Exclusive: 'SNL' close to landing Betty White! When a grassroots campaign involves both Facebook and a beloved Golden Girl, the scope of its influence cannot be underestimated. To wit: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Saturday Night Live is thisclose to signing TV legend Betty White to host the show for the very first time. But there’s a catch — and a pretty cool one at that. White would not be hosting alone. Rather, I hear SNL is putting together a “Women of Comedy” episode that would team the former Rose Nylund with several of her younger contemporaries. Ex-SNL MVP Molly Shannon is on board, I hear, and feelers have also been put out to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. (An NBC spokesperson insists no one has been confirmed at this time.) This tag-team approach will allow Lorne Michaels to appease White-on-SNL zealots (half a million and counting!) without making the 88-year-old shoulder the burden of all 90 minutes on her own. And hey, anything that gives Fey an opportunity to dust off her Sarah Palin impersonation — as she’s rumored to be considering — is okay with me. Source: Ausiello Files |

Um...does he not think the LEGENDARY Betty White can hold the show on her own? And Tina Fey has already been announced to host in April. |

I don't like the idea of making Betty White host with a bunch of former SNL cast members like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. That seems like kind of a cheat. I would rather see her host with Jane Lynch and Rue McClanahan. That would be fun. Throw Amy Sedaris into the mix and you've got a great comedy foursome. |

Betty White needs to happen. She doesn't need the back-up, though I don't mind seeing them back. Kenny, didn't Rue McClannahan have a stroke recently? |

I would hope this was a request on Betty White's part rather than SNL slighting her this way. I like all the other women mentioned, but I haven't seen anything from Betty that seems to hint to me she couldn't handle a full show when plenty of non-actors get through it and it's not like the host ever appears in every single sketch. If Amy Poehler came back I think she'd play a hilar Sofia impersonation for a Golden Girls spoof. |

I am excited for this, but I don't like the catch. |
