On a different note, am I the only one that sees sizzling chemistry with Arianna and Troy?
I don't know if I would qualify it as 'sizzling' but they look pretty together and I agree they have chemistry. I enjoy Troy, he's handsome. He might not be the best actor but his eyes and look are striking and not in the vacant way Chloe's eyes' are striking. If the actor playing Troy stepped it up a bit in the acting dept and the writers took it easy with him, I would welcome him with open arms. I feel the same way about Troy. Tis a shame the guy is not a better actor. I want to look at him a little longer. Easy on the eyes.

Sami looked like she had dinosaur head. That is an odd type of braid. Is this the new French braid?

Lysie, I was paying attention to Sami saying that and I still was confused! lol
The Twist. Not surprising I got lost in all the back and forths about EJ being the kidnapper and the twists. From the beginning, when I heard there was going to be a second napping, I thought what a stupid ass twist. That's not what I consider a twist, it's a continual milking of a s/l barely alive on life support. A twist would have been that Syd is an Ejole baby or the DNA results got all screwy because Sami and Nicole are sisters. I have no faith that who ever the mastermind is, that the plan has a smidgen of intelligence to it. So far Anna's role in this is annoying. if EJ or Sami is behind the kidnapping you don't show them distraught while alone in order to trick the audience. It can be done but I don't think Days has what it takes at this point in time to make you go "Ah Ha!!" Also, to a smaller degree it disappoints me that little Sydney looks happy as can be with Anna, is she some sort of baby whisperer? One of the redeeming factors to Nicole's plot was her connection with Sydney. I was looking forward to seeing Sami have a hell of a time consoling a screaming baby, crying for her mommy, now it doesn't matter anymore.

I think you need to look at the babyswitch story from the writer standpoint. It was great story but it didnīt have the deep longterm consequences you go for in a continuity drama except a potentional custory battle and we already got more than enough of that. Ciaraīs three weeks kidnapping and Ransom rerun accomplished more in 3 weeks, so this second kidnapping was sort of necesseraly to give it what soap needs. It shatters the Rafe/Sami equilibrium, it gives Sami a reason to start trust EJ again and it gives writers the big shiny secret hanging above their heads ready to unwrap at the worst moment imaginable. In that it works.

They could have shaken up the Safe equilibrium by having Ej and Sami getting close again and not necessarily in a romantic sense. I thought they already had a secret in Rafe's background with what really happened to Emily. Since they've tried to make Rafe so mysterious to begin with no one even cares what his lame ass secret is anyway so they shot themselves in the foot.

It can be done but I don't think Days has what it takes at this point in time to make you go "Ah Ha!!" Hear, hear! (or Here, here? never know which one is the appropriate usage)
The lack of clues being revealed throughout the story is what bothers me. If EJ is indeed the mastermind then I would rather have seen him plotting while he was alone than looking bereaved. If he was behind the whole thing what was the point of him sending himself the ransom note while he was alone? (Cameras in DiMansion is BS, we all know how well those work). BlackGlove EJ always delivered the notes when Sami was in the company of others to up the stakes and keep her on her toes. Why not deliver this ransom note during the vigil and then they both have to figure out how to keep quiet? That would have given me more interest in the vigil as well. Shocked EJ in the Foyer is not very dramatic.
I'm sticking to my opinion that EJ being the mastermind is logical; he is a nefarious DiMera, he has motive, he is angry, he likes vengeance....it's not a twist and certainly not shocking.

Anyway, about today's story. Obviously the proceeding was a farce as sentencing hearings don't work like this at all, but compared to the ridiculous insta-trials that AMC had recently for Stuart's murder and Annie representing herself for lying to police about Adam killing Stewart, this was a freaking Law & Order episode in comparison. So that part didn't bother me save the bits involving the teens.
I really loved the actor playing the judge and all his comments criticizing Sami and EJ and I enjoyed all the reactions of the people in the peanut gallery from Sami's huffing to EJ's smirking at Brady showing up on Nicole's behalf to Nicole's expressions when everyone was ripping her to shreds, but the Mia-Chad involvement bugged me. First of all, Chad's father is the DISTRICT ATTORNEY. If he doesn't want Chad on the stand, Chad doesn't get to say boo about the sentencing unless Nicole's attorney calls him on her behalf and she would've had no reason to. It's not like testimony at a sentencing hearing is some suggestion box where you can add whatever your thoughts are or it's a "speak now or forever hold your peace" wedding situation where it's appropriate for anyone attending to add their thoughts. Maybe if Chad's father wasn't the DA who he was telling off that he was going to testify anyway it wouldn't have bugged me when it's not like the court proceeding was that realistic otherwise, but because Chad's dad was the DA it just raised red flags with me.
The other bit that bugged was the snippet of Mia on the stand complaining about Nicole convincing her to lie to everyone about what a slut she was. Now at the time, I thought it was really pretty cruel of Nicole to convince a stupid girl whose baby she took and let die without telling her to further lie and damage her reputation just to advance Nicole's schemes, but at this point the writing/acting for Mia has just gotten so insufferable I basically have no sympathy at all for Mia and was sitting there trying to even figure out how that was relevant to Nicole's sentencing hearing at all.
What had been a promising triangle between Nathan/Melanie/Phillip is now totally off the rails. I can't believe they have her now in bed fantasizing about Nathan now that she has Phillip when like a month or six weeks ago we got the same shit of her in bed with Nathan fantasizing about Phillip. This is supposed to be romance? Because when all of this was started and after all the work they put into rehabilitating the character of Mel I was really starting to like her and see her as the rootable young heroine of this show and when it started I could have rooted for Mel to be with Nathan -OR- Phillip but the way it's going down now I don't want either pairing. She's just too damn fickle and so are the writers to have any investment.
Excellent post, IMA! Chad giving his dad a little attitude turned me off about him. I am so over his little disrespct thing he has going for his elders. He really ain't all that. Chad didn't need to say shit...unless it was to Mia who intended on selling his baby to a shady doctor and not bothering to mention it to him while he was in drug rehab. Other than that, he needs to stfu!
And Melanie...I was on the fence as to who she should be with and was going to give it to the writers to make me want her with someone, but after her constant flip flopping between the two guys...gee whiz! I could give a shit who she is with and would rather her off my screen. The rushing of the wedding also bothers me...why?

