After all... tomorrow is another day!

I have a feeling this is going to be a little long so I felt like giving my rant it's own thread rather than just posting in general discussion. I don't know about anyone else but I'm PISSED at OLTL. I'm pissed at Ron Carvilati for actually writing decent material for this show on occasion enough that I actually came to care about Llanview and its denizens having avoided the soap almost my entire life up until 3 years ago yet everything on this show now is crap and I don't get the logic behind any of the stories at all. Why is the only couple allowed to have a real romance and semblance of happiness -- Rex and Gigi? After all these years and all these fakeouts and copouts, who on earth actually gives a fuck at this point what man provided the baby batter that resulted in Rex? Why does Ron C. go to the well so much when it comes to wrapping up romantic triangles by making the odd man out turn psycho to deliver one or two action-packed episodes at the expense of any long-term story or return potential? I mean just going back fairly recently we had that with Ross, Sky and now it looks like we'll get it with Eli. Speaking of... would it kill this show to have some man actually LOVE Blair and not be a creep? Just wondering. What is the logic behind spending all these years building up these young twuwuv couples and then trashing them in the skankiest of ways... Langston cheating on Markko in such a desperate and pathetic fashion with Ford and now I tune into an episode and find Cole hot and heavy with Hannah? WTF?!?!!?! I'm not that invested in either couple but way to shit all over their young fans (I'm assuming they are the reason OLTL does so great in U-17), and one of your main hopes of staying on the air, show. Or if they don't turn psycho or skank, Ron's third option seems to be just killing the dude off. What a mistake the show made killing off Nash and Jared and throwing those guys away when now there's such a huge void in the late 20s/early 30s group on the show that they have to fill up the airtime with a whole high school. Are they acting choices or is it the writing that make both John McBain and Todd Manning such automaton robots. I mean yeah at least John isn't a sociopath like Todd, but sorry he's just as boring with his emotionless, flawless superhero schtick. He's not even that attractive either. At this point I don't know why any woman on the show wants to be with either of them, yet the show would have me believe that both their dicks are magic that women can't get enough of. Who do I have to blow to get more Cristian and Layla airtime? There... I feel better. Feel free to join me in any and all OLTL vents. |

I'm all for the next generation but there's a huge gap. You go from the Viki/Dorian/Nora/Bo, etc. age to Tea/Blair/Todd/John/Marty, then Natalie/Jessica and then you have a gazillion teenagers. It's bad when you read spoilers and all you see are teenagers in them. The adults get a day or two of story but the teens fill up the rest. Now, mind you, they aren't horrible teens, but all the new ones are cookie cutter teens. I seriously cannot tell a difference between Nate, Ford and James. |

I agree about the whole teen thing. Right now it is so overkill. I guess they are trying to get "new viewers" because kids are home from school. When are TPTB going to realize that you are not going to get new viewers when you continue to piss off your old ones. I just watched the Soapnet preview for the week on YouTube and it is all about the teens. Now I don't have as much of a problem with them destroying Langston/Markko the way that they did. Ford played Langston and as the naive high school girl with little experience in relationships fell for it. That actually seemed realistic to me. Now the Starr/Cole/Hannah/James thing that is stupid. Starr/Cole have enough internal issues with her father that could split them up that you don't need two new characters to come in between. But then again I still would not be surprised we find out that BB is actually leaving and that whole "My twitter account was hacked" stuff was a cover because ABC didn't want the news out yet. Seriously there are people that bored on Twitter that they want to hack BB's account. Todd/John is the same thing I see at GH with Sonny/Jason. These characters are the golden boys that every story needs to be around. Now I was not watching OLTL before RC was writing so I don't know if they were always the focal point or it is a RC thing. I know on GH a lot of the Sonny/Jason love is Guza, but I also think Frons has his finger in there as well. My problem with OLTL is just that it is so hot and cold. When it is good it is good and when it is bad it is horrible. I still just don't think RC has full control of the path he wants stories to take and has to make changes to make others happy. I remember when Rex found out Mitch was his father. Then all of a sudden two months later he wasn't. One of these was the way it was originally going to go and the other was a rewrite. It is as though there are two different groups of people writing this show and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. |

