^Same here. Now there's this outpouring of Oprah hate as if she was the one behind the cancellation of AMC and OLTL. |

What is sad is she is going to get so much flak for doing nothing but speaking the truth. As much as I love my OLTL, there is no money to be made in taking on a dying genre! I thought though that she sounded quite condescending in her little speech. Daytime viewers buttered her bread for 25 years! Edited by Tammy, Apr 22 2011, 12:07 AM.

She owes no soap fan or show anything, but she was condescending. |

She was only speaking the truth. The Soaps spent years destoying themselves. I don't see why Oprah has to sugar coat it. |

People can blame Oprah all they want to for being condescending, even though I didn't see it, but she only spoke the truth. |

Exactly. She wasn't saying anything that we all didn't know already.

Like I said in the other thread, I actually thought Oprah was condescending but she always sounds that way to me LOL. I love her but her tone of voice just always comes off that way IMO. She's right though as the genre is dying and soaps have gone on for a very long time. They had to end at some point so they could come back in a new way sometime. It's not her responsibility and I do think she feels overwhelmed and would like to help but, at the end of the day, it's a business. She's making an intelligent decision based on the facts. I will say she really should've brought up how putting the soaps on at night wouldn't be helpful either because that is the point so many are fixated on. People keep saying you can put the soaps on in primetime and that may help get more viewers but the fact is there is no guarantee you can bring much of an audience to them even in primetime especially on a network as new as OWN that isn't even in alot of people's homes yet. On a more established network with lots of promotion it may be possible to make them succeed in primetime. |
