The irony is that the story would have been a lot more interesting if people were generally torn between Hope and their past friendship with Carly. It would have driven it home to Hope even more that she was "replaced," when she was gone, adding to her feelings of anger towards Bo and giving viewers another chance to see where she was coming from.
