Note to Sami Brady: when you have canary yellow hair and multi-colored roots, don't pull your hair back so tightly that said multi-colored roots show. It looks tacky and makes you seem like someone who shops at Wal-Mart at 2:30 in the morning with a 5 of your screaming kids while you're wearing your pajama bottoms and houseshoes.

The roots didn't bother me as much as the resemblance to a horned back dinosaur. I don't know. The rest of the hair was TOO smooth and that brain was just too..............bumpy?

Braid, not brain! Although...............

^Yeah her hair is just so so awful. The color, style, braided, unbraided - all of it. Her clothes have been awful as well. She should try to borrow some of her clothes from TBL. She looks way better dressed for that show than this one.

Why do they insist on making her boobs squeeze out of those tops like toothpaste? I just don't get it. There are classy ways of showing cleavage, but sometimes on soaps, they slap women in clothes showing cleavage for the mere purpose of...showing cleavage? Often, Sami's sweaters are obviously made to wear a shirt underneath by their cut, but.....oy, veh.

The concern I have is that it would limit Melanie a bit as a character in the long run if she is a nurse.
How so?
Alot of the reason they made her a nurse was as part of a redemption arc to get those who hated her to like her. They also did it to bring Nathan into the mix and create a quad. All that has been done. My concern is that the character would lose her edge and become too nice. There needs to be a balance with her because I think that her flaws is what makes her the character she is. I can just see it being a problem down the road. It's the same issue I pretty much have with her pairing with Nathan. I like her being a nurse and like her with Nathan but, in the long term, will both things water her down too much and make her some goody-goody heroine? That is my issue. It may not or it may and I may end up liking it. Who knows. I just want to maintain what IMO keeps her interesting. I don't want the character to lose her spark.
Well, seeing as nurses are human (as are teachers, ministers, police officers, etc), nursing doesn't have to be equated with all that is pure and golden. I know some pretty spunky nurses, spunky teachers, flawed people in positions of service. Why can't she be spunky WITH a heart? I still don't get the reasoning. They made Sami a goody-goody, and they certainly didn't send her to nursing school. The nursing aspect doesn't have to be what turns her into a goody-goody, if that's what happens. For that matter, why can't Nathan be turned to be cynical later? Who's to say they don't have plans to make this heartache turn his personality? It can work both ways.
Absolutely. I just have my doubts that the show will consider all that and continue to keep alot of what makes the character work. I can just see them saying in the writer's room "Well, we can't have her go there because she's with Nathan" or "She can't do that because she's a nurse and we need her to continue on her path to Horton sainthood." The Horton element of it is what bothers me because I think it ties into the nursing. The Horton's are big at the hospital and that is clearly why (in addition to a redemption arc) they positioned Melanie there as a nurse to set up her relationship with Nathan. I just worry they will try to lay it on too thick that Melanie is yet another Horton good girl/guy working at the hospital, continuing the tradition, and that they will ignore other aspects of her character. We'll see.

Spoiler: click to toggle

I just hope this won't ruin days chances of being renewed.
Seriously, with all due respect, enough with the doom and gloom. Days has done far worse and seen little to no audience erosion (hell, sometimes they've gone UP). It will be fine.
I think the show will be ok too but I wonder if the spoiler will have a backlash.
Spoiler: click to toggle
If anything, all it will do is get one particular fanbase worked up but I don't suspect the backlash to bleed over into the ratings.

I staying in the camp that says this is not a brilliant/twist, it's just a logical outcome for the story. The explanation of Anna's participation through the use of flashbacks (if indeed that is what they will do) is a poor story crutch for a story that has been going on for eons. The other glaring omission is in not using Johnny to tell EJ's story of revenge. Johnny is loved by both Stefano and Sami so where is that kid anyway?

