FWIW, I didn't know that Rapemi was the combo name of the rapist and Sami, I thought it was directly targeted at the Ejami fanbase from the notion (of some) that people who like Ejami must like getting raped. It's like Kenny said, phonetically it sounds like rape me. I don't really care either way but that's what I had thought.

Paxton, LOL about The Rapist and Therapist. A comedian did a bit about how when he was a kid and his parents got divorced they sent him to counseling and shit his pants at the sign on the door.

I used to love when Stefano called Kate "Katerina". He doesn't do that anymore...now it is Kathryn. I like it. Roman called Kate "Katie" and I hated that. Kate is NOT a Katie.
I love how Stefano calls everyone by their full names, period. EJ is Elvis. Kate is Katherine. Sami is Samantha. Lexie is Alexandra. It makes him sound so regal, LoL.
Don't forget Abraham for Abe. Giovanni for Johnny.
It does make Stefano stand out when he calls by the full name, add that to rolling those R's and he is just the coolest dude ever! LOL!
Love him!

I understand aimee! Funny...I never thought I had such thick skin when it came to people calling names, but I guess I do.
I find Rapemi kind of humorous...clever play on the names and it is fitting to boot!
But really, it's all in the same mean spirit as Bryan's "manboobs" or Ari's mole. It's petty stuff.
And just like those who are referred to as Rapemis are upset about the name, so are those who are offended that a rapist and his victim are potentially paired. I understand that.

However, since EJ and Sami have never had a realtionship that wasn't fake, there really shouldn't be a name for them, should there? ;)
So, calling real people names is just as offensive as the behaviors of fictional people? Riiiight.
I said the same mean spirit.
Let me rephrase...it's in the same mean spirit as Lucas' manboobs and Nicole's mole. People pick out nasty features of a couple/character and use to it degrade and get their point across. Maybe it is just to vent. Rapemi isn't the first time or probably the last we will see of stuff like that...it is nice that it stays on fanbase pages though.

However, it's fucking name calling. I try not to be so sensitive.

LOL about "the rapist" and therapist. I have mistaken those two before too! LOL!
Eh, I wouldn't say I'm sensitive to it either. I do think it's tacky though, and I'm finding the hoops that are being jumped through to explain why it's not supposed to be an insult directed at the fans, or why people shouldn't take offense to be more amusing/bemusing than anything. I just think if you're going to sling that kind of stuff around, then call it what it is. Don't play semantic games and dance around it.

Lysie I forgot that Steve did it too. That annoyed me, but Steve annoyed me in general. I don't remember John doing it.

It's not humorous to me, either. While I know it is just a show, I don't find rape on television entertaining, nor do I find a bullshit redemption of the perpetrator and consummate romance between him and his victim humorous, entertaining, or romantic. In fact, I found/find it extremely offensive, hence the offensive nickname for the coupling.
That's fine.

Directing that anger at the fanbase by calling them the "rape me's"/rapemi's/whateverthefuck is extremely tacky to me though. I mean, seriously.
It's really no different that when Lumi's are called Lumitards or Loonielumis for wanting Lucas and Sami together..Rapemi is not directed at the fanbase more so the couple....the other two examples I gave above are strinkly about Lumi fans...and I find those offensive...but realistically who cares? In the end...I know I don't....anymore at least.
What started this was from a link from second chances where the person writing the post was referring to the FANS at an event as "rapemis" so in that case and if you look further down the page the people posting were referring to the FANS as "rapemis".

I think we've probably adequately covered the why it is offensive, but to each his own.

This just got me to thinking about Arrested Development and Dr. Tobias Funke calling himself the world's first Analyst & Therapist and shortening it to Analrapist (pronounced ah-NAL-rah-pist) on his cards! No wonder he went out of business.

LOL! I didn't know JS flicked off the Lumi fanbase and wrote "Lumi sucks". That was awful and hilarious at the same time! What an ass!
I do remember when Bryan said that Ejami fans ate their young...LMAO about that too. That just sounds like his sense of humor.

six - I agree. I doubt any decent person wants another person to be raped, but it seems that the title "rapemi" is pretty much kept to the Lumi boards or other boards, not in general fan discussion. So maybe it is a method of venting because their pairing was shit on when EJ came on the scene. I understand that too. It seems to be the nature of most fanbases...definitely not just the mean ole Lumis. ;)

I think I take most offense to those who take offense to it when they know they have have said worse about other pairings/fanbases. There is a word for that, but I can't think of it.

It's definitely not just one fanbase. Like I said, I'm not going to act like someone's being crazy not to want to be called lunis or eholes or pretend that that little "s" on the end doesn' mean it's not being directed at real people, or whatever. I definitely have seen a few who called for ejamis to be raped, which was without a doubt the worst thing I've seen written on a soap board but fortunately that was rare, and as you said, not written by a decent person.

The only thing that offends me is fanbase wars fighting over who should have the fair hand of goddamn Samantha (sorry lysie) mutha fuckin' Brady! I truly detest the character, she ruins everyone she is paired with and the actress is horrendous.
That may be the best thing that's been said in this entire thread....

