Having had much chance to comment but I just want to comment on the last few weeks and this week a little bit...

First off, I was glad Shannon went when she did. She really regressed in her last few performances so, Mitch, you would be happy to know I jumped off the bandwagon after her last performance. I knew as soon as she selected "One Sweet Day" (seriously, you don't sing that song on these shows) that she was a goner and her performance of it stunk.

Also, I've really come around to Elise the past two weeks. Why? Well, her song selection has been impeccable. Not only is she picking songs to suit her BUT she's taking risks. Her choosing "Whole Lotta Love" last night was a HUGE risk and she rocked it. She is this year's Haley and has become one of my faves. My only issue with her is I think she comes off older than she is and I think that will prevent her from winning. Image is just as important as the music.

I just can't get into Philip. He's talented and has a good voice but I just feel like he's far too dated to be relevant right now. This show really can't afford another winner like him. His personality is a little bland and distant and I just find him to be a generic throwback. His performances are always solid vocally but...eh. Nothing special.

Colton is a fave of mine but I feel he's struggled in recent weeks. He has a limited range and given he's trying to be a indie rock type on this show that is a problem because people expect a James Durbin-type performance for singers like him. I feel like he's tried too hard and pushed his range at times too much, leading to the notes being all over the place at times. Having said all that, last night he was fantastic. His best for sure. The song sat right in his range and, as always, he connected with it. His vulnerability is his biggest strength. He did great.

Jessica should be the favorite and should win this hands down IMO because she knows how to play the game and has a good idea of how to be a star. She knows what look she wants image-wise, she clearly designs her performances to showcase her as a "diva" so she knows how to be over the top in this era of over the top artists (which makes her relevant), and her singing is flawless. She has a presence and you can't teach that. She mixes it up every week. Last night, she pulled back. Some weeks she goes for it. She's done uptempo. She's great. I just wish she would show a little more personality in her clip packages prior to her performances as she's coming off a bit too generic.

Hollie is starting to regress. I originally thought Jessica had surprise elimination written all over her (and she still does) but now I think Hollie is the one who may take that title first. She's doing what Pia did last year. She's singing nothing but ballads and now she's picking ballads that don't even sit well with her voice (like last night with "Jesus Take The Wheel" but at least she finally picked a ballad that was more suited to her age). She needs to switch it up a bit next week but still show her range. We need more of her personality in her performances. We know from the clip packages she has one. I think she's in danger tonight.

HeeJun has to go. Even when he's good, it's just generic and I don't believe that he's all of a sudden taking it seriously now. He was nothing special last night. I don't get the praise he got at all. Same with DeAndre. He overused the falsetto way too much. He does that alot, actually.

Joshua, I feel, is much better than Jacob last year because he shows restraint. I like him but he sucks at uptempo songs and he, too, could stand to change things up a bit more IMO. I feel like he pick different songs but they always sound too similar to me.

Skylar is pretty consistent and she knows who she is. I do think she needs to watch her vocals a bit as she tends to get lost in the song and shout a bit but, other than that, I think she's good. She's a great performer with good stage presence. I do wish she would slow it down a bit with a ballad just to show she can do it like the others can. I still think she's the best chance at a girl winning this season too given she has the country fanbase on her side. If she can get a good percentage of the teen girls, she's set.

The judges were trying way too hard last night to make it seem like this group was the best ever. They had been doing so good the last few weeks. They were actually judging. I mean, Stephen was even being harsh at times. It was like Nigel told them all to be over the top in praise last night to beat it into people's brains that "Idol just keeps getting better" and all that crap. This group is good. Probably better than last year's IMO since there are more who are capable of winning, which makes the competition better. However, five standing ovations last night was too much. It has made standing ovations no big deal on this show. No one deserved it last night. We've seen far better performances the past few weeks that were more deserving IMO.

Ryan mentioned a shocker tonight. Mitch posted the DialIdol numbers but the raw numbers on DI have been far more accurate in predicting whose going home or who may be in the bottom 3 (I believe those numbers have predicted at least 2 of the bottom 3 in recent weeks). I think those numbers were also more accurate last year. The overall DI numbers tend to be 100% accurate once we get to top 5 or so. Anyway, this week, the raw numbers suggest HeeJun, DeAndre, and Joshua are bottom 3 with Skylar having a chance at landing in the bottom 3 as well. However, Jessica's busy percentages are down in the bottom 3 and her overall DI score is in the bottom 3. I'm pegging her as the "shocker" tonight as I felt she may be the surprise elimination. The good news is they have the save so we know they will save her if she ends up there. I would say the only ones really safe without a doubt are Colton and Philip. I think Skylar will make it through without the threat of elimination but her ending up in the bottom 3 would not be surprising.

I so miss Simon Cowell this year. J-Lo is echoing Paula Abdul this year, she is much worse as a judge than last year. This show needs to put Jimmy Iovine in as Judge, he would be great, he's very truthful, unlike J-Lo, Randy & too a lesser degree Steven.

The only trio that was good, and they were awesome, I rated them a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale, Phillip, Colton & Elise's Fleetwood Mac/Steve Nicks medley. Jessica, Hollie & Sklyar's Madonna medley was average to terrible, I give them a 6, mostly due to Jessica. DeAndre, Heejun & Joshua sucked with their Michael Jackson medley. Sounded like they were drunk at a karoake bar making fools of themselves, a horrible 2, Michael Jackson probably turned over in his grave. Yet the idioitic J-lo and Co. bragged 'em up, as they did on the Madonna medley, but not so much.

My Rankings.
(1) Elise Testone 10 --- Best performance to date. I f'ing loved her Led Zep "Whole Lotta Love". This woman needs to be a rock singer with a little blues & soul thrown in!

