Well, I thought today was just ok...kind of a blah day. It could have been just filler but then we had the reason Carlys doesnt have the town's sympathy's. Gotta say I so want Larry Alamain to come back. He's a great villain....a want some corporate intrigue damnit! I like the convo with Phil and Bo, but you know that whole stupid ass "taking the ring" SL is going to blow up in his face. And I really cant believe Viv fell for that line. Can she be smarter.....I'm getting tired of the whole talking to the audience and no action. Maybe cause I really dont care whom she kills...one, none, both...preferably BOTH! If you hated a person with the vigor that Mel does towards Carly, then why would you tell her your life's story and your dreams for your marriage? I know..PLOT..at least it was addressed. But how lame is her little speech about having kids? HELLO...what kind of life experience can you bring to a kid...this reminds me of that MTV show "Teen Mom?" I guess she can teach her/him to count cards? Wardrobe disaster=Kate. I was so distracted by this that I just didnt pay attention to their conversation. Boring DAYS! True, but every single person who casts, writes, produces, directs, and advertises the program is from LA. I'm not saying it's "right", just that this type of character is a a dime-a-dozen in not just LA, but in southern CA (heck even up in the hinterlands of northern CA where I am currently stranded.) Ever been to Forever 21 or H+M? It's MelanieLand. Edited by dooldooldool, Jan 20 2010, 02:49 AM.

I thought it was sweet that Melissa came home from Nashville for (perhaps) six whole hours. She arrived after the funeral (perhaps 11AM?) and is out the door on her way home before darkness sets (5PM?), although both Kate and Maggie did say that it was now "night" (although it appeared to be "dusk" at best). What a delightful way to remember and to honor the man who adopted her. Sad. |

Just started watching today's episode, and a few brief comments.. Where the fuck is Kate going - clubbing at noon?! Christ. Her makeup is nice, but it's way too much. Tone it down a little. And I let out a little giggle when Phillip noted he had "never seen Hope like that." You mean, never seen Hope was someone you'd be interested in Phil? :P And he doesn't want to see her hurt! Lol. I always love Bo and Philip scenes, too. These flashbacks with Carly and Lawrence are horrible. Lawrence is such a cartoon, lol. Also a reminder of how, in reality, far fetched this story is. I 'm having a hard time buying the timeline - why would she stay in a horrible marriage for 19 years? LOL. Oh, Viv! "Is this Salem? Is this the Kiriakis Mansion? Am I not Vivian Alamain? Of course I was listening!" Line of the day! Kate ... damn. She sunk to a new low with Maggie today. What a bitch, "imagine having to deal with something like this without something stronger than tea?" "All of your strays?" OMG. So obvious with the Melanie fishing, too. They should just make Kate a lead villain at this point. I don't understand why Kate is constantly a B character in a B story or back burned. Who would buy this dumb ass story that Carly would come back to Salem for Bo almost 2 decades later? Stupid, stupid, stupid. All over a secret that's not his? Vivian buying this shit is worse than the cover-up itself. I'm enjoying Suzanne but Maggie's barely acting like Mickey died. HORRIBLE writing for the Mickey death s/l. The Carly vs. Hope stuff took the spotlight, unfortunately. If Vivian is this big, bad criminal, why are cops/mayors (whatever Abe is these days) just talking about her casually? :eyeroll: And Bo the idiot is ok with his wife living in the same house as her?! Liking the Mel and Carly angst. LOL, "marital advice from the husband killer." Where did the full-time mom comments come from? WTF? Soo stupid. Stephanie/Nathan - SNOOZE. The only thing worse than these two is Danloe. Edited by cassie1013, Jan 20 2010, 03:38 AM.

Close, but not quite. Her comment to IvanWannaBe Gus about the "limp dishrag Myra" had me chuckling for minutes. With Viv dissing Mia and Kate dissing Melanie, I am convinced that both are regularly posting here. Edited by dooldooldool, Jan 20 2010, 03:33 AM.

I loved when she said "Whatever!" 'cause Kate did the same thing to Nicole a while back. I think Kate was saying something about "Will's little friend Mya..." and Nicole's like, "Mia?", Kate: "WhatEVER!" Chuckled for a few minutes on that one, too. Snarky lines are awesome. |

Interesting day, mainly because (yes, pigs do fly!) I was actually INTO the Melanie/Carly conversation. Molly Burnett did nice nuances from anger (although it's still overboard about the whole "murderer" thing, but that is a teen thing to do, just not maybe 19. Middle school and younger high school kids tend to have more of that drama). But, as she started getting rather wistful about family and her sordid past, that was a nice touch. The Melanie birthing scene was creepy. Dang, MS gave me shivers about dropping that baby. I was glad Philip asked Bo to be in the wedding in general. That's an awkward sentence. I'm not particularly glad he asked him at all, but I was afraid he was going to ask Bo to be best man. SUCH a slap in the face to the Lucas character. I wonder if these wedding scenes were shot before BD's last day. It would be the height of stupidity to not include Lucas in this event. Damn, Maggie, you go girl! Vivian, girlfriend, you're losing your touch. You're all over the place about Carly's motives. But you still deliver classic lines. Bless your heart for reading Days boards. :P |

