From Deadline.com It is tricky to evaluate the ratings performance of CBS' new daytime talk show The Talk as it doesn't air against other network talk shows and it doesn't run at the same time in every market (in most, it airs at 2 PM.) But in its debut yesterday, the show hosted by Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Leah Remini averaged an OK 2.1/7 rating in the metered markets. That was 24% from what the network did in the time slot a year ago with recently cancelled soap As the World Turns. It virtually tied the established network competition at 2 PM, soap One Life to Live, which did a 2.2. |

CBS's PREMIERE OF "THE TALK" LIFTS WOMEN DEMOS "The Talk" Is Up +22% in Women 25-54, +29% in Women 18-49 and +67% in Women 18-34 Compared to Year-Ago Time Period CBS's premiere of its new daytime talk show, THE TALK, boosted key women demographics versus the year-ago time period, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day fast affiliate ratings for Monday, Oct. 18. THE TALK premiered with 2.25m viewers, 1.1 in women 25-54, 0.9 in women 18-49 and 0.5 in women 18-34. Compared to "As the World Turns" on the same day a year ago, THE TALK was up +22% in women 25-54 (from 0.9), +29% in women 18-49 (from 0.7), +67% in women 18-34 (from 0.3). THE TALK (weekdays 2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT) is co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur. Brad Bessey, Gilbert and John Redmann are executive producers. http://www.cbspressexpress.com/div.php/cbs_entertainment/release?id=26442 Let's see how long it lasts. If it continues to do well, I think that the soaps are doomed even more now. |

Guess CBS is happy. Better numbers than ATWT in demos, much cheaper to produce. Game shows and talkers will be all daytime consists of in 5-6 years |

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2010/10/the-talk-debuts-to-soap-opera-sized-ratings/1 'The Talk' debuts to soap-opera sized ratings Just in: The premiere of CBS' new daytime chat show The Talk drew 2.3 million viewers for Monday's premiere, reports USA TODAY's Gary Levin. That's about the same total that canceled soap As The World Turns claimed on the same day last year, though Talk did better among younger women. ABC's competing soap One Life to Live averaged 2.5 million in the same hour, and The View, which airs earlier in the day, had 3.8 million. |

^^ lol yep. I love it. The debut didn't even get great ratings. The show has really been panned by the critics as well. |

I watched it yesterday and I didn't like it at all. The hosts tried too hard to be funny and the topics they discussed were all fluff. On The View, they actually discuss real issues and they aren't afraid to go at it with each other. On The Talk, they just sat around giggling like gossipy schoolgirls for an hour. And the first guest was Christie Brinkley. Of all people in the world... Christie Brinkley. She couldn't be less relevant if she tried. |

Also, what's with them acting like the concept for this show is something we've never seen before? I remember in the promos they were like, "Sara Gilbert is such a smart girl. This show is her brainchild. She's brilliant." In what way? Barbara Walters came up with the same idea 15 years ago, LoL. |

ABC had to put their spin on things with this press release comparing the Talk's ratings to its time slot competitor OLTL and also The View. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/10/19/one-life-to-live-betters-premiere-of-the-talk-in-head-to-head-competition-the-view-tops-the-talk-by-1-6-million-viewers/68787

That's the part that confuses me. They're not even trying to make it different from The View. It's the exact same thing. And they couldn't find a better title? The Talk?! |

It's because everytime a guest comes out, they preface it by saying "it's time for so-and-so to have... THE TALK." As if every guest is about to learn about the birds and the bees or something, LoL. So stupid. |

So, I'm assuming that Days wasn't up against these? Does this mean OLTL had a 2.5 for today?? Wonder how far down Days is in comparison. :shame: |

Days airs at 1pm in most markets and NBC wouldn't have put out a press release anyway, ABC is most likely doing it because The Talk is a rip off of the View. |

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

I love Sara Gilbert, but The Talk is no where near as good as The View. |
