That will probably be the ratings next season after Simon leaves. With Paula gone it still averages 20-25 million. Not horrible by any means, LoL!

I don't really think you can compare these Olympics and the last ones. Just for the fact that this year's Olympics are in your time zone. So you basically can watch all of it LIVE. While last time, you had to watch live out of primetime. So whatever did air in primetime wasn't live. So I think that's a HUGE difference.

It doesn't help that many already knew who the top 24 was LOL. I also don't know why Idol moved to 9:00 this early in the season. Usually, they don't until the performance shows (which last like 2 hours) and then you get the results shows for the top 12. Since the time shift, the show has seen a drop in numbers on Wednesday's while they've been right on par or a little up on Tuesdays. They may want to do something about that.

Plus, the Olympics had all the major US athletes going Wednesday. Pretty much every big star that the Olympics are banking on was in action Wednesday. Lindsey Vonn, Apolo Ohno, Shawnie Davis, Shaun White...and word was out all day how the US won six medals so if there was a night when Idol would get beat, this was it.

I think they will rebound big time next week. I don't think this is a dropoff tied into the show, especially since the Tuesday numbers have been fine. I think the Olympics just had alot going for it and Idol going to 9:00 so early in the season has hurt along with the top 24 being pretty much known. Next week, we get performance shows and the show will be two hours both days so the 9:00 shift won't hurt. The only thing that could hurt Idol is if the Olympics line up another huge athlete roster for one night against them like they did Wednesday. I doubt that will happen so this is probably just a one night deal.

Most of NBC stuff isn't live though. Much of it had already played out earlier in the day. Most Canadians on other boards have to put spoilers up because we get it all live on CTV/TSN/Sportsnet.

You're right Manny and Tim, but the streak is over and that's what matters :D

Idol can no longer claim a consecutive #1 position

True but they lost the the Olympics, something that only happens every 4 years (and I sincerely doubt it would've beat it if not for all the hyped US athletes going into action all at once). I think it's more noteworthy if a show that airs regularly or that isn't an international event/sporting event beats it. Then it's a big deal.

This one will be looked at with an asterisk by many. Nothing more IMO.

I really want this to be the last Idol. I do not want to have an image of Idol without Simon. It's weird enough already w/ Ellen.

Really? For me, it's not weird at all. I guess judges aren't that important to me. I don't miss Paula at all. It's like she was never there. I think I wouldn't miss Simon either.

The judges are very important during the audition and Hollywood rounds. They become less important after the Top 12 is revealed, IMO. That's when the focus shifts onto the contestants themselves.

Same here, I could care less about the judges. It's not about them.

I think the show is making out better with Ellen then Paula anyway. Ellen actually judges and offers a fresh perspective and adds some comedy. Plus, she doesn't take up half the show speaking. We don't get no more BS that wastes time. Simon and Paula's antics were getting old and too much focus was on the judges the past few years and not the contestants. That is not what the show is about.

Kenny does have a point. The judges are vital early on but that is why I think Idol will be just fine without Simon and Paula. Paula didn't offer much as a judge. Hell, the woman doesn't even sing her own songs. She lip synches! And Simon, while still knowledgeable, has become so biased and looks like he's only there to rile people up and manipulate voters into voting so he can be proven right rather then actually judging.

The show can do just fine with Randy, Kara, Ellen, and another judge who knows music in place of Simon. In fact, it will likely take the show back to the way it was in the first 5 seasons before things became less about the contestants. You know...when the ratings were even higher for Idol.

I don't think Fox is worried too much about losing to the Winter Olympics. It would be like Desperate Housewives losing against The Superbowl.