Soaps have at least six months planned out (sometimes longer for certain story arcs). I think early this year, or late last year when the soap was on break, TPTB decided whatever they were doing was not working and they needed to majorly switch gears. That's why they got rid of all the new characters/actors of the last year - Stacy, Sky, Rachel, Kish - and brought on all these new characters all of a sudden. I think the massive overhaul was a bad idea. People were just getting used to the new characters on the screen and then suddenly it is a 180 and all bunch new characters again. You have to introduce new characters slowly and work them in over time. Fade characters out slowly, one at a time, not all at once. This soap is breaking a lot of the rules and paying for it in the ratings. The writing is good and the stories play out at the right pace. Some of them are just boring and the characters not interesting enough to carry them. They blew it getting rid of Sky. I was liking Sky/Gigi and would be a lot more interested in the show if they were still a possibility. |

Yep. I was really enjoying them too. Farah Fath may not be the best actress but Gigi's interaction with Sky reminded me why I liked her as Mimi in her pairings with Rex and Shawn. It really seemed like the only reason they hurriedly wrote out Sky and sent him packing was that someone (either FF and JPL or Frons or whoever) thought Sky was too much of a threat to the Rex-Gigi pairing that they had to get rid of him. |

That was about the time I quit watching, is when they got rid of Sky, made him go nuts, and left Kish high and dry. I started watching for Farah Fath, but dang. I feel overkill with her like I do for Allison Sweeney, although I do know Fath isn't on everything, BUT she's not even as talented as Sweeney. I feel like Rex and Gigi are being force-fed to everyone, and beautiful relationships like Charlie and Vicky are hindered. Blair and Eli could be awesome, but Blair is just everyone's Mom and cheerleader, pretty much. Don't get me started on the destruction of Langston. |

OLTL is boring to me right now as I don't know some of the characters they are focusing on--it confuses me how some people already love James or Nate as how long have they been on the show?! I could care less about them or their families. |

I want to marry this post. It explains everything that is wrong with this show. Carlivati, Frons, or whoever seem to have a phobia againat giving Todd, John, and Rex any real rivals. Scott Clifton is an amazing actor, yet he was let go because he dared to mess with Rex and Gigi. There is NO reason why Dan Gauthier shouldn't be on contract playing Kevin Buchanan except that he would be a worthy rival against Todd. They have killed off Nash and Jared and for what?! Natalie is all up on John's boring ass dick at least Jessica got an interesting love interest. It wasn't even a year ago that this should had about 10 -12 actors in the late 20's/early 30's. They were of different ethnic backgrounds and interesting. Now we are left with Rex, Gigi, Natalie, Jessica, and the token minorities. I would blow Frons, Carlivati, and all the big wigs at ABC to get my girl Tika Sumpter some airtime, but she gets ignored because she is black. ABC Daytime is racist, homophobic, and misogynistic, and I am sick of this shit. How did OLTL start off a show with a Jewish family, a Polish Roman Catholic family, a black woman who had an interracial romance to a show firing gay and black characters in the span of a month, and blaming them for horrible ratings. Why did Talia, Nash, Jared, hell even Stacy have to be killed off? This show was the only soap left that seemed vibrant and alive. It was interesting, diverse, and hip. Now it is just like all the others. A dead show just walking around waiting for the axe to be dropped. :shame: |

Yes? And your point is? Believe me, if I corrected every misspelled word and apostrophe atrocity on this board, I'd be busy as busy as hell. So, some spell it Vicky and some spell it Vicki and some spell it Viki, and my point is, my point, thank you. Now, if you care to comment about my COMMENTS, you'd be more than welcome. |
