How contrived was it when Justin showed up right when Bo and Hope were hugging? It was stupid! That's all Justin did the whole episode! I found it unneccesary for Justin to be in the episode.
Actually, I'd like to see more of Justin. Bo is a creep. I'd love to see Hope move on with a man that isn't confused about who he has sex with and when.
YAY, me too, set BO FREE finally!!! :cheer:

I think I would like Mel's attitude towards Carly if it was being played as a bad chemistry mix. The show is making it seem like Carly did something huge to Mel and she's got a grudge and it makes no sense. Sometimes, people just don't like each other and there's no reason for it.
Carly did mention at the end today that she wasn't sure if it was instinctual on Melanie's part as to her hatred of her. I think that could be but also Melanie is the type of character who would be put off by the way Carly has been around her. Their first meeting had Carly spill Carly on her and then Carly almost moved in to Maggie's. She thinks the woman is some sort of wackjob and now she sees her making things worse for Maggie and her family so I can understand why Melanie is put off by Carly.

I do want to say I agree with your whole post about today's episode. Now, before I go off and criticize I want to note that I am taking all factors into account. I fully understand why the show took the approach it did having no funeral and having most of the MIA relatives elsewhere in the house. I like that we at least got mentions of Bill, Marie, Alice (I enjoyed the little bit of Bill checking Alice's blood pressure and Bo having to bring medication for her), and Sarah being in the den and later waiting in the car. If I can't see them, that is the next best thing. I realize they had issues to deal with. They would've had to recast Bill, Sarah and Tommy (more on that later). There is no guarantee you can get Jaime Lyn Bauer, Marie Cheathem, etc to return. It doesn't even bother me that we didn't get a huge memorial because it would've worked awful at the Church given all the absences and the character of Mickey is one the audience only knows through current characters for the most part so I understand why they went with no funeral and only gave us what they gave us. SR was right in that many may not know who he is or even care. I'm disappointed because the show should've just killed Mickey off when John Clarke left. It would've been better. I will take it and I've been very pleased with the death and fallout. I figured they would handle that well. I just knew the memorial would be difficult and I guess they handled it as best they could under the circumstances. We did get some nice scenes with the eulogies, good Melissa/Nathan and Melissa/Maggie stuff, and some good flashbacks, especially in the last scene which had me in tears (I haven't seen some of that since I took a look back at my grandmother's old tapes years ago). I knew there was no way they could do this up the way it should be done. I mean, you don't even have Alice. I guess they did the best they can do.

Now, here are my issues with the episode. Just to touch on Keith's points...they really dropped the ball with Melissa not having any scene with Hope. I also hated that we didn't even get flashbacks of Mickey and Melissa. The eulogies were nice but way too too short. I wouldn't have minded Hope's if it were longer but keeping it just about Ciara was dumb. Melissa's was fine but should've been longer. I liked Melanie's little speech and, like Hope's, I wouldn't have minded most of it being about Maggie (I ove their relationship and that was a moment where Molly Burnett was clearly talking about her love for Suzanne Rogers so it was very personal) had we heard some other stuff about Mickey from her like we did on Monday's episode. I am pissed that Tommy once again doesn't seem to be mentioned. I remember them screwing that up at Tom's funeral in 1994 too. I did like Doug's toast. He always does stuff like that and I do wish Doug and Julie would stick around beyond this.

I also would've liked to see some flashbacks beyond just Mickey and Maggie together. As I said, they made me cry but how about some flashbacks of past Christmas gatherings? The biggest WTF was that we didn't get ONE damn Alice/Mickey flashback. I know you don't have Alice but that is BS.

Actually, hold up, I take that back, the biggest WTF was WHERE THE HELL WERE LUCAS AND WILL?! You expect me to believe that they didn't come back to that house after the funeral?! Stupid. They played Lucas so wonderfully the past two days only to drop the ball now. The fact that Will never actually even had scenes at the Horton House this week beyond that scene with Mia yesterday at the end is laughable. I know Lucas is nearly out the door but Will is a character they clearly want for the future and not having him in scenes with his family at times like this kills his development. Hell, he barely is involved in anything in regards to Sami and co. and now we get no scenes of him around the Horton's? Now THAT is crap writing.