(2) Phillip Phillips -9.75 -- Yet again, another great performance.

(3) Colton Dixon --9.5-- Not much on Lifehouse, but the song was very, very fitting for Colton. Done better than the original imho.

(4) Jessica Sanchez --9.25---Pretty Good again. Glad she changed up Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams" to a ballad and didn't copy her or anyone else.

(5) HeeJun Han-- 8.75 ---This is the Heejun I became a fan of.

(6) Hollie Cavanagh --- 8.25 --- Pretty good, but something about her voice I don't like, kinda Celine Dion, but worse, Surprised she didn't do Celine. Agree with Steven Tyler. She should've sung something else, "Jesus, Take The Wheel" to identifiable with Carrie Underwood imho.

BOTTOM 3

(7) Joshua Ledet -- 7.5 --- was just ok. Weird singing Mariah Carey's "Without You" imho. Needs to tone down the male Fantasia vibe. Is he gay, I think so. But that has nothing to do with why I think he's totally over-rated. I f'ing loved Adam Lambert.

(8) DeAndre Birkensick -- 5.5---- just don't care for that type of singing, bored me, bland, same ol' same ol' from him

(9) Skylar Laine---- 3---- karoke, horrible, copycating of Miranda Lambert. I WAS a fan, Now she's my pick to GO HOME!

Have you ever seen anyone try harder than that moment right there? Ugh. I think she's got skills and actually adds something to the songs she guests on. But that was a mess.

About AI- Whatever. I was surprised to see an Asian-American get this far, frankly, given who votes.

Hollie is in trouble, I think. I don't know if they'd save her.

Wow, color me shocked BOTH Skylar and Hollie were bottom 3. I thought one or the other or maybe Jessica would be. I guess Jessica has established a strong fanbase now so she may be in the clear until we get to top 5. Maybe I will have to revise my thinking and call her as the traditional potential top 4 elimination.

Skylar should be worried because she wasn't terrible last night and she should be set for a few weeks because of the country fanbase alone. I know she went second last night and that can hurt but still. Her fanbase clearly isn't as strong as it should be. Even Lauren didn't hit the bottom 3 until top 5 last year. She's not getting over to enough country fans or maybe not enough teen girls. She will have to up her game next week. I think she needs to do a ballad next week to change it up while Hollie needs to do ANYTHING but a ballad. She needed this scare and, after last night, it was obvious she may get it.

The good news is two female frontrunners got a scare but SURVIVED. That is huge. We now have 8 left and 4 are female. It's balanced so far so that is very good as opposed to past seasons. I do kind of want a female to get eliminated next week because I still fear the judges will use the save on someone like Deandre and then a girl who shouldn't go goes home the next week. If they use the save on a girl, at least then it's likely a guy like Deandre or Joshua who should go home will go home the week after and the save won't be in play to save one of them anymore.

I was surprised Jimmy came right out and implied he wants a Jessica/Hollie final since the show has been playing that close to the vest. I always find his insight interesting. He clearly is trying to motivate Colton, Hollie, and Skylar. I hope they step it up so Deandre and Joshua can go next. They really should be next in line for eliminations.

Glad HeeJun left. In true Idol fashion, he redeems himself only to get eliminated the week he probably shouldn't have been. Ironic Steven delivered the news to him that they wouldn't be saving him given Stephen tore him to shreds last week. Glad he's gone tho. He should've been next to go, although I will miss Jimmy saying he should go home every week LOL. I was a little nervous they may use the save on him the way they were acting. Before, I didn't think they would but the judges made me nervous during HeeJun's "save me" performance. He should be proud of how far he went. He annoyed me with his attitude and all but good for him. He did contribute alot to the show in terms of drama and comedy if you enjoyed him. I wonder who VFTW will support now that he's gone. I'm guessing Deandre or Joshua. The funny part is none of these contestants are awful or anything but VFTW has to support someone.

Oh and I can't believe they are just moving into the mansion now! Wow, why bother? They only have 9 left. I guess because it's a new mansion they are using (which is totally awesome and gorgeous, by the way) they had to wait for it to be ready. I guess they didn't want to go back to the haunted one that was leaking alot last year LOL. Usually, they move in once it's down to top 13. That has been a missing element this season. I don't feel like we are seeing enough of the contestants interacting with each other like last year nor are we getting to see more of their personalities in the clip packages. They just focus on the sessions with Jimmy and whoever the guest mentor is.

Oh, and while he annoyed me last season and I wish either Haley, James, or Lauren won...kudos to Scotty. He's improved a bit overall and to have the success he's had is no easy feat given people don't buy music all that much in terms of buying whole albums and what not. He's done well and, unlike winners like Kris Allen and Lee Dewyze, I think he's at least justified his winning with his success.

LOL! I have to disagree that he's like Jacob Lusk. They have similar talents, but I think Joshua has better control of his voice. I also think he's more likeable!

I like Hollie. My issue with her though is that she's very bland, always chooses safe songs, and seems very robotic on stage. I like her voice, but she needs to find her own identity as an artist, and develop a personality. Right now she's like a watered-down version of Julie Andrews meets Celine Dion.

To me their musical styles are very similar. Very gospel church choir. Not to demean either of them. I happen to like that kind of music very much. Mahalia Jackson was one of the best ever in that genre. Actually, you'll find that there's hardly any type of music I don't like. ;) My music tastes are very eclectic like that. :P

I agree 100%. I was pulling for him mostly because of his sense of humor, but he had a good voice too. I only wish some of his song choices had been better. He should be proud though of having made it this far in the competition.