While she was with Philip, they didn't even give her wistful glances away during their scenes. It's like what they used to do with Belle and KB-Philip. Belle always looked so happy to be with Philip UNLESS Shawn was in the room. Just....does....not...compute. But in this case, it's even more vapid for Melanie, because at least Belle and Shawn had history.
GIVE THE JUDGE A CONTRACT! He was awesome. And, my girl AZ was so terrific, in an understated way.

Okay...this is not really the right thread, but I didn't want to get the UNSORASed one too far off the...tree (?), and it does kind of fit here. Did they SORAS Sydney's age? Did Sami recently mention her turning two, because I totally missed that. No - Rafe and Sami were talking about NEXT New Years, and how Sydney would be turning 2. She hasn't been SORASED! :)

Brady and Arianna don't have a chance, so any scene they share just seems pointless to me.
Mia was pretty decent as a bitch, convincing Gabi to come to court in a way that didn't make it seem like she was up to something. Mia knew that Gabi wouldn't like the fact that she and Chad had a baby and she was right. I'd like to see a little more bitchiness come out Mia. It's definitely where Spreitler excells.
Goody, Rafe's back in the FBI. :eyeroll: Everyone should feel "alot" more safe now.
I'm glad the judge called EJ and Sami out on their own pasts in the courtroom. I hate when these two try to act like their pasts can be cleared because he is EJ DiMera and she's Sami Brady. God! These two are soooo made for each other, it's sickening. They're one in the same.
Nathan and Stephanie are a complete bore. Melanie needs to realize her feelings for Nathan and act on them fast, because I'm over this quadrangle already. If the writers would keep writing Stephanie like they did the other day, things would be great. However, she's back to being the boring, pretty girl, who just stands on the side and waits for the guy to come to her. Go after him, Stephanie! Be the person you're supposed to be! What happened to the whore that came back to Salem in 2007? Yes, I get she was raped, but that didn't stop her then and I'm not sure why it has now.
Thank God Melanie's quitting the nursing program. The thought of her being a nurse was laughable. She belongs at Titan.

I wish someone would explain to me how I can like Melanie. I can like Philip (smarmy though he is). I can really like Nathan. And I can actually Stephanie now that she's got a little backbone and bitchy to her. But, for the love of all that is soapy, all four of these people in the same storyline does nothing for me.

I actually like Melanie's desire to be a nurse but a part of me does wonder if I only wake it because it helped develop her as a character or because it works for her character. It worked at the time because they needed to get people who hated her to like her. It was a nice redemption arc but I do have my doubts whether she should be a nurse permanently. She seems like too vibrant a character for that but I'm on the fence.

I'm sure many feel the same. I enjoy the quad but I will admit that it has been a struggle developing it over time. It's only the past few weeks I feel the quad itself has gotten to the point it needs to be.
My biggest issue is that the show ignored Stephanie's role way too long. I know Shelley had that break in late September but after the sex tape she went away and her role in the story never picked up again until recently. That two months should've spent developing her role in this. They did a good job developing Nathan and Melanie and even Philip's role but Stephanie seems like someone just tossed in to make it a quad. The past two weeks is the first time they did anything to actively involve her. I just hope it continues. They started doing it when Nathan first showed up (Nathan and Stephanie went out a few times and Stephanie still had it bad for Philip) but, as I said, they dropped the ball with her big time after the sex tape until now. This story can't be what it should be if they don't continue to actively use her in it as a character.

It totally works for her character.
