Agreed. The writing was better but it's not THAT much better. No doubt the acting was but I think the audience has changed and that change has been manifesting itself more and more since the early 2000's. I think a story like that could no way play out now without having a heavy amount of people complaining about it. JMO. |

LOL, that is a good point...but DAYS will never go there! They'd go with Stephanie and Justin first - incest, but hey, they aren't blood! And Halloween Family, where the hay did you get "sowing her wild outs from"? LOL, had to google that shit! |

IDK, from 70-80's shows I guess. It was always if a woman was divorced, she was "hot to trot". If a man had a midlife crisis or was a teenager screwing everything that moved, he was "sowing his wild oats". If I'm remembering right, it was as common as quicksand, chloroform and thick rugs of chest hair. The more I think about it, they should go for it. Hope can have her Desperate Housewives moment. Bo already knows Justin's been sniffin around, he would be shocked and probablly blow a fuse. Plus, I think Chad is an 18 yr old senior and Casey really does look too old for Gabby. Beautiful picture of CC. I agree, I think she is not only gorgeous but interesting to look at, she's almost alien-like. I just wish she would stop botoxing her forehead or whatever the kids are doing nowadays. I bet wrinkles on her forehead would look good, she'd look Klingon. |

I'll hop on board for a Hope "Desperate Housewives" moment, lol. And I definitely agree Chad looks too old for Gabby - like I said before, he looks like a 21 year old hitting on a 16 year old. It's OK in shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 where the rest of the "teens" are 21, too - but there's a glaring age difference here. Maybe he can hook up with Hope after his high school graduation? Though, it might make her look a little predatory, LOL. I'll hold out for Philip first...hahaha. |

It's called continuing drama but these days fans are so used to (and wants) these mini-stories that usually last for 3-4 months and then end with no real pay-off and aftermath. |

Well like I said in another thread, it's subjective if a story is good or bad. Back then there were probably people that didn't like the story just as there are people today that like this story that everyone here calls bad like it's a fact. |

Yes it' supposed to be continuing on and on but because of writers like Dena Higley, Hogan Sheffer and Bob Guza viewers have gotten so used to short storylines with no aftermath, and when one 3 months story ends another one starts right away with no real aftermath to the previous one. |

You've got a point here. That's why the TV mini-series isn't much of a hit anymore. In many things, people want insta-results. Why do you think they get so impatient being put on hold on the phone? :P Seriously. Take a look at a show's typical TV season. Re-runs never appeared for a show until May in the old days. Now, we're lucky if a show can make it to December without the re-runs starting, or new shows taking their places for a while. There is no such thing as anticipation. We have timers on our coffee makers so we can set it the night before and not have to wait 5 minutes for coffee to brew. We hate going 55 and under on the highways. We can't STAND to not have our cell phones on just in case we might miss a text. We hate standing in line to check out. But honestly, the issue of the writing is a good point, too. The writing is too repetitive, and the acting (except for Anna) is just blah in this storyline. There aren't any little intriguing tiny twists or sideline stories. If I recall, with Bill and Laura, life went on. They were involved with other stories WHILE this one continued. Let Rafe get involved with his sisters' life for a little bit. Let Sami get involved with Will's, or help Maggie out as a friend, or visit her dad. Good grief, she's in such a little cocoon, I can't even think of who she can bond with. She's had very little interaction with anyone except Rafe and EJ and the occasional Stefano and Will and Brady (who should probably be Eric). She needs to get her bitch on with Kate in some fashion. She doesn't have her mom. She doesn't have her sister. She doesn't have her twin brother, for Pete's sake. Even EJ gets a break and hangs with Anna from time to time. He was there for Maggie (sort of). Edited by ladyofthelake, Jan 22 2010, 06:57 AM.

But there are side stories. I know people here knew it for about two months, but itīs only two weeks EJ was revealed as Anna accomplice! And week after weīve got the bothched ransom. Now they are building Sydneyīs sickness, another sidestory. I donīt understand how anyone can say there is nothing new in the story. Rafe and Sami were happy and together on christmas, now he is about to move out and itīs only 3 weeks later. Thatīs the same amount of time it took JER to drag one stupid conversation between Shawn and Belle before her wedding with Phillip and she STILL married the wrong guy so it was completely pointless. And the kidnapping isnīt even an "A" story now. The main focus is clearly on the Carly/Hope/Bo/Vivian/Mel story. Yes, Sami is isolated and we all know why. But EJ has a lot to do. Rafe just had a scene with Ari after the robbery, he had a nice moment with Gabby and he will soon get involved into drug story as well. |

