Emmerdale's Jack Walsh 'set to die in controversial plotline'

They've just been through a traumatic hostage drama - now Emmerdale is set to go through with a controversial assisted suicide storyline.

The Yorkshire-based soap will see wheelchair bound Jackson Walsh, played by Marc Silcock, 22, attempt to kill himself with help from his mother Hazel, played by former Birds Of A Feather star Pauline Quirke, 51.

Jackson will also ask boyfriend Aaron Livesy, played by Danny Miller, 20, to help end his life after he is left tetraplegic after the van he was in was hit by a train last year.

Talking to The Sun newspaper, an Emmerdale insider said: 'Jackson will start discussing plans to end his life in the next few weeks.

'His resolve to see it through will strengthen, which will lead to many rows and emotional scenes.'

However, even though there will be a helpline telephone number listed at the end of each episode dealing with the issue, campaign groups are uneasy about the plot.

Alistair Thompson, of the Care Not Killing Alliance, told The Sun: 'I hope this is done for the right reason and not to chase ratings.'

The storyline echoes the real-life case of 23-year-old Daniel James, who travelled to Switzerland to die in 2008 after being paralysed by a rugby injury.

Just last week, the soap - watched by eight million viewers - saw character Katie Sugden held hostage at gunpoint by creepy cop Nick Henshall.