Tuesday Flashbacks that happened yesterday are a NO NO but the one of Lawrence and Carly giving birth was good. I appreciated them making MS' hair darker and shorter to make him younger looking. I was all ready to be shocked in awed in a good way because people seemed offended. I just couldn't take it seriously enough to be offended. I think it's good when Days takes risks but like Cassie said it was too cartoonish. I don't remember Lawrence like this back in the day (damn, he was good looking), I see too much JT Cornell now which is not necessarily awful, I liked JT but it seems like a step backwards. I didn't know they were married IRL, talk about therapeutic role playing. Maxine is obnoxious. Stephanie is so sweet and thoughtful when it comes to Nathan, poor girl has it bad...I hope she gets the guy. SH showed her as vulnerable and a tad too eager. LOL at Kate's crazy getup. She was so phony in her conversation with Maggie. Mel/Carly scene when she came to get her coat was touching. I am a sucker for tears and bad childhood stories. Other than that, they are really laying it on thick having Mel act so obnoxiously. "Life would be simpler if Carly didn't come back" This is true but I don't think it would have fixed things. Sure I bet Hope would embrace Bo with Mickey's passing but that would again burry their "issues", only to resurface again when Hope felt marginalized by Bo. Sam09 makes a good point, while I do believe Hope loves Bo, I don't think she realizes how big of a wrong she committed against Bo by taking his child away without him knowing, telling him he was a bad father and being the gatekeeper of Ciarra. She crossed a line. I hope Bo really lays into her about this one. It's interesting because they have Sami doing that to EJ and Mia doing that to Chad, they've all dealt with it differently based on their ages and morality. I would have liked to see Chad really chew Mia out for this and of course Ej's doing the twist. LOL about the preview, Sami has that look again, "did someone say 'BALL'!!" I'm a sucker for bad childhood stories too, but I have a hard time when the new backstory doesn't fit the one I actually saw onscreen. Before Melanie ever appeared, there were scenes of Trent talking to her on the phone about how she was spending all of his money and doing the irritated but indulgent parent thing. Then there was her "Premier Party Girl" video blog where she talked about partying all over France. Then there was the scamming of rich guys for money and stealing from her classmates. Then, suddenly, there was Trent's request that she go out with some scummy guy as a favor to him. Nothing about that scene came across like this was a regular activity for Melanie. She was scared and shocked when the scummy guy apparently wasn't satisfied with dinner and a drink. She certainly didn't act like being pimped about by Trent was something she'd been dealing with for years. I'm not saying Trent was a good father, but it irritates me that all of Melanie's sins are forgiven because of a "bad childhood" that is completely inconsistent with anything that was shown onscreen when the character was first introduced. /rant |

The thing about characters is that back stores change and we most often do not see everything onscreen. We never saw Billie or Austin being abused onscreen either but the backstory says it happened. Even in real life, counselors/teachers don't see what happened in real time, but we hear. Most often it takes a long time to get the truth out, especially when it is teen girls that were used sexually at the hands of a parent. There is a lot of shame involved on the part of the victim, and many of them cover it up and protect their abuser. So I can't agree that because Mel did not show it. Mel's party girl 'tude, stealing and general brat behavior can be associated with abuse. Doesn't mean that all selfish, brat behavior means abuse but sometimes it truly is a cover. |

i get it, too. we've also been given the reason bo doesn't trust hope with carly's secret. a few months ago, he tested the waters by telling hope that carly was back in town when it was still a secret. almost immediately afterward, victor(without much prying, mind you) was able to get hope to admit that carly had indeed returned to town. so it's pretty obvious why he can't trust hope with carly's secret. i have no doubt that vivian would find out about melanie within a day or two of hope knowing about it.
i'm not really sure that the show intended for melanie to be an abuse victim right off the bat. she was just too damn gleeful about cheating innocent people out of their money. and as was mentioned above, she was shocked and angry when her father arranged for her date with the guy he owed money to. later, when she accused him of trying to trade her for sex, he swore up and down that he had no idea the guy wanted anything more than dinner and drinks. that doesn't sound like the behavior of a guy that has been pimping his daughter out for years. so i also have a hard time buying that this was a regular occurrence when onscreen, it was written and played like that was the first time trent ever tried to trade his daughter for sex. The guy who played Trent said he'd originally gotten scripts where Melanie was going to beg him to get treatment for his gambling problem, then he was suddenly given updated scripts with the story that played out on screen. For some reason they decided to quickly wrap up the story with a murder mystery and move on. I thought it was a little strange that Melanie suddenly opened up to someone she dislikes and doesn't trust about her past. I was also surprised that Carly didn't already know, since Bo knew at least part of Melanie's background, and it'd seem like Carly would've looked to him for info on her. Maybe he figured it wasn't his place, though. |

yeah, i kind of got the feeling that bo was purposely keeping quiet about melanie's background to avoid hurting carly. i mean, i can't imagine a scene where he tells carly all about melanie's past and what happened with trent and nick. |