I'm not jumping through any hoops or dancing around shit ... I'm telling the truth. I am sure there are some Lumi fans who refer to EJ and Sami fans as rapemis in a mean spirit, but I can only speak for myself. I use the term (at the Lumi board only) as a way to vent about the coupling that I detest more than any other in the history of all soap operas.

You're telling the truth about how you use it, but this discussion was never about you and how you use it, unless you're the lady in the first post who used "rapemis" five thousand times (that's the only one I read, so no idea if it was used any other times by you in that thread). You did pick up the cause to define the term for everyone, but it's pretty obvious that it was being directed toward the fanbase in that post (paraphrased- gems like " the rapemis said you're mean") That's where I feel it's dancing around the issue, because that was pretty clearly not about EJ or Sami. Those lumi fans you mentioned who use it as a mean-spirited comment on ejami fans? That's what this is about.

I think we've probably adequately covered the why it is offensive, but to each his own.
Actually, what started this whole conflagration was kitkat erroneously claiming that James Scott flipped off the SAFE fanbase!!! :drunk: I still don't know how that passed without anyone catching it, and now myself just catching up on the last 7 pages of this damn thread I think it's funny how she just posted that and disappeared and started this whole disaster of a "rapemi" debate. And funny how people are talking about the "rape-me" context of the nickname when kitkat is the one (and not any Lumi fan) who told us so recently here at DR that if we rooted for Ejami we wanted Sami to be chained up and raped on a nightly basis. Ugh.

Anyway, why that term of "rapemi" was brought into this thread, I have no idea, but I think it's unfortunate that it was. That term may be mostly confined to the SecondChances board now (and from what I understand the term Ejami is filtered at that site so the ONLY way to possibly refer to that pairing there is by calling it rapemi) but back in the awful Ejamucas/RINR wars of 2007 I think most EJami fans can tell you that term got thrown in our faces EVERYWHERE we posted. At the very least I had it flung at me on the NBC boards on multiple occasions and that's one of the reasons I mostly abandoned that board to post at other places. Now to Aimee's credit, I can't ever recall a time when she said it to me or that she has ever used the term here at DR, but as silly or childish as the Eholes or Snore or Lumitic nicknames might be for other pairings I can't imagine they are as hurtful, either in intent or in actuality, as the "rapemi" moniker. Others are free to disagree, of course.

But why any Lumi or Ejami fan would want to relive those awful days by keeping the Ejamucas feud going still, I have no idea.

Much prefers sweevil, snarky EJ over Father Figure Fucktard Eejiot.

Great post (as always), IMiss.

Wow. I checked this thread this morning and last I saw it was all about what GG did or didn't do with his twatting ( love that!) and how people felt about it. Interesting that it should have somehow become about what JS did or didn't do in Greenville and debating the intent of the Lumi's pet name for the EJamis.

Ultimately, who cares what happened last Summer or even why the Lumis (or any other fan base) choose the names they do? As I said several weeks ago when someone tried to stir things up about Greenville - it got just slightly more attention at the time than what it was due - none. Despite the attempts to create a witch hunt by the poster who attended the event it got very little attention from TPTB or anyone else. Pretty much like what GG did on NYE. In the end, this stuff means far less to TPTB, regardless of who it is, than it does to many fans.

Amen sista! At some point can't we all just agree to let it go, at least in places other than the specific fan boards? Or can we at least come up with some non-offensive shorthand so we don't take up valuable storage space and energy to re-fight the same battle that has gone nowhere in 3 years? If anybody feels the need to debate all those issues again, they could just throw in a "WAS!!" or a "WAS NOT!!" based on the particular view and those opposed can post the appropriate one or two word response and so forth. It would be just as meaningful and just as effective and just as ridiculous -- but shorter, much more civil, and far more efficient.

It's just a suggestion, of course. I would also suggest "Is" and "Is not" for the endless debates for EJami vs. Safe. ;)

Topic? Don't know, don't care. :)

A little late but putting in my two cents: I agree with what Galen said regarding Dick Clark. Suffering a stroke is a horrible debilitating experience and while I can appreciate that this little stint every New Years for Dick to do the countdown is something he strives for every year - I think those of us who admire Dick Clark (including Galen) and his remarkable accompllishments over the years respectfully think it is time for him to step down.

Those were courtesy of somebody hilarious at TWoP--I can't remember who now or I'd give credit!
*sigh*. Those were the days.....

This thread is highly entertaining in some parts and disturbing in others. I won't clarify. :drunk:
Going on the record as an oldshit dinosaur who REMEMBERS American Bandstand, Casey Kasem and the Top 40, and all that hoopla. And, I floved me some Dick Clark. But hey, whatever. Bless his soul for hanging in there. And that is that.
Those who are saying Dick Clark probably doesn't give a rat's ass are probably right.
Kenny, gotta love your saying it like it is!
