When it first became known EJ was running for mayor he said it was just a stepping stone into politics, he had greater aspirations. I too don't believe anyone but Tanya Boyd could play the true Celeste but it will be mighty interesting to see someone else try, can't be any worse than the Susan fiasco (I hope). I pray for a full and speedy recovery for Tanya Boyd. |

Agreed about there not being any stakes. Why would the audience even care who the mayor was? It didn't matter when it was Abe, or that guy who got killed. The story also suffered because the writers never decided what direction they wanted to go in. EJ decides to make his family proud by taking away his brother in law's job and ruining his uncle/grandfather of his children? Alright. EJ warns Stefano to play fair, while he's doing something underhanded, then Stefano, the one who wanted to fight dirty in the first place, goes and undermines EJ's scheme (because of an IOU to a dead woman, no less). Then there's Abe, who apparently feels that pointing out that his opponent is a criminal would be a moral failing. He also seems to have forgotten that this isn't the first election he's been in where things got personal. I do think there is a story to be told with EJ being in charge of Bope and Roman though, and it's best if the writers stop dragging things out and get to that point and tell it. There were pretty high stakes. A Dimera becoming Mayor and being able to outwardly control the town is pretty big. The issue is the show never treated it as such. The story never got proper focus until this month when they dropped Will into the middle of it and started actually having all parties involved active within the story. Back in December, we had Abe and Jennifer realize they had to play dirty to win yet there was no followup at all on that until this coming week when they both supposedly do something they may regret. Why not play that up before now or continue to build that? Then, there is the Lexie angle. You have the whole family angle with Lexie vs her family. They could've had her more active here and, over time, begin to doubt her husband can win. Realizing that while Abe is playing somewhat dirty to win it's not nearly enough, Lexie goes behind his back and comes up with her own schemes to help him win, not wanting her family to have the power that comes with being mayor. This would open numerous story doors. Perhaps, EJ finds out what Lexie did and has to decide whether to use this against her and Abe and possibly destroy their marriage, Or, it could just blow up on it's own and ruin Abe and Lexie's marriage right as it looks like Abe may win. This all would tie back to Lexie's past actions and it would open all the old wounds associated with that for Abe. They could even bring up somewhere in this story the fact that Stefano had the previous Mayor killed for Lexie so Abe could essentially win and because he was trashing Lexie and Theo. So many angles to play and that isn't even scratching the surface. How about having Jack cover the election as a reporter, thereby placing him against Jennifer at times as well as Nicole, I also would've played the John story more. Instead of rushing that to an end, they should've continued it but made it more interesting by saying that someone that knew about John embezzling the money was killed so, essentially, he wasn't just framed for embezzling but murder as well. Of course, he wouldn't have done it but it would make that story more interesting in terms of potential punishment for John. And you also have this Will angle to play too, which I think they are doing a good job with. Will is being corrupted and, eventually, he enjoys what he's doing and EJ enjoys having him around. He becomes an asset so EJ promises him a job if he wins Mayor. There is obviously the Sami/EJ affair angle to play too. There is loads they could've done in addition to what they did do and are still doing but they dropped the ball big time. It's not the idea of the Mayor story. It's the way they went about it. They never tied everything together properly. It never got enough focus. They never focused enough on what was at stake and played it up as Salem being at risk. They never involved enough people. The John story wasn't played right and didn't play as into this as it should've. And, now, just when they are making this story interesting, they are ending it. Completely dumb but the writing has been shoddy from the beginning so there you go. Hopefully, they don't drop the ball on the aftermath at least. EJ NEEDS to win and they really need to play up his using his new position for nefarious means. The people of Salem need to be shown as being afraid and need to be shown to be actively trying to oust him. My belief is the show will likely drop the ball on this too because they are way too concerned with cast and story balance so the story won't get the focus it deserves, as has been the case since the beginning, and it will likely be dropped or rewritten by the time it does start coming together much like most stories on this damn show. |

There could have been high stakes. There should have been high stakes, but there weren't actually high stakes because the show didn't bother to map out what it meant to be mayor of Salem before jumping into the story. Abe has been mayor for a couple of years now and it has only had the most miniscule effect on everyone's lives. This regime is so fond of having people talk, so why not have them lay out the amount of damage EJ could do to the town instead of riding on "A Dimera wants to be in charge (but we're not going to tell you what that would entail). That's bad, okay?" Bope are supposed to be broke; have them worry about what would happen to their finances if EJ won the election and fired Bo in favor of a Dimera-friendly commander. Give Abe a few scenes where he was actually acting as mayor and let the audience draw conclusions about what EJ would do differently in his position and how that would affect people's lives. At this point, for all we know, Abe spends his days at town hall meetings listening to people with too much time on their hands complaining about zoning or something. His job, as written right now, has been too detatched from the rest of the canvas for it to be at the center of a story. |

