everybody has their hobbies--but some people do take it too personally.
That's more of what I'm meaning. I read comics and if you think soap fans can be bad, go to a comic book message board and read them argue. Do you want to know who's got some "outthere" fans who can be kinda scary? Wonder Woman! Seriously! I count myself as a WW fan, but I stay far FAR away of some of those "debates" on whether the costume is outdated, Steve Trevor should be revived as a love interest, the character is/isn't a sex object, Diana Prince should be dumped/kept. There's being a fan of something/someone and then there's being a whackjob.

I vote we simply refer to all of these fans as Whackjobs. I personally think it covers all the bases and is totally inclusive. I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out or slighted. :tounge:
We'd might as well just call all soap posters whackjobs. Seriously, I'm sure non soap fans think it's crazy as hell to A. watch these shows in the first place, and B. take the time to seek out a place to talk about it, collect spoilers, and analyze and debate the behavior of fictional people, and discuss whether their actions are in or out of character. :tounge:

It's not anymore crazy than fans of LOST creating their own wikipedia called "lostpedia" or something. And there are alot of boards where people talk about every detail on those prime time shows.
First, soaps are pretty much considered lowbrow guilty pleasures, by most tv watchers. Ever see a soap or soap actor portrayed in primetime? It's always completely over the top. When soap actors leave, they almost always say some variation on never planning to stay in soaps, and considering it a stepping stone on their way to the top. Second, the point is that crazy is relative, not that soap fans are doing something wrong (I'm here posting on this board, too aren't I? Plus, I'm pretty sure implying that any of you are crazy would be against the rules). Some people think being in a fanbase is crazy, while imo, if you don't have some level of interest in the characters (whether it's who they end up with, or wanting to see them happy, or even wanting to see them finally get their comeuppance) I'm not sure why you'd watch. Surely not for the writing. Some people think watching soaps at all is crazy. AFAIC, as long as you know the difference between fact and fiction, and can get along with someone who respectfully disagrees with you, knock yourself out.

Not to mention someone always brings up William Marston, his wife, and there girlfriend and goes looking for original intent.

I also think Dick Clark should keep doing the count down as long as he wants, and Galen Gering, or his evil twin -is a shitty bastard. :P

*shudder* You've run into them, too, haven't you? I lurk/post rather frequent in the DC portion of the CBR forums and that WW section... *double shudder* I thought the actual DC boards were bad. Multiply the Sony/Days board by a gazzillion.

Yep, I don't think gazzillion is a high enough number :shame: , the Sony/Days board is down right genteel by comparison.
Makes me miss the old days of Wizard Magazine when the big thing was who would win between Iron Man vs. the X-men fought out through snail mail. :drunk:

LOL. I haven't read comics since I was a kid myself and I never did like the X-Men, but just to clarify--Iron Man was suposed to take on all the X-Men by himself?

Not to mention basketball fans, who can argue for decades over whether Larry Bird's '80s Celtics could have beaten Michael Jordan's second Bulls team in a seven game series, or whether Hakeem Olajuwon should be third or fifth on the list of the best center ever, or whether Kobe is better than MJ and if not, what would it take for him to get there. All of that is hypothetical and there's no real answer, especially not with stuff like "would team X beat team Y?"

I don't think posting about soaps is sheer insanity--everybody has their hobbies--but some people do take it too personally.
My nephew and I were just talking about this. His wife thinks it's crazy that I watch soaps but she and her family love "trash" tv......that's what they call their reality shows they all love. And my nephew thinks it's crazy but he admits he's as goofy about sports as they are about reality shows. And we both agreed, that they are all soaps in essence. Sports, reality tv, and the soaps are all about the stories, the drama, the over the top escapism. At least soap fans are mostly honest about it....we know our stuff is over-the-top, but a lot of reality fans really believe it's reality. LOL They are just soaps with regular actors...just wannabee actors.

yeah, back in the early 90s some throw away comment in a Wizard magazine started the snail mail fan feud. It went on letters column after letters column, issue after issue.
It went something like this: "but Wolverine's claws could cut Iron Man's armor, and Professor-X and Marvel girl could take over his mind!"

then the other side: "No way Iron Man could just blast them all from the sky, besides his armor has protection from mind control"

"Magneto could just rip his armor off him!"

"Magneto's not one of the X-men."

"He used to be a New Mutant!"

"Magneto's not a X-Men!!!"

"What about Wolverine's claws there made out of Adamantium and can cut through anything!"

"Iron Man can fly, and Wolverine's a *#@%"

" Are we talking about Tony Stark Iron Man, or the War Machine armor?"

"Your a *#@%"

and so on...

LOL Kenny.

In all seriousness .... DEATH TO THE FANBASES! The people playing the roles dont even have the passion these people do over their characters. Why? Cause its just a JOB! They go home and fuck people that ARENT Alison Sweeney ....

And lets be real, I'm sure James Scott was more than justified in flipping off the people at the LUMI event that no doubt were treating him like garbage. And that person that Galen Gering told off on Twitter, what exactly did this person say to him in the first place? Just because these people are on TV doesnt give free licence for people to be dicks to them and then expect nothing in return.