Yea, I'm thinking Carly would've been a little better off and equipped to understand Melanie a bit better if she knew she wasn't just an unpleasant person by nature. Not that abuse excuses treating people badly, but it's kind of sad that Carly has gotten attacked by Melanie so many times, while still believing/hoping that she had a healthy, stable family and childhood. Of course it would've been hard for her to hear what happened, regardless, but it's too bad she couldn't have found out in a different way. |

That's not how the show aired. Bo never told Hope Carly was in town. He hid that from her. Even when she asked him point blank who was staying there he just said "an old friend". She found out because she went upstairs to their bedroom to see Bo and found Carly in her bed. Ring any bells yet? She also never admitted to Victor that Carly was in town. He figured it out because she was upset after returning from finding Carly in her bed. Victor suspected Carly would show up in Salem the moment he learned of Lawrence's death and he even warned Bo about getting involved with her before she ever showed up. If Bo wants to blame anyone, he should blame himself because it's his track record with his exes that make everything he does so damn predictable. The ridiculous thing is, Bo isn't fooling anyone even though he thinks he needs to go to all of these crazy lengths to "protect Carly's secret". Vivian practically knows as much as Carly does about her silly secrets in spite of Bo. And If Bo wasn't incompetent enough, Carly is more than helping Vivian along by practically drawing her a map to Melanie. But why hold Bo accountable for any of the stupid things he does when you can just make stuff up and blame Hope? |

yes, bo attempted to hide it from hope, but when she confronted him about it, he told her the truth. remember that hope didn't recognize carly when she caught her in bo's bed. it's not as if she saw carly in bo's bed and trotted off to victor to tell the truth. she talked to bo, he asked her to keep it a secret, she agreed to give carly and bo 24 hours, then went ahead told victor anyway. as for the victor thing, he was pressing hope as to what was wrong with her. he somehow brought carly up since he and bo had been talking about her a few days before. i forget the exact remark hope made, but she basically admitted to victor that carly was in town. victor found out because of hope, even though bo explicitly asked her to keep it a secret. ergo, she is not trsutworthy, at least when it comes to keeping carly's secrets. just FYI, it is possible to disagree with someone without accusing them of making things up. i'll be more than happy to find the exact dialogue between victor and hope that proves that she was responsible for victor finding out about carly being in town. ETA: here are the pertinent bits from the victor/hope conversation: Victor: I'm just saying if you think that Carly ever held a candle to you... Hope: I heard that-- well, I read that Lawrence Alamain was killed. Victor: Wait a minute. Is that what this is all about? Are you afraid the widow Alamain is gonna wend her way back to Salem? Hope, that's not gonna happen. Trust me. Hope: If you say so, it must be true.(said very sarcastically, i might add) then later: Victor: Yeah, well, I finally saw the light. Bo never did see her for what she really was. Even after she dumped him and ran off with that jerk Alamain. But what do I know? Bo and I never talked about her, so maybe he finally opened his eyes. Hope: Yeah. Or not. victor isn't stupid. hope knows this. with all her little sarcastic remarks, she may has well have been carrying a flag that said 'hey everyone, carly manning is back in town!' for all of victor's supposed suspicions about carly, the conversation with hope is what made him sure carly had returned. carly was arrested later on in that episode, thanks to victor. and hope. Exactly. I know that backstories are often changed to one degree or another, but it's usually not so blatantly inconsistent with what we actually saw onscreen. The problem isn't that Melanie's gleeful scamming of guys and party girl persona are inconsistent with an abusive childhood. The problem is that Melanie's new backstory or a lifetime of being used and pimped out by daddy is completely 100% inconsistent with the way the whole thing played out with the scummy guy in France. And when the retconned backstory is supposed to be the reason why I, as a viewer, forgive Melanie for any and all bad things that she does to anybody and everybody, then the backstory better well make sense and actually make me sympathetic to her. When it doesn't make sense, is inconsistent with what actually happened, AND results in characters I do like being thrown under the bus, it causes me to be very, very irritated and very, very unsympathetic. |

FYI, you just changed your story to "she was responsible for Victor finding out" now that you couldn't prove that "Victor was able to get Hope to admit Carly was indeed back in town". Apples and Oranges is all I'm saying. |
