main heroine upsets me now. The times I liked Lucas were when he worked for Tony and when he had his drinking problem and when he acted out. Austin was so boring and it feels almost like they tried to Austin-ize Lucas the last couple years, at least when he was on.
One of the things that I actually found interesting about the EJamicas triangle, or at least in the beginning in the theoretical potential of it that was never actually realized on screen, was that both pairings were dynamic and involved shady guys who were totally aware of Sami's bad girl side and either were attracted to her because of it or loved her in spite of it. I mean, obviously, Lucas's sins, especially recent sins, were nowhere near as bad as EJ's, but at least in his past Lucas had tangled with the anti-Brady so even if my guy EJ didn't get her there was a chance we'd get to see old Sami again even with Lucas.
But with Rafe? :puke: I mean this Rafe douche didn't find out about Sami's ex-husband Brandon until her baby got stolen... :eyeroll: He knows nothing of Sami Brady. Maybe the show's writers don't either?

Bryan Datillo leaving doesn't make me that upset, as it was obvious Lucas' only purpose was Sami or yelling at Kate. But if Maggie falls off the wagon I will be pissed Lucas won't be there to help her through it.

If I were still being entertained, I wouldn't feel that way. But I'm not. It's got very little to do with the characters that have been let go or sentimentality. Days doesn't feel like Days anymore. The resident bad girl is having butt kissed by everyone. The villains are everywhere. There's one recognizable couple, and they're barely a couple. There's approximately three sets. There are no Hortons, and there really aren't very many Bradys anymore. Most of the younger set are just invented characters. There's no familiarity and what little there is barely used. I don't think Corday's main responsibility is to his actors. It's to the people he's trying to sell this product to, and the product sucks. Don't get me wrong. I don't want anyone to lose their jobs. I just don't think their jobs are worth much anymore.

From a business perspective, definitely. From an entertainment perspective? Well...I guess they've both done their own seperate parts to completely destroy the show in different ways. I preferred Corday's style of destruction.
Me too. But sadly, if his way was still the way the show was run, we probably wouldn't have a show right now. I think this sums it up. From the little we hear from actors it doesnīt look like Tomlin is some autocrat, who is not communicating with the actors at all and just rules everything from upstairs, but he can be very firm or even cruel when he believes it will help the business. Good thing is itīs not personal so if the show will believe they have a story for Brian in future and he is still available they will bring him back the same like they brought back Anna.
As for the exit, I have feeling Tomlin believes in clean cuts and he doesnīt want people who are fired to be on the show for another two months till they tape their last episode and lower the morale. Both Dylan and old Arianna recasts were done behind the actors back and now Brian was again informed only after he already taped his last scene.