I took a few minutes to look up what the poster tweeted to Galen before he replied in the way that he did. Here is what the person tweeted..........

http://twitter.com/Snapperpacheco

@galengering Getting old will certainly suck for you, seeing as you clearly place no value on age. Good luck to you, asshole. 2:26 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@galengering Oh, and you know what really isn't inspirational? Guys who act with their eyebrows. 2:27 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@galengering is way too busy worrying about parking tickets to think about nonsense like respecting and embracing that which is different 2:48 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@galengering Your capped teeth are repulsive and macabre..please don't flash them on tv, ok? 2:49 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

Then Galen tweeted to this tweeter............
@Snapperpacheco so you think there's never a time to move on? 2:53 PM Jan 1st from Echofon in reply to Snapperpacheco

@crystalchappell should be vigilant. At 44 she's may be nearing that @galengering considers too old to be on tv. Nice guy, that one. 2:53 PM Jan 1st from web

@galengering If someone CAN do a job, then he or she has every right to. 2:54 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

Then Galen replied.......
@Snapperpacheco Exactly my point 2:56 PM Jan 1st from Echofon in reply to Snapperpacheco

@galengering The Americans with Disabilities Act turns 20 this year. You might want to rethink how you've opened the new year. 2:54 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@galengering No. Your comments have nothing to do with ability, and everything to do with your sad discomfort with age and illness. 2:58 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@galengering It's about YOUR need to see shiny, perfect, plastic, young people on tv. 2:59 PM Jan 1st from web in reply to galengering

@Snapperpacheco U are clearly confused and should go back to bed 3:07 PM Jan 1st from Echofon in reply to Snapperpacheco

I don't see anything wrong with responding to disagree with Galen's opinion as others including OBK did in a respectful and mostly playful, lighthearted manner but the way this person did it was not appropriate, hateful. If people thought Galen was such a jerk for making a comment on hoping that DC would retire because it was hard to see him on TV doing the NYE countdown, then I can't believe how he showed such constraint with this person. I believe Galen certainly did have a right to respond to them as he did and I am surprised he didn't say much worse in light of what the person said about GG personally.

I saw the tweets on NY day but didn't think much of them. Only thought how unusual it was for him to be tweeting so much when he goes weeks or longer before he tweets once or twice. I wasn't offended by the remarks but can see that some people might have been. I certainly didn't see it as bashing or making fun of DC or of anyone who has disabilities as some have suggested.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even celebrities.

I shudder to think what Galen Gering would call our beloved Frances Reid (Alice), who kept working as long as she was able and why shoudln't she keep working as long as she wanted. The older cast led to the success of the show Galen now takes his paycheck home from. For that mater, Dick Clark contributed to the success of television as we know it. No one was forced to watch him on New year's eve. And what has GG done other than grunt and ride on the coattails of the acting of Alison Sweeney, who he sucks up to endlessly! And no I am not an Ejami fan.I was a Safe fan - until I saw what Galen wrote. I will no longer support someone like that.

Gah! Isnt he just? LOL.

I will never understand the Marvel and fan hardon for this limited range character. He works as part of an X-Team, but 3 X-Teams? Seriously??!! He's on the Breakworld at the same time the Marauders are destroying the mansion on earth?

Yes, this thread gives a second rate actor a much needed PR boost, but not a good enough one to make me forgive his bull shit comments or lack of remorse for speaking his mind... And an empty one at that.
I will never understand the US mentality. Plunge the world into war in the name of rights and freedom, and then get mad when your own people exercise those same rights and freedoms.

Who the hell cares about drunken tweets? As long as Galen didn't diss Days, his co-stars or trash fanbases for this show, who really cares? Why is this so important anyways? I thought he wasn't that big of a deal yet here some of you are all up in arms (LOL) about his drunk tweets that have nothing to do with Days at all.
EXACTLY!!!

Stop beating a dead horse already. It is over and done with. Let it go for heaven sakes.

I hate to keep this thread going, but I have to speak to this because it's bothering the hell out of me.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. One of the greatest strengths of the country that we live in. That means that anyone can say anything that pops into their head no matter how inane, ignorant, stupid or insulting.

I attended the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC a few years ago. One of the presenters that night was a respected newsman who I grew up watching. I won't mention his name, but for those old enough to remember, he used to end his newscast with "That's the way it is."

When he appeared on the stage, he wasn't the man that I remembered. He was frail, a bit doddering, and couldn't see the cue cards very well. They had to do quite a few retakes to get it right and he genuinely seemed to be struggling with his simple task.

It was sad to see and did make me uncomfortable to see this legend of news who had at one time commanded the screen stumbling about. And part of me wished I hadn't seen it. But people are allowed to grow old and get frail. That's a part of life. While I might have been uncomfortable, a man of his stature had a right to speak at a public event and in the end, I'm glad that I at least got to see him in person.

When I returned home from the event, I don't recall going around doing the equivalent of "tweeting" and telling everyone who would listen, "OMG, what a disgrace! That old man needs to stay off the stage! He has no business appearing in public." I probably could have made some jokes and gotten some good laughs. But the thought didn't cross my mind. Call me old fashioned or just old, but making fun of someone physically weaker than myself or ill doesn't turn me on.

A few posters have mentioned their surprise at how long this thread was – I was one of them. So I thought I would do a little stats review on the Daytime Royalty Days topic threads for 2009. The longest discussion threads on this board during 2009 are [drum roll please] in 3rd place:

3rd Place: 22 July Lindsay Hartley is hired – 21 pages

2nd Place: 27 April Safe make love AND Storyline for Maggie Death of a Horton 27 pages (joint 2nd)

1st Place: 4 Feb EJ and Nicole Valentine’s Day article 45 pages

If this thread makes it to 21 pages that makes GG and Rafe related discussions part of the hottest threads on this board linked to the Days show! and he's already leading the way for 2010. This board hasn’t seen this much excitement in 6-months!

I did not include the weekly show discussions threads or the Day of Days event thread because that covers all the cast.
Despite what everyone says this board loves discussing anything with GG in it and based on these stats.. go figure! You closet GG fans you!
