I'm not watching Parenthood, but the fact that it's beating V and The Good Wife in demos is pretty big and the show should get a renewal. Lost was awesome last night. Can't wait for the final episodes. |

Rick, is there any way you can find out about the other shows and if they dropped off as well? It seems like the numbers for everyone are down across the board. I haven't seen numbers that low for NCIS in some time and TBL is also down too from where it was in the Fall, I believe.

It seems like everyone is though. I know Idol is the easy target because they have dominated for so long and are having a bad year in the opinion of some but this is about more then one show. NCIS was once getting around 19 million. DWTS is down quite a bit too. I know I sound like a broken record but it always seems like this time of year brings major drops. Things seem to rebound in May but the past two years or so (since the whole early "Spring Ahead" clock change) it's been like clockwork where there are sharp drops late March-April. |

I would say DVR and online viewing. Most of my friends and family don't watch shows live anymore. |

I agree. American Idol will most defenitely rebound when they get down to the final contestants. |

The ratings on zap2it were broken down by hour. If I remember correctly, Idol was at 17.1 million in the 8pm hour and then surged to 22.x million for 9pm. Which I think buttresses what Phoenix is saying about daylight savings time. The ratings are still down like they are for everyone (and frankly I think most are surprised Idol's held on to so many for so long), but longer daylight is having a negative impact. |

I don't think it's just that. That's probably affecting them all the time, although moreso now with the better weather and more daylight. Plus, you had spring break to take into account a few weeks ago and soon younger kids are out for spring vacation. Colleges are headed to the end of the school year. As Px noted, the clock change happening early has made a major impact. It's been like this every year and it seems to get worse and worse. |

There were 46 million people watching TV at 8pm which is down about 4 million vs Fall Also Nielsen put out a press release a few weeks ago that 66% of DVR viewers watches the programs the same day they DVR them, usually within 3 hours. |

I don't watch one show live anymore, I only DVR DAYS, Family Guy, Chelsea Lately, Nip/Tuck(over now), Rescue Me, TBL, and a few other shows and for the last month have maybe caught 2 episodes live. I would like to know just how many others do the same. I guarantee soaps would have many more viewers if calculated accurately. I have to agree with Phoenix, the time change earlier in the year really does seem to have messed up viewership. |

You also have to remember that March and April are Spring Break months, the start of Daylight Savings and frankly, great weather. People aren't sitting at home glued to their televisions (it also doesn't help when most shows are in reruns since December and February doesn't seem to matter anymore). I also think the ratings system needs a complete overhaul. They should be able to track EVERYONE's viewing habits, one way or another. Sampling "so many" homes is not an indication of anything.