I don't mind continuing drama, but the fact that the focus is still on BABIES is so boring. If we EJ/Sami/Rafe doing something else besides still crying and fawning over Sydney, I wouldn't mind it as much. |

Well, like I mentioned, the characters left in the SL are not compelling. TPTB dont write for them and give them dialog other then plot. Sami has tons of people she can sit with and visit. She can go and pay her condolences to Maggie and we can have her talk about trusting EJ over Rafe-cause that really makes no sense. We can have her at the pub having a heart to heart with Caroline. Stephanie can also be the one to tell her that her trusting EJ will cause troubles for SAFE. Someone mentioned Rafe going to his sisters...but its never more then about the plot. They talked about leads in the sydnapping. They can talk about there love lives more. EJ-well, his dialog is getting better because TPTB have to explain to the audience why he's doing this and he's been left as the one's whose perspective we see, but its so hollow. I'm glad for two things- we get this Sydney side story because this baby is more compelling than SAFE and AZ will be back soon to tape! Then we'll get back to the continuing drama! Most people have been begging for people to take relationships slower, instead of going engagement ring shopping on the second date like they do now, so there has to be a medium, in there. On Mike's paternity, the impression I got from your posts is that it wasn't at the forefront all the time. Was Laura constantly talking to herself about how no one could ever know the truth, while Mickey overheard bits and pieces, but failed to put basic clues together? Like Nicole did with EJ - and that stupid is/isn't she getting caught today happened weekly. Did Mickey, Bill and Laura do almost nothing for months on end, unless it was directly tied to Mike's paternity, the way EJ, Sami and Rafe have been solely focusing on the baby lies, and the aftermath for all this time? If not, it really doesn't compare. If the characters had been given a chance to do something besides digest one twist, before the next twist came their way, I don't think people would be complaining. I'm glad they had the Julie/Hope convo yesterday. It's scenes like that that have been missing. It was a bit much for Julie to be wearing that huge fur, while sitting across from Hope in her sleeveless top. Who wears something like that to a pub in the first place, and keeps it on the whole time? Nathan and Melanie need a friend or a mom, or someone to talk to, too, because I'd like to know what's driving them. They both appeared to want other people when they started dating, but now that they have the people they wanted, they're so in love with each other again? I wish nel had dated long enough for me to buy that. EJ/Syd were cute, and that's about the most comfortable I've seen the babies be with JS. I'm guessing EJ must have someone at the FBI to know beforehand that Rafe was having Sami followed and would be showing up at the ransom drop off. |

I think it's funny that people thought Stephanie's sweater was so retro in a bad way when I thought Melanie's sweater looked like something Cheryl Tiegs would have worn on the cover of the Sears catalog. (You see, kids, Sears used to send a catalog through the mail; this was before the Internet . . . ). |

Now you're going to have to explain to the kids who Cheryl Tiegs is. :tounge: Everyone and their mom has a sweater like Melanie's now. They've come back in a really big way (apparently - I missed the trend first time around). |

I really liked Mel's sweater and you're right about the style and the colors (jewel tones) are very big now...maybe Steph's sweater is ahead of the trend? (I dont think so!) |

I just think they were both retro and the color palette of Stephanie's sweater was more flattering to her coloring than Melanie's sweater was to hers--Stephanie's scarf was more troubling to me than the sweater. I didn't hate either sweater, but they definitely were looks I've seen in the past. One of the guys I work with has a sweater that is straight out of Dr. Huxtable's closet and Stephanie's sweater caused me nowhere near the pain his does when he wears it, lol. This post was brought to you by the word "sweater." Edited by Paxton, Jan 22 2010, 11:18 AM.

Does anyone have a picture of the atrocity Steph was wearing? It's hard for me to pay attention to her scenes, and I don't remember it. |

I am enjoying this Bope story but it could use an out there twist. Hope is going through a life altering moment, now is the time to do something OOC for her without having to rely on a brain chip. Although, that would be good too, if her brain chip suddenly triggered on and she wreaked some havoc. I'm cool with Hope bangin Chad, if she fell "in love" and waited for him to graduate that would be creepy, lol. And considering what I just proposed, Hope messin around with Phillip crosses a line for me lol since he's Bo's brother, plus that would kill Bope altogether. Also, I just remembered, "sowing wild oats", IIRC was said a lot on Growing Pains. |

I always assume when a poster describes something as bad or good that it isn't fact, it is an opinion that doesn't have to be qualified as such. |