Alot of the complaints I have tie into the biggest issue I had with today's episode...WAS IT REALLY FUCKING NECESSARY TO HAVE ARIANNA GET FUCKING ATTACKED TODAY?! DID WE REALLY NEED THE EJ/STEFANO/RAFE/ANNA STUFF TODAY?! Sorry about the caps but I don't get pissed too often with this show but that just annoyed me. I take no issue with the Carly/Vivian/Victor stuff because it tied in with what was going on given Melanie and Mia went to the hospital to drop off flowers and we got comments from them about how nice it was to get out of Maggie's given how difficult things are (By the way, I like that we are finally getting Melanie/Mia scenes and enjoyed their scenes with Carly and Vivian. Their reactions to Vivian were priceless). I will say again that I get that Mickey is not a character many in the audience may have seen so the attachment may not be there like it was for when John or Shawn Sr died (hence the big funerals they got and the attention, of course it helps that they could bring back just about anyone they needed to for those). I just think the show messed up. I would keep EJ stopping by at the house in there because I liked the mention of EJ and Mickey working together briefly. That whole scene was nice and Hope saying they would pray for Sydney and EJ and Brady's tension was a nice way of acknowledging the ongoing story but it should've been left at that. The other stuff could've waited until tomorrow and more time could've been spent on flashbacks, eulogies, adding Will and Lucas to the episode, etc. I was so annoyed with that. While I did enjoy the Stefano/EJ/Rafe scenes and Anna coming up with a backup plan (that is SO Anna), it was not the day for all that and especially not the day for the Brady/Arianna stuff.

I LOVED the Bo and Hope scenes in the kitchen and the mention of the last funeral (Zack's) she didn't have Bo to lean on. Peter and Kristina rocked that scene. Just seeing Bo and Hope breakdown like that was powerful. Justin was useless today but still nice to have him around. I liked Hope putting her issues aside for the family too.

Vivian and Victor were great. I loved the brief trick the show pulled having Vivian announce Mia as Carly's and then having Carly reveal it to be Melanie. Nice touch with Melanie looking through the photo album. I liked seeing Brady, Hope, Doug, and Julie doing that earlier in the episode too.

Carly recalling the elevator stuff last Friday and then going to use the stairs was pretty hilarious too LOL.

Anyway, it was still an ok episode and, as I said, it wasn't the approach that bothered me. It was the details, which they had been excelling it all week, that they messed up. I was prepared for this. They fallout they handled well as I thought they would but the memorial was a mess in parts as expected. I just look forward to moving on to the rest of the fallout now because I know they will do right by that.

One last thing...kudos to the show for ending on Mickey's picture. Sometimes they won't do that but I'm glad they did and I found it to be major foreshadowing that in the last scene we kept seeing the open champagne bottle and glasses (I think one was empty and one still had some left in it) positioned right in front of Maggie. That last scene with the flashbacks and then Maggie crying in silence before kissing the picture and then leaving was powerful. Nice way to end it.
It warms my heart to see you complaining so visciously. And viscious is totally not the right word, but I'm too tired to figure out the right one.

Vigorously!

I was buying Danloe as a couple with their candid conversation about the Broe breakup, then they had to ruin it by getting horny.
I was thinking the exact same thing.

Did anyone else enjoy the fact that while Stephanzzz was featured three times, not one of them involved a line?

The 'wake' was disappointing with not properly utilizing Melissa (except to talk about Melanie), having random, pointless characters in attendance and then talking about how Alice, Bill and Sarah were 'ensconced' in the living room. The one flash back was wonderful but more would have been appreciated especially because when we reviewed the photo album it was with Melanie? Melissa definitely, but Melanie? gah.

The assassin was awful. I suggest Days no longer attempt these predictable story lines instigated by relatively normal characters turned BSC and completely inept hitmen.

