Tom Cavanagh 'Floats', Jean Smart is 'Hawaii' governor Several well-known actors -- including Tom Cavanagh, Jean Smart, Rob Morrow and Kathy Bates -- headline the latest flurry of pilot casting activity. Scott Foley, Michael Cassidy, "Almost Famous" star Patrick Fugit, Kyle Bornheimer, Aly Michalka, Gail O'Grady and Nicholas Bishop have all landed roles as well. The rundown: - Cavanagh, who last starred in TNT's short-lived "Trust Me," will play the title role in ABC's drama "Edgar Floats," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot, which will also star Alicia Witt and Robert Patrick, is about a psychologist by training who works as a bounty hunter. Cavanagh's other TV credits include "Ed," "Scrubs" and "Love Monkey." - Smart, an Emmy winner for "Frasier" and "Samantha Who?" and two-time nominee for "24," will play the governor of Hawaii in CBS' "Hawaii Five-O" remake. She'll be billed as a guest star in the pilot, the HR says. Like its predecessor, the new show's fictional police unit will report directly to the governor. - Morrow has booked a lead role in ABC's legal drama "The Whole Truth," The Hollywood Reporter says, where he'll play a defense attorney who frequently opposes Joely Richardson's prosecutor in court. The casting is in the No. 2 spot to his current show, "Numb3rs" on CBS. Given that Morrow's "Numb3rs" co-star David Krumholtz has also taken a pilot this season, though, the show's chances at renewal aren't looking so hot. - At NBC, Bates -- currently guesting on "The Office" -- is in negotiations to star in "Kindreds," the latest legal drama from David E. Kelley. The HR notes that her character, a veteran lawyer who works on cases with a group of young associates, was originally conceived as a man. The part would be her first regular role on a TV series. - Foley, most recently seen on "Cougar Town," has joined the cast of ABC's cop show "True Blue," the HR says. He'll play an assistant district attorney working to solve an officer's murder. - Cassidy ("Privileged," "The O.C.") will star with Katharine McPhee in NBC's comedy "The Pink House," about two guys who move to L.A. and rent a beach house. Cassidy was reportedly among the finalists to star in "Captain America: The First Avenger," but he recently tweeted that he was out of the running. - Fugit, who's coming off "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant," and Melissa Rauch ("The Big Bang Theory") will star opposite Debra Messing in ABC's comedy "Wright vs. Wrong." Fugit will play a writer who contributes material for Messing's conservative pundit, and Rauch will play her assistant. - Bornheimer ("Worst Week") will star in CBS' "Livin' on a Prayer" -- from the team behind "How I Met Your Mother" -- as one half of a committed but not yet married couple. Bornheimer also stars in ABC's "Romantically Challenged," which is scheduled to premiere in the spring. - Former Disney Channel star Michalka and O'Grady ("NYPD Blue," "American Dreams") will star in The CW's "Hellcats," about a college student (Michalka) who joins her school's cheerleading team to help pay her tuition. O'Grady will play her irresponsible mom. - "Past Life" star Bishop has signed on to ABC's "Body of Evidence," about a neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner (Dana Delany is in talks for the role). Bishop will play one of her colleagues at the ME's office. Source: Zap2It |

^^Here, here! My life hasn't been the same since Boston Legal went off the air. LOL! I love Kathy Bates as well. It's the fact that it's tied to NBC that has me worried though. |

I will never get the neverending glut of primetime cop, doc and lawyer shows. I really think the only reason people watch reality TV half the time is just to escape the glut of procedurals. |
