Well to be fair, who knows how much farther he would have gone had she not slapped his head. She's definitely a week 2 or 3 exit though. Too hard, too fast. |

Ellie, If you don't mind me seeking your knowledge on this stuff, what is the thing Andrew is wearing around his neck and arm for his morning prayers? Posted Image |

I'm not too worried about alliances at the moment. I'm sure they'll all crumble by Week 3 or 4 and it'll be another free for all. Annie's definitely overplaying right now. Not smart. Kathy/Monet ... wow, that one surprises me. Well, I guess not really. Monet probably wants a mother figure to take care of her like her mother does outside of the game. Kristen, Ragan and Britney seem like the floaters at the moment. Hayden/Enzo/Lane/Matt won't last. Early alliances never do. |

Yeah, let me be clear, I think it's a disgusting thing to do... I was just making the points that it seems that both Andrew and Annie are overdoing things. He's either the saboteur imo or using the "get everyone to hate you" ploy, and she's overdramatizing what happened in order to get attention and turn the house against him (which may be what he wants!) I really don't think he was doing it because he wanted to get some action... he said a bunch of times he has no interest in a 'showmance'. |

No problem! Seriously, ask me anything. The prayer shawl he's wearing is called a "tallis". It's only worn by men, during morning prayers. Here is a pretty good explanation: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/Tallis.html The black leather strapped things are called "tefillin". They consist of two black leather boxes which contain biblical verses. One is worn on the forehead, and one is worn on the upper arm and wrapped around the lower arm. They are only worn by men, for morning prayers and not on the Sabbath. Here is a link: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/tefillin.html |

One other Andrew/Judaism comment (lol) - the whole pizza cookie sheet thing really didn't make sense, which is another reason I think he's doing this as a ploy or he's the sab. He really couldn't use the cookie sheet no matter what they made on it - and anyway, didn't he say in his videos he "wouldn't be using their dishes"? So all of a sudden he IS sharing their dishes? Something's not connecting there. |

The only thing I find interesting about the whole thing is he's choosing to do these prayers outside the HOH door .... |

And yes, I dont think he was doing it necessarily to score some V time either. Just think Andrew is totally awkward around people. |

I agree about Andrew. He probably is very socially awkward and doing what he thinks all 20-somethings do (nasty come-ons, flirting, trying to feel up the women). I feel kind of bad for him, actually. I'm very nervous for PoV because I don't want Kathy put up as a pawn. The pawns always go home. Everyone is also talking about how if Brendon comes off the block, Rachel will probably not be voted out either. Which is DUMB. Break them up! |

LOL! Didn't think of that! Yeah very good point - I mean I don't know him personally but in the Orthodox culture, that stuff really isn't done at all. He really is "over-trying" to fit in. |

Ellie, I had no idea there were kosher rules in regard to cooking utensils and dishes. I thoguht it was only food that had rules to go by. I don't understand what the rules are in regards to that. I remember something HILARIOUS that had happened on MTV Road Rules. That chick Amaya refused to go bobbing for pigs feet in a giant aquarium... she was jewish, but not practicing by any means... all of a sudden, she said that she couldn't bob for the pig's feet because of her "religion", and everyone pressured her into doing it anyway... such a drama queen (She just didn't want to do it because she was grossed out) she came up to the tank, with tears and running mascara. Everyone knew she was BS'ing them because she had SAUSAGE for breakfast, and never did ANYTHING kosher the entire time she was on the show. But anyway... she was closing her eyes, looking up to heaven anhd saying "Forgive me, Jesus!!" I just laughed my BUTT OFF... forgive me JESUS??? A Jewish girl asking for forgiveness from JESUS? One could tell she did not practice at all, funnier than shit. Edited by alphanguy, Jul 9 2010, 10:35 AM.

Thanks! I really enjoyed these last season. I wish the show were less scripted and less telepromptered - Julie does have a lot of personality and really follows the game, but very little of that comes through (imo) during the show itself. In the interviews, we can see it a bit more. |

LOL!!!! That's hysterical!! Reminds me of a story I heard of someone who tried to get out of jury duty because they said it was a Jewish holiday. Turns out the judge was an Orthodox Jew and knew the score right away. Yes in regards to dishes (and ovens, grills, toasters, etc) - anything that was used to cook non-kosher food cannot be used to cook kosher food. In addition, within kosher kitchens, you need two of certain things, because dairy and meat must be kept separate. So for example, in my kitchen we have two microwaves, one for dairy (like I use it to melt cheese on pasta a lot), and one for meat (let's say to heat up spaghetti and meatball leftovers). If I go to a friend's house who doesn't keep kosher, I can't use their microwave at all. (There are ways to do it, like wrap something up a few times in aluminum foil before putting it in a nonkosher oven, but it gets complicated and isn't usually done... though I could see Andrew doing that with his food in the BB oven if he has to.) |

WOW... I didn't know all that, does that also go for cooktop burners? Or only enclosed ovens? |

Cooktop burners is a little complicated - basically the way to make something kosher that isn't is to heat it up to a glowing point. So for an oven, you could self-clean it, which is above 500 degrees. (Of course it's a huge pain to have to run an oven on self clean each time you want to use it, but it would be an option.) For a burner, you can 'burn it out' first and just leave it on high for a few minutes (as long as it's clean). However, you also can't cook food in a kosher pot (even if you did make the burner kosher) if there are other pots with nonkosher food on the same stove. If it were me in that situation, I'd just get a single camping type burner or something. |

My best friend is Jewish, but he's not orthodox by any means. He doesn't eat pork and follows the holiday's, but he and his family don't do a majority of what an Orthodox Jew does. And I think a lot of Jewish families are just very close knit which doesn't leave a lot of time for life away from them doing things with friends. My friend did EVERYTHING with his parents and his brother. Was really socially awkward, very much in his shell. |

They're up and on indoor lockdown. Andrew wants Matt out next week (he was trying to make deals with Hayden) and said he won't take Brendon off of the block if he wins PoV. Edited by KMan101, Jul 9 2010, 11:17 AM.
