I don't think it starts until Fall 2011. I remember it being said that Simon was quitting Idol this year so he would have a full year to prepare the show for it's launch/ I think ratings are going to be down for most shows over the next month or so. I feel like a broken record but the past few years late March/April has brought some pretty bad numbers, particularly to Idol. Things usually pick up in May once we are town to top 5 and all. Idol Gives Back could give it a boost too in a few weeks. |

Last nights Modern Family was hilarious. The product placement for The Ipad was brilliantly done, loved that Phil finally got his Ipad. |

Most people I know (actually, pretty much every person I come across) refer to the next Fall as the one upcoming in the same year but whatever floats your boat  . |

Why do you refuse to admit that Idol is slowly deteriorating in the ratings? The show will pick up Final four but it's still going to be down 4-5 million viewers and 2.0+ points in demos versus last year. 2007 - 26.5 million 10.8/28 2008 - 24.6 million 9.3/24 2009 - 24.1 million 8.2/23 2010 - 20.4 million 6.7/19 |

Yeah, Idol is going down. But it's normal to lose viewers after 9 seasons. Hell, it's normal to lose viewers after five seasons! People get bored. I have been watching Idol since season 7 (so this is my third) and I am already bored. What I think they should do is not have Idol on next January, waiting a season, and then brining it back revamped. New panel of judges and all. That is unless X Factor succeeds. Then I don't see the point of bringing it back at all. Having two basically the same shows is silly. |

Oh I agree Manny, It's time for the show to start losing viewers. I just don't agree that the reason the ratings are down is because it's March/April LOL I am shocked Idol will lose the title of America's #1 show for the second time this season. First time it lost to the Olympics and this time it was bested by Dancing with the Stars Dancing with the Stars 23.0 million (+2.8 million vs last season) American Idol 21.8 million (-2.2 million vs last season) |

I'm not refusing to admit anything LOL. I know they are. Any show would at this point, although I do think it can gain viewers back depending on the singers. I just think the decreases overblown. It's not like the lost a ton overnight. They lose a little each year. That is why I don't think losing Simon will hurt. They will lose viewers but much like they've been. Hell, they were up early on this season during the audition rounds. Who knows. Next year we could be saying they've gained. I think a revamp would be stupid. They always change things season to season anyway whether it's a judge or some new twist. Having it go away would hurt it more. The show lives and dies on the contestants it has. More then likely, it will just slowly keep declining but Fox will still love it because it's not expensive and it's a good promotional tool. As for my March/April mention, I swear we get into this debate every year. It happens. It's been happening every year since the clock change got moved to March. Even before that, when weather gets better, people don't watch or they watch later or whatever. And this is not just about Idol. It affects most shows. It definitely affects soaps too. I've seen people all over the net note how their TV viewing wanes around this time of year. I've known people in real life that have done the same. They don't watch or watch sporadically and then pick it up around early May to watch things until the season ends. Hell, I do the same with some shows. MY DVR gets backed up and I end up having to have catchup marathons, sometimes even during the summer. |

Seriously- unintended consequence of that darn time change move is that it hurts tv ratings. They need to think about that. Modern Family rocks, and I'm thrilled it's popular enough to survive. I didn't even see the iPad storyline as product placement. |

Exactly, PX. Since that time change move a few years ago, I've noticed ratings seem to dip for many shows right after that until sweeps. I can understand why too, especially if nice weather comes early and, as far as where I live, we've been getting 70's and 80's the past couple years in late March and April and having pretty cool May and Junes. Having the time change come early means it gets darker later earlier then it would so people will spend more time outside and not watching TV, at least not right away. That may mean they turn to the internet too for TV viewing. |
