ATWT Fan Club Luncheon

Just like the final GL luncheon (last October), the lines were incredibly long, and I only got to see a handful of stars. I am facing several health issues, not the least of which concerns my mobility. For my legs to numb up, as they did, when I was on line, you know the lines were exceedingly long. Hindsight being what it is, and considering that both GL and ATWT are now history, I would strongly the fan club presidents of the other existing shows to come up with a better way of having the fans and stars meet and mingle. If 36 stars are in attendance, and you get to see only 6, it's not worth the admission fee. IMHO.

I did see Evan Alex Cole and Tom Pelphrey, Peter Parros, 'Camille,' in fact I won a framed photo prop of Peter Paros and Tamara Tunie. Ellen Dolan, Terri Columbino, 'Gabriel' and nuFaith, Kathryn Hays was leaving (early) just when it came my turn to see her (it happened the last time, too, last year, ironically).

Frankly, I had more interaction with the stars at the Martinis with Henry. I got to speak to Austin Peck, Ann Sayre, Colleen Zenk Pinter gave me a bear hug, Vienna, Jon Prescott, Todd Rotundi. At 'Don't Tell Mama,' I spoke with Eileen Fulton and Lesli Kay. Unfortuntely, I took ill, at that point, and ha to leave without seeing Eileen's performance.

Fortunately, I was able to tell all of them about the forthcoming book I am involved in that will be published in December by the University Press of Mississippi, 'The Survival of Soap Opera: Transformations for a New Media Era.' In the book, I talk about growing up with ATWT and Edge of Night (I was born 3 weeks after their April 2, 1956 CBS premieres). My name is even listed on the publisher's flyer...alphabetically, I am listed just before Tristan Rogers of General Hospital. They all seemed very interested in my book, particularly Tom Pelphrey who said that he hoped the contributors and editors of the book had the magic answer to the survival of the soap opera genre.

On the brighter side, I won 7 raffle prizes (last year, I won 4)...including...Gwen and Will's last script from April 4, 2008 and color photographs of them, each individually, and together, all autographed...and framed photos of the bridal couple Martha Byrne and Jon Hensley at one of their weddings) and Tamara Tunie and Peter Parros and I also won 'The Man from Oakdale' book.
