Soap Opera Network

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Months after ABC Daytime announced they would be cutting down on original episodes from their soaps "All My Children," "General Hospital" and "One Life to Live" each year, despite no official deal with the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) allowing this, the network has confirmed that they will begin airing encore episodes of the dramas beginning Wednesday, October 27, which marks the first non-holiday or unanticipated repeat airing for any daytime soap(s).

As always, the repeat airings are being used to "enhance current story and give fans the opportunity to see episodes they really loved and have wanted to see again," the network said.

The network is expected to air upwards of 20 repeat episodes of each drama series through out the year including those already airing on or around major holidays.

What follows are the episode summaries for each soap repeat airing:

ALL MY CHILDREN
Episode #8927 (original air date 8/31/04) --Ryan first confesses his love for Greenlee, and she is both shocked and thrilled when Ryan gives her an engagement ring and proposes. Zach is short with Maria when she says she's committed to her marriage. Kendall has many drinks and blows up about Greenlee and Ryan to Ethan. Pine Valley gets ready for a "Game of Chance" party at Zach's casino.

Notables: Ethan was played by James Scott, now airing on NBC's "Days of our Lives" in the role of EJ.

GENERAL HOSPITAL
Episode #10929 (original air date 12/1/05) --Jason and Sam arrive in Hawaii to spend their remaining days together after Jason is diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Despite their romantic activities, Sam cannot fight feelings of impending loss, and she asks Jason to make a baby so she will not be alone after he dies. Meanwhile, Georgie is held hostage by Diego, Luke is protective of young Lulu and Jax asks Liz for help with his crumbling relationship.

Notables: Georgie was played by Lindze Letherman. The character died a few weeks later.

ONE LIFE TO LIVE
Episode #10415 (original air date 4/16/09) --Todd and Tea have sex all over his house while saying they hate each other. Tea tells Todd she never intended to help him get custody of his kids. Natalie and Jared hide the truth about Chloe while the family gathers for Chloe's baptism. At Nash's grave, Jessica tells Brody they can't be friends right now. Starr and Cole discuss her attraction to Schuyler, realize Hope didn't die because of RH disease. Markko tells Langston he helped Cole fake his drug test.

Notables: Jared was played by John Brotherton. The character died at the end of 2009. Jessica and Brody are having a baby together or are they? Jason Tam who plays Markko was just fired.

"All My Children," "General Hospital" and "One Life to Live" air Weekdays on ABC. Anytime on ABC.com.

You know, if they're going to air repeats from the last few years, they could at least re-air GOOD episodes.

Agreed. GH should air some old Luke & Laura episodes. I would actually tune in for that.

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

Love that the AMC episode goes all the way back to 2004. I hope the repeats go even farther, in terms of years, into the past.

Hate that it's all about Ryan/Greenlee, but I will be psyched to see James Scott as Ethan again :)

What's remarkable about this is that Wednesday October 27 is the day before the NOVEMBER SWEEPS begin. I can understand the need to cut a few million dollars from the annual budget, but the timing seems really odd. Very strange decision.

I just think its strange to do it mid-week. I'd think fridays would be a better day to do repeats.

I'm sure they'll air some classics if the situation arises, GH went back to the mid 90s for the Brenda thing.

It would have been a good chance for OLTL to break out an Echo episode, if any of those exist anymore. But I bet they wont go past the 90s.

Honestly, if they're going to air repeats, why don't they simply re-run one of their 30 minutes soaps at 12:30. Loving? Ryan's Hope past 1981? Port Charles? Hell, work a deal with P&G and run EDGE OF NIGHT! I'd fucking kill to see EDGE reruns on TV!

Considering P&G's attitude toward soaps right now, you might have to.

I dont see it as them hating their shows. More as a move to increase their potential sale value by eliminating free streamings.

I don't see them doing that only because of "Friday Cliffhangers". I don't think they would want the viewers to wait 3 days for the next new show. Not that there have been any Friday Cliffhangers lately that made me want to tune in on a Monday!

So how can they do that if they don't have a deal with the WGA? They wanted the deal so they could pay writers less, since their is no deal does that mean the writers make the same amount of money regardless? These aren't any repeats I care to watch.

Probably. They still likely save money closing the studio for a day, or filming less scenes, paying the actors for less episodes, etc without the WGA change.
