The following article of mine was published in our local newspaper at the time of Christopher Reeve's death. (I live less than a half hour west of where Reeve lived) Keep Reeve's legacy alive (Original publication: October 13, 2004) To his legions of fans, throughout the world, Christopher Reeve was "Superman." But, before he shot to superstardom as the Man of Steel, I knew him on the small screen. I, along, with millions of daytime viewers, watched him perform on the CBS-TV soap opera "Love of Life," where he played Benno Harper. During the course of his storyline, Benno became, of all things, a bigamist. I knew, even then, that he had unique qualities that would serve him well during his career. After he left the mythical town of "Rosehill," he went on to the city of "Metropolis," and the rest, as they say, is history. Nine years ago, when he suffered his accident, it would have been very easy for him to retreat to a private life, and concentrate his energies, solely, on the insurmountable odds that now confronted him. But, Christopher Reeve refused to give up. Indeed, it was his "love of life," his courage and tenacity that truly made him a real-life "Superman." His death should not be in vain; stem-cell research should and must be allowed to continue. That is why I will be casting my vote for the only presidential candidate (John Kerry) who favors this key that will, someday, allow thousands to discard their wheelchairs and walk again. May God bless Christopher Reeve; he will always be in my heart. |

I remember Christopher Reeve on Love of Life. John Aniston played his step-father. |

LoL is one of those soaps I never got to watch, but fell in love with through old SOD synopses. I've got that 1975 ep that's floating around with Christopher Reeve on DVD and I love every minute of Tudi Wiggins' overly dramatic Meg and John Aniston's hysterical faux-Latin accent. |

Oh, I loved Tudi Wiggins' Meg! I think she may have been the snobbiest character I've ever seen on a soap (she may have even been worse than Iris Carrington). Yes, John Aniston's character on LoL was a far cry from Victor Kiriakis. Eduord (sp?) was supposed to be a playboy and just after Meg's money. I managed to catch bits and pieces of most of the soaps in the 70s. This one was aired around 11:30 a.m. which seems strange now! |

Thanks for the thread and for posting the episodes Drew! She really was terrific as Meg! I never saw the original actress but Tudi was a sophisticated jet-setter who was still attracted to rotten and wealthy men! That era of LOVE OF LIFE really SHINED! |

Thanks for posting! I've never seen this show. Still love Tudi. One consolation of getting older is that I was around to see wonderful actresses like her (though it spoiled me!). |

Someone posted an episode from 1975 on yt! The great Tudi Wiggins is featured, as is Christopher Reeve, playing her son, Ben, and John Aniston, as her ex, Eduardo. I'd forgotten John used an accent on this show. http://youtu.be/1lihvTuP1Ks http://youtu.be/Z5EHrue6mQc http://youtu.be/BoWQPsWD7WE http://youtu.be/y19TQT3D-Hk http://youtu.be/HqNHA_U15wU Edited by jam6242, Sep 18 2011, 05:43 PM.

He used one on SFT, too! Everytime I watch that LoL ep (I have it on a DVD) or any of his eps from SFT that are online, I really have to try not to laugh because he sounds SO different. |

I believe so since the Tourneurs were supposed to be from (I think) Louisianna. I don't know if it's still on youtube, but there was a full episode of SFT once featuring both Aniston as Martin and Maree Cheatham as Stephanie that was SO beautifully played. I could listen to Maree talk all day with that voice of hers. |

Zina Bethune, who played Barbara Latimer, on 'Love of Life,' was the victim of a tragic hit and run accident over the weekend. She was 66 years old. I have nothing but the fondest memories of her on LOL, but also in the film (1960) 'Sunrise at Campobello where she played Anna, the daughter of FDR (Ralph Bellamy) and Eleanor Roosevelt (Greer Garson) |
