Scoop: CW renews 'Supernatural,' 'Gossip Girl,' '90210,' 'Vampire,' and 'Top Model' by Michael Ausiello This just in: As my handy Bubble Show Scorecard correctly predicted, The CW has extended early full-season renewals to Supernatural, Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, and America’s Next Top Model. There’s no word on the fate of CW bubble shows Smallville, One Tree Hill, Life Unexpected, and Melrose Place. Of the four, Smallville and One Tree Hill stand the best chance of returning, although I’m told there are big budgetary issues that need to be resolved first. Last month, CW president Dawn Ostroff told me she was feeling optimistic about Smallville’s renewal chances. “I’m really pleased with the show,” she said. “Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job. And the ratings are [strong] on Friday night. I have to commend [the producers]… It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh. And you know what I think? The fans have really liked the show this season. I don’t know which way we’ll go, but if you would’ve asked me [earlier whether it would end this season] I would’ve said, ‘Oh, probably.’ But I can’t say that now.” source: CW.com |

Hell yes to the Vampire Diaries pick up. My favorite new show of the season, even over Glee. It's that damn good. |

90210 does well by CW standards, no reason they'd cancel it, although I highly suggest they never have this long of a break. I've honestly forgotten about it and any momentum it had is lost. So stupid. Same goes for Melrose Place. Just as it gets decent, it goes on months long hiatus. I'd love Melrose to get another shot next season but because they have so many shows in development, I can't see them keeping both it and Life Unexpected. That would leave them with Thursday or Friday @ 9 and Wednesday @ 9 to fill. Possible, but doubtful. |

Vampire Diaries = Highest Rated Melrose Place = Lowest Rated Out of the 101 shows airing this season on Network TV, 'Melrose Place' ranked 100/101 only ahead of 'The Beautiful Life' which was canceled after only a few episodes. |

I have given up on Melrose. I hope they have crafted a good ending for Amanda and co. I am pulling for Life Unexpected. |

Doesn't look good for LUX :( With this early pick up, the CW will only need 5 more hours for next seasons schedule and I am sure they will keep Smallville and OTH and add 2-3 new shows. |

I wish they'd just cancel MP instead of leaving us hanging. It would of been nice if they tried airing it another night. |

Kristin from E! Online..... Hooray for lovers of Ian Somerhalder's smoldering eyes! The Vampire Diaries has just received an official early pickup from our friends at the CW, along with another season order for Gossip Girl, Supernatural, America's Next Top Model and 90210. But wait a minute, what about fan favorites One Tree Hill and Smallville, not to mention newcomers Life Unexpected and Melrose? Are they getting canceled? According to well-placed sources, here's where things stand: Smallville: I'm told it's very likely that Smallville will return for another season, given that it is pulling in solid ratings (by CW standards)—an average of about 2.5 million on Friday nights. So why no Smallville pickup today? According to insiders, it's possible they are still finalizing deals with the actors and also want to announce Smallville's pickup separately, while also setting an end date, as it may be the final season. Melrose Place: The CW is waiting to see how it does in the ratings when Melrose returns March 9, my moles tell me. However, the prospects at this time are pretty grim. So far this season, M.P. has been pulling in about 1.7 million viewers for original episodes and 700,000 for repeats. Reruns of Vampire Diaries have been doing better than new episodes of Melrose Place. One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected: According to insiders, it's highly likely that only one of these series will survive. Given that Life just started, the CW suits are giving it a bit more time before making the call. OTH has been averaging 2.5 million viewers on Monday nights (the same as Smallville, but Smallville faces less pressure on Fridays). Life Unexpected has been holding on to OTH's audience fairly well—thanks in part to ever-dropping rival Heroes, which just wrapped its season early. (Thanks, heroic pals. Save the foster child, save the world!) Fans already have launched a petition to save One Tree Hill right here. We just caught up with OTH's Shantel VanSanten (Quinn) at the Jill Stuart fashion show in NYC, and she said she's not giving up hope anytime soon. "I know that a lot of us have been signed on for one more year," Shantel told us. "And I feel like there's a lot that's due to our stories. I don't feel like we're ready to end. I feel like there's so much unfinished business, and I'm really, really hoping that we'll get another year." As for 90210, we ran into AnnaLynne McCord at the Max Azria show at Fashion Week today, and she says, "I just got the email. I'm so excited. They had talked about it but it's nice to know that I have a guaranteed job for another year." Will this pickup mean anything different for AnnaLynne's summer plans? "No, I was working all throughout the summer as it was. I have about four projects that are in negotiation right now." |

GET A LIFE! One Tree Hill isn't going anywhere. If The CW doesn't renew it then Soapnet has the option to pick the series up, which I am ok with it. At least soapnet will treat OTH with the respect it deserves, it is the best show on The CW next to 90210, Vampire Diares and Life unexpected. Story wise, there is no way in hell they can wipe the show up because too much stuff is happening at the moment... - Clay and Quinn - Haley's mom is dying from Cancer - Brooke, Julian and Alex - Clay and look-alike "sara" - Quinn's gallery AND THE TOWN IS CALLED TREE HILL... Oh jeez. LOL! Skipping over the whole ridiculous newbie yelling at regular poster bit ..... So, OTH is the best show on the network, besides all the other shows on the network? ROFL. You listed half their lineup given how many times each is repeated in a week. And these stories you mention? Sorry, "stories". GMAB, obviously no one is caring about Clay or Quinn ... "hey ratings, where'd ya go?" oh thats right, you're still in the college years, dang.", so they could leave town tomorrow. And once they do that, who cares about lookalikes and galleries. Haley's mom one day goes "hey yallz, i'm in remission. w00t!" and Brooke can say goodbye to all of these Lucas posers. Series finale in the bag. and I believe the expression is "DUH", not "DER" ................ Edited by Drew, Feb 16 2010, 05:21 PM.