Also, I think both actresses ad-libbed a bit today. Kristian started saying her line ("thank God you were here to comfort him") before Crystal was finished speaking, which prompted Crystal to raise her voice, and then the ad-lib came with Hope saying "keep your voice down, there are people in this house!" To which Carly replied, "YOU stop talking over me!" and Crystal kind of pointed in Kristian's face, LoL. It was awesome and realistic and it seemed very in-the-moment and ad-libbed to me. If that's the case, then kudos to both actresses, because it made for a great scene.
Quoting myself here.

Crystal was just asked on Twitter whether or not that scene was ad-libbed. This was her reply...

I think it's amazing that both actresses ad-libbed that so quickly. They didn't miss a beat!

I love that vid, Kenny! She has more UMPH and talent in that four minutes than other actresses on the show have showed in years.

Hope and Carly's fight from yesterday was great!

Hope: KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN! THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS HOUSE!
Carly: STOP! TALKING! OVER! ME!

LOL. Love it.
OK, line of the freakin' week right there!!!! So comments from Wednesday - written on the fly, so please excuse the lack of eloquence...

I LOVED that bitchy look Hope gave when Melanie told Carly off. Minor thing, but damn. The whole thing was beyond awesome. Everyone's either a bitch, whore, or douchebag LoL. I like that they're all flawed, but I have to laugh at Hope the most. Carly said it best with the whole "higher moral ground" thing. She acted like a total IDIOT today, embarrassing herself in front of her entire family. That aspect, I found, was quite realistic. There's always some showdown in front of everybody at a family event, lol. I loved Hope's condescending, sarcastic and overall nasty tone...so un-Hope! With that said, I'm team Hope...not Team Hope in the sense of "Bope," just in general. I'm really enjoying her right now.

Carly really shouldn't have been there either. She knows that Maggie is Hope's aunt. Stupid, all around, but I understand she wanted to see Maggie as a friend.

When Bo walked in, I was like "Ohhh shit!" Hope breaking down was sad, I felt for her in that moment because it was obviously Bo and Mickey related. A bit much for one person to take. I'm ready for her to go off the deep end and be a bad ass bitch!

Oh, Bo - continuing the relationship with Carly? Oy - but go Barly, anyway! And I kind of laughed at Hope when she said she waited too long and lost Bo. Well, no shit.

On another note, Mia - where the hell did that performance come from! I was almost crying! Great stuff from Spreitler!

Maggie in bed the end - aww. Poor thing. This is a great story, and tying in well with everything else on the canvas.

I've always loved Crystal ad-libs as they are always in-character and sharper than most of the dialogue. KA and CC definitely did not miss a beat.

Ok...the Ari killer was kampy. He was so over the top. Did they find the actor on the show 1000 ways to die? Because his acting skills were spot on with the folks who do reenactments for that show.

Yes I read this. Days have sunk to a new low. Obviously it will be just sex. Hope doesn't love Justin. I just hope we don't have another unwanted pregnancy. I wonder how Victor will react to this! Wonder what he will do to Justin now. I'm now wondering if a spumor posted months ago is true.
It said
Spoiler: click to toggle
Hope will feel awful when she finds out why Bo really took off his ring. Now we know why that spoiler for next week said
Spoiler: click to toggle
It looks like it happens on Wednesday so at least those who don't want to watch it will know when it happens. If I lived in the US I'd be watching it online. I wouldn't give them the ratings for it. Waste of time watching it. The writers haven't even built up Justin and Hope enough for them to get to this point. It's just pointless sex. Justin and Hope have not even shared a proper kiss. There has been no lead up to it. This whole story has been written very poorly. I feel nothing for these passionless boinking episodes with Bo and Carly and Justin and Hope. What ever happened to love and romance on this show? This could very well be a costly move by the writers. Both B&B and Y&R are becoming more family oriented and it's showing in the ratings they are getting. Days are holding steady for the moment and I believe that has had to do with Mickey's death. I think days needs to end these stupid triangles and go for the family oriented stuff. I loved when days was family oriented. Now I'm tired of the same old interloper/triangle/cheating/contrived breakup stuff. I would like to see some fresh and interesting storylines.

