This sounds really good. I'm sure that Suzanne will be awesome with the aftermath. I'm sorry to see Mickey "go". But I understand their reasoning. It will be sad though.

Poor Mickey. I'm sad we are losing another Horton. Especially with Lucas leaving as well. I am glad that Hope will be turning to Bo in the aftermath. It should be some good stuff with Bo and Hope. I just hope the writers don't stuff it up!

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
Well, they all were supposed to die but Corday balked.

That is Corday's problem. He has no spine. If he did, he would've forced JER to kill Mickey instead of Maggie like Drew suggested. He let JER push him around early on. Corday always does that and it always takes things getting really bad for him to finally take action and the result is always a watered-down mess.

Anyway, I'm not one to throw things out there like this but I will here. Dena Higley had NOTHING to do with this story. That I can say with 100% validity LOL.
This isn't the thread to discuss the SSK story, but I was debating my friend who also watches DAYS. I said Doug and Alice were killed off after they decided to bring everyone back, has that ever been confirmed? I doubt they would have killed Alice for real, and she was never taken off contract. I took that "death" as nothing more than shock value.
It was never confirmed publicly but there is no way Doug or Alice would've been "killed" if they hadn't decided by then to bring them all back. Corday promised Bill and Susan Hayes that neither would be killed off and literally two weeks later we got word Doug was next. Corday may be a liar and an idiot but come on. He would also never do that to Frances Reid and Frances admitted she knew she wouldn't really be dead and that Corday discussed this all with her prior to the material.
In their book, Bill & Susan Hayes said they did not know that Doug's "death" was not going to be permanent. They said Frances Reid was the only actor who was told up front. Corday called them while they were on vacation (in China, I believe) and told them they wanted Bill to come back to the show for a while just so they could kill Doug. If he refused, they were going to recast the role & kill him anyway. Some time after Doug was killed, Corday called Bill to tell him they were reviving Doug & swore him to secrecy, he wasn't even allowed to tell Susan. They made a big announcement at the studio and brought out each actor who had been re-hired one-by-one.

And regarding the Hortons, "The Hortons are not gone. I think we're going to see a whole new branch on that tree."

Let me guess: Melanie cheats on Philip with Nathan, gets knocked up, and voila, we get a new Horton AND a WTD? story all in one convenient shot. I wish I could convince myself that isn't exactly what's going to happen.

Sounds good, though! I do hope Mickey's death has repercussions and effects beyond the funeral and a week after. It would be nice if it kicked off more story. I'm not a huge Suzanne Rogers fan but I'm sure she'll do a great job with this material. And it does sound like the rumored accident or something similar might happen.

Thanks for typing all this up, Ellie! That was a lot of information to condense and summarize, particularly with those Corday quotes. :tounge:

Is a writer's contract like an actor's contract where it can be ended every 13-week cycle? If that's the case, then why hasn't she been fired or demoted or whatever? It's ridiculous that someone else is responsible for what's appearing screen, but Higley gets the praise, or vice-versa. When storylines are bad, Higley shouldn't receive the heat. This is just stupid to me.
Thanks to a very strong guild, writers recieve a more substantial contract than actors. Reilly had money coming in from his Days contract up to his death. He was still being paid as Days head writer years after he was let go. Hogan got the same type of deal, and there are others (Wyman, Langan, etc....) who got paid long after leaving. Their contracts were too generous for a daytime drama. Corday is known for paying well, but after Days fell of a ratings cliff in the early part of this decade, he should've scaled it back.

Corday will not let it seem like Dena has stopped her duties, but everyone knows she's just collecting space.
But I don't think Higley's part of the WGA anymore. Didn't they find out she was actually writing when she was supposed to be picketing?

Phoenix is right. Dena had nothing to do with this. Tomlin and Rogers have known each other foir a long time. He has been her advocate, and she has proven to be worth every assertion he has made on her behalf. A whole new generation of fans have fallen in love with Maggie after a very long break from her presence on screen.

When Corday makes it seem like Dena is doing something, it's simply because he doesn't want his management style called into question. Corday has had countless head writers and producers on payroll who did nothing. He has paid out several contracts to fired writers, and his financial mis-management has led to the massive budget cuts we have seen recentlty. His recklessness with Days money and contracts is epic, and he doesn't want it known that he has another head writer on staff, collecting a hefty salary, while doing NOTHING!

Higley does contribute, but very little. She gives "A woman's point of view" and may voice concerns, but no more at this point. This is a Tomlin/Whitesell production. They have done VERY well in redefining this show, and taking it back to it's core values. I just feel bad that Chris doesn't get more credit, but it will come, in time.

I agree with this. There is no way Dena Higley is coming up with great storylines like this one. Tomlin/Whitesell have done wonders to the show since they've come on board. We all know what kind of stories Higley has come up with in the past and they haven't been good.

If Maggie is the new matriarch of the show, then I feel that she should have Hortons to advise rather than random kids.
Its so weird that Maggie's house has become the halfway house of Salem. Its like Irene from Home and Away, if anyone's familliar with it. Somehow every young person in town with no parents comes to live in this small house with apparently endless rooms.

They at least need to SHOW us the funeral and hopefully we get Doug and Julie for it at the very least. I'll be very annoyed if Melissa doesn't show up, but I wouldn't be surprised, either.

Is John Clarke in bad health or something? I HATE HATE HATE the fact that either DAYS didn't invite him back for 2-3 episodes or he didn't accept the invitation to return for a VERY limited run. This rings hollow a little now.

Given they send the scripts to his house, I would say they invited him back. He did have a stroke a little while ago (Suzanne said this in an interview a few months back). I don't think his health situation is serious but I do think it holds him back from doing a whole lot. I think he would've returned for closure otherwise.

Branco's Suds Report states that SOW is reporting Lisa Trusel will be back for Mickey's funeral.

Melissa is probably the most important person to have there. I'm glad they are bringing her back but I do hope she's not the only return.

This is awesome!
You know what else is awesome? I love how we're all in agreement that it's going to be a great story for Suzanne. :) After all the Phellanie/Phini/Nelanie/Mathan/Stathan/Nephanie/Ejamucusafe/Bope/Barly arguments, it's nice to see so many posters rooting in unison.

I can't wait for this SL. Suzanne is wonderful and I have no doubt, even if written shoddily, that she will bring her A game. That's why I like the vets so much, they make wine outta sewer water.