You know what would be interesting. If Ej wins (I firmly believe he will). He fires Bo, Hope, Winston and anyone associated with the Hortons and the Brady's from the Salem PD and he puts his corrupt cops to run the department. THEN, these murders start and the entire town starts to question Ej's actions and motives. It would really be great if the Salem PD was known for solving every crime, but since they haven't solved a crime since the 80s, it makes no sense for the citizens to blame the corrupt mayor's decisions to fire those that he doesn't like from the force. But I bet that is the way this will play out, then Bo, Hope and Winston will end up working for Cafe's PI firm trying to solve the murders. |

The stakes are high. Abe is a good guy so him being mayor doesn't change much from the last mayor, BUT obviously if its a DiMera in charge things are going to change in a major way. I guess that's just common sense if you watch the show. Maybe they should have broken it down for newer viewers, but I think Bo, Hope, Jennifer, Abe, and Lexie have said 100 times that they don't want a DiMera in office because it could ruin their town that they all love. |

But the mayor before Abe was not a good guy, he was corrupted. That's why Abe left the PD and went up against him. Stefano supported Marino with his money and when it was time for the election Stefano told Marino he would continue to support him as long as he left Lexie and Theo out of the campaign against Abe, which he didn't, and that's why Stefano had him killed. |

Exactly. The story didn't fail because the centerpiece of it was being mayor. Sure, with Abe as mayor, it's been no big deal because he's a good guy. Why would there be? Plus, the previous regime never did anything with Abe and Lexie. You can tell Higley was planning something when Abe began to run for mayor in 2008 because they had Mayor Marino killed by Stefano and you had the feeling that was going somewhere but Tomlin and Whitesell came in and Abe and Lexie pretty much went MIA. They just didn't play it up enough. The seriousness of it wasn't there. They had characters mention that EJ can't be mayor and that they need to prevent it but there was no intensity or urgency to it. |

Exactly. Salem already had a shady criminal as a mayor and the following bad things happened as a result of him being in charge: *crickets* The Bradys have been bellyaching about the Dimeras for years, but with the exception of Sami who 1. Went on a one person mission to reignite the feud and 2. who up until recently has been pretty separated from the rest of her relatatives, they've all been coexisting in town for quite awhile. Stefano has been a regular at the pub. The V word hasn't been uttered in ages. So yea, the writers need to put a little effort into defining what it is that either A. The non-Dimeras think EJ is going to do or B. What EJ plans to do once he's mayor. It really comes down to "show, not tell." They made the same mistake with John's trial, for the most part. Yea, prison is bad, but it takes a little more than that an ill defined bad outcome to make the audience connect with what the character is facing. Edited by six, Jan 20 2012, 02:20 PM.

'Days of Our Lives' scoop: Meet Lexie's mom! -- EXCLUSIVE Posted Image An eccentric psychic is about to show up in Salem. EW has learned exclusively that Beverly Todd (Crash, Bucket List) will join NBC’s Days of Our Lives as Celeste, the nutty mom of Lexie Carver (Renee Jones). Todd will first appear on April 3 for a multi-episode arc. Here’s how the producers described Celeste when they put out the call for a "gorgeous African-American female": “Celeste is a unique character in every way. She has had a very sordid past with many errors in judgment. Celeste is a tarot card reader and somewhat of a fortune teller although usually tends to have visions of doom for people. She has a strong bond with her daughter and grandson and she is very protective of them. She comes back to Salem to be with her family and help keep them safe.” Todd is taping now. |

Hmmm. Because she'll start airing April 3rd and Ali Sweeney directed episodes YESTERDAY to start airing April 11th, it makes me believe that DAYS had to delay Celeste's taping schedule in order to find the right actress (i.e. Todd). |

I just hope she doesn't attempt Celeste's accent. That would seem too forced for me. Hope she does her own thing with it while keeping the character integrity intact. I'm hopeful :-) |

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I'm glad Celeste is coming back because I love the character, but on the other hand I'm disappointed because it was Tanya who made me love the character in the first place. To have someone else playing her just won't be the same. |

It definitely won't be, but at least they got a respectable actress to play her if it couldn't be Tanya. Please, DAYS...Don't fuck this up!!!!!!!!!!!! |