Thursday was a really good episode. I am so glad they didn't drag out the oft-used flashback of Maggie getting her red shoes again. I had never seen the "first meeting on the farm" flashback and the montage of M+M through the years at the end was nicely done too.

Plus, we had dual revelations: Vivian wrongly figuring out that the child is Mia and Carly actually revealing that it's Melanie. To the un-spoiled and non-message-boarders, that was a (ok, predictable) nice moment.

Mia actually showed some sparkle and life in her brief scenes with Melanie at the hospital. I think Molly Burnett brings out the life in everyone with whom she shares scenes. The character is a mess, but gee, she has chemistry with everyone.

The reason we didn't see Lucas and Will is pretty obvious. Both actors were being let go. I think this is the major reason we are seeing so little of Will. I imagine that the writers were advised that a casting change was happening and eased him out of the storyline as much as possible. Yes, it's illogical and frustrating to longtime viewers. Of course, it will turn out that he, his father, and his mother were all in the "den" with Alice/Bill/Marie/Sarah.

I did not like Melissa's jet black hair. That color looked awful on Nicole and just as bad on Melissa. And don't flame me too bad for this, but I think the reason her role was minimized was two-fold. 1. She hasn't been a working actress in some time and the "new" way they film is something that might be tough for a returnee. And 2. Methinks she is a tad larger than 20 years ago (aren't we all). She arrived in a big, frumpy coat. She was seated in a chair for the "memory moment". She was filmed mostly from the shoulders up, even sneaking up behind Maggie when Maggie was giving Nathan his Jail Expulsion Paperwork. And she was wrapped up in the mega-coat again when she was headed off at the end of the show (and was at least twice the size of rail-thin Stephanie). Someone made a decision to block her scenes the way they did. She may have requested it or the evil producers didn't want to showcase a more, um, robust Melissa (shame shame).

She supposedly has more scenes next Tuesday, so maybe we will get a nice scene or two with Maggie or Hope or Nathan (did he call her Mommy when she showed up?). It would be nice to keep her around as Hope's BFF, or at least to knock some sense into her cousin.

I love when SR wears her hair up. That flouncy hair-everywhere 1980s-soap-era red-mop can be so distracting in so many of her scenes. She looked regal and classy with the up-do. And heartbroken too.

kinda a little interested in the Justin@Hope thingy, reading from a former post that Hope leans on Justin which blossoms into a huge story for Hope come early spring ...hoping not a pregnancy fiasco but more like falling in love with Justin would be sorta interesting, hopefully their little romp will be more interesting than bo and that harlet...just want Hope to find happiness,Bo surely has found it and he doesn't regret it,he damn sure doesn't regret it,

This is such a good post all around.

Molly does have chemistry with everyone, that's why it's such a shame the actress and character are such a mess.

I was thinking the exact same thing about Melissa. I wondered when the last time she had an acting gig and if it was difficult to get into it. I too noticed she is a bigger woman, especially when Stephanie walked up behind her. I think they could have done a better job of wardrobe but if someone has gained weight, they should embrace it and custume the actor in a flattering way. She still looked good.

Much prefers sweevil, snarky EJ over Father Figure Fucktard Eejiot.

^^ I agree. Leann Hunley is not a stick thin woman, but I think they do a great job dressing her. Lisa Trussel is a bit larger than most of the actresses in those scenes - but in no way did she appear to be obese. So why cover her up with that gawd awful coat and put that fugly patterned skirt/dress on her?

I'm not a fan of the jet black hair, either. I thought she looked great as a blonde back in the day - but even if she prefers to be darker I think a lighter shade of brown or even auburn would be less stark and give her a softer look. It was great to see her, regardless. :)

Yes! Leann is always dressed elegantly and in a flattering way. I remember they did that to MBE with having her in the huge lab coats and oversized clothing all the time.