Days has no idea how to tell a nuanced story. The way they plan/throw together their storylines rarely feels solid to me. They keep the plot hyper-ambiguous, not committing to events that would dictate the direction of the story. The plots ends at a destination that may make sense in combination with enough speculation as to how the character felt and acted offscreen. Watching other soaps you see the story fall together over months as concrete clues are given and as some one said earlier, you get an 'Aha!' at the end because it all makes sense. A build up - a reveal.
Great post. Although I do think the writing has improved in some areas, Chris Whitesell isn't Ron Carlivati. He isn't Marland, Nixon, etc. He IS good, but let's not build him up to be the savior of Days here. :)

What were the numbers last week, 2.0? I could see a 1.8 or a 1.9, but the ratings are so fluid. Look at ATWT. Canceled by CBS the week it was in last place and now it's above OLTL and AMC?

All the soaps dropped last week so I wouldn't put much stock in those. Even if one did, the lowest numbers for Days were early in the week and they picked up viewers as the week went, including for the Christmas Eve episode (which dealt heavily with Bope's breakup).

The show was good today, but I have a few comments.

As far as speculation goes, it seems this EJ/Anna connection is a new development. Anna certainly didn't act like she would expect someone, ever, and EJ was shocked to see her, too. I think, as opposed to the mastermind speculation, he made a discovery and is turning it to his favor against Rafe/Sami.

I'm loving this Maggie storyline, but today's scenes were just off. Suzanne was great, WTF was with her scenes with Lexie? Why with Lexie? Why not, say, Julie? Or, if they needed a contemporary, make it Hope, and change the dialogue to coincide and show Maggie's faith that Hope's marriage will get worked out and Hope having her doubts and being wistful, like Lexie was. Not that I mind seeing Lexie, but it was random and out of place. Then, the scene at the end, I feel, would confuse anyone who hasn't read spoilers. There were small hints, mentioning Mickey, fingering/removing her wedding band, then breaking down, but I don't know. For Days, it was almost too subtle. It was good and I enjoyed it, but I don't know how newer viewers would.

Arianna needs to just dump Brady already. Damn right he's addicted to and still hopelessly, devotedly in love with Nicole.

Poor Chad. Poor Will. Happy Mia got her little bubble burst.

No quads today. No complaints, either.

Okay, my main problem with that ending with Maggie is that if it were me and I'd just found my dearly loved husband dead, I think I might be inclined to call an ambulance immediately. Even if I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was dead (and I knew there wasn't foul play involved), I'd at least phone a doctor, not sit in the kitchen and look wistfully at my wedding ring. IMO, Suzanne Rogers was wonderful in the material, but the material didn't ring true to me.

The Maggie stuff is much better after you see tomorrow's episode. I was initially bothered to when I watched the episode but I'm glad they did it like that. It makes for a really heartbreaking scene with Hope.

As for EJ and Anna...

I agree the writing has improved greatly as they are now actually telling stories that have a beginning and an end, but the pacing still needs improvement. Whitesell/Tomlin have done a good job creating A and B stories and the consistency is way up, however Days is very bubblegum and soda; lots of calories with no nutritional content. I enjoy the show much better than the past year and a half but I don't expect much from it either.

For those who do not wish to see EJ being a sap for Sami while she is mooning over Starfish Hernandez, I am pretty happy with EJ being the mastermnd of the Sydnapping. It does make sense given the subtle clues along the way and KC's emphasis that the babyswitch reveal would be interesting in the way it impacted EJ. His trust in anyone other than himself is now zero. And given what he heard on Christmas Eve, I'm sure he more determined than ever to make sure that he is not cut out of his daughter's life. I also love that EJ is back to being a smart guy who is three steps ahead of everyone.

I love EJ like this too. All he needs is his black gloves.

By the way, I love the moniker "Starfish Hernandez" I think it is HAWWWWWTTT!
Too bad that I think the nick name is hotter than the character.

Thanks! I just shortened the moniker Prevuze gave him. But I think it may stick. LOL
