WOW! I thought even with a bad night Colton would have been able to survive. Maybe his fanbase wasn't as strong as I thought. Usually when someone has a bad night, the fanbase goes out of their way to vote. What I am still shocked at is that Hollie is still there. Even though she had a better week, I still didn't think she would still be here to this point to have this better week. At this point I have no clue how the rest of this season is going to pan out. |

WOW! How On Earth did Colton's fans not vote for him?? He is EASILY at least 3rd best of this season, if not better. Plus, you could tell that Ryan Seacrest really doesn't care for the idiot should've never been an IDOL, Taylor Hicks. He said he's in Vegas, but didn't mention singing though. I bet he's either waiting tables, bartending or dealing cards! Edited by Kevin_Buchanan, Apr 19 2012, 10:10 PM.

I doubt she was happy to see him go. They got along great, as you could tell by their duets and all the banter they had over the speculation of them dating. I think she was just happy he got to go out singing the song he wanted and on a high note. Between her reaction and his comment about "not being himself last night," I'm thinking he got steered in a direction he hated either by Jimmy or by his own choice and regrets it. Maybe that is what Skylar was celebrating. He feels liberated and she knows it so she's happy for him. I think Elise is next. Her words against the judges may have sealed it. Although Haley survived for a few weeks like that so who knows. This season is unpredictable and I like it. 2 guys and 4 girls? It's refreshing. I don't think Philip has this locked up like so many think. I don't think Colton's votes will go to him. I think they may go to Skylar if they go to anyone. Alot of Colton fans are on Twitter indicating they have no interest in watching let alone voting for anyone else. Also, Idol has skewed older this season so that works against Philip if there are less young girls watching/voting. Plus, it seems like Colton had the bulk of the young girl vote judging by the reactions so, if he did and they don't jump to Philip, I think he won't win. I think, right now, he won't make the finale. This may have just saved Jessica and upped the chances of a Jessica/Skylar finale. I guess I should've known this was coming. The "rocker" guys never seem to do get beyond top 4 on this show aside from David Cook. If your holding out for a girl win this season, you should be happy Colton just didn't end up in the bottom 3 and stay in. If he had, it would've been enough to probably propel him into the finale. Also, it seems next week will feature Queen is one of the themes. I could see everyone but Philip doing well with that. |

I was really surprised that Colton was voted out! I would have rather had them use the save on him instead of saving Jessica last week. This wasn't his best week, but he should have stayed. Hollie and Phillip both looked really upset about Colton leaving. I thought it was cute that Elise was rubbing Phillip's back. Kris Allen's song wasn't too bad. I didn't like the rotating piano though, that was annoying. |

I will say this...Philip is at least showing more personality in his interviews and backstage clips. That helps. Plus, he was genuinely upset by Colton's elimination and it showed onscreen. That may help him a bit too. I agree Angie...it was very nice seeing Elise comfort him. You can yell they are close. This whole group is. Hollie was truly a mess too. Colton came off cocky a bit this past week but you can tell he was a nice guy and well liked. It's still surreal to see 4 girls and 2 guys still left the way the last few seasons have gone. |

OMG...how does Elise keep skipping along?! She's a MESS!! HATE how she talks back to the judges & is always making excuses. I cannot stand her voice, smug personality & just overall negative aura. Ugh. Hollie really came out of her shell on Wednesday! LOVED both of her performances. Colton was downright awful. His "Bad Romance" rendition was embarrasing! His "I don't care" comment was stupid. I didn't think he'd get sent packing though. Even though I loved Hollie this week I thought for sure she'd go home up against him. Philip is just always amazing. He's got the whole package & I have no doubt he'll be in the finals. Jessica...I liked her 2nd performance better than the 1st, I didn't get why the judges were underwhelmed by it. She SANG that song, especially the beginning which was spectacular. I love her & I think she'll be in the finals with Philip :) Phoenix I don't agree with you on most things this season it seems but the one thing we agree on is Joshua - I thought he was off this week as well! Unfortunately don't think he'll make it much farther. Skylar. UGH. She's getting all the country votes I think! I just do not get the love for that girl at all. I think she tries way too hard & her voice is just so screechy to me. |

I liked Colton a lot, but his Bad Romance was a hot mess - lite on the hot, heavy on the mess. Him getting to his knees during his send off tonight. LOL. I hate his drama! He comes off as an Adam Lambert wannabe when he does that, IMO. I will miss him though. I much prefer him to Jessica, Joshua, and Skylar. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE SKYLAR! LOL. Philip's look on his face after Colton got eliminated wasn't sadness it was..."HOLY FUCK I JUST WON AMERICAN IDOL!" |

Did you guys see the interview Colton did where he said the reason he was eliminated was because the Lady Gaga song he sang turned off his "faith-based core voters?" I'm kind of glad he's gone now. |

^^^^ No I did not see that interview and what a stupid thing for Colton to say. He was voted off because he was basically the worst performer. I really thought Colton was a contender up until this week's performances. Unlike many posters here I absolutley love Skylar who I think sings from her country boots and gives it her all every time and I would not be surprised if she makes it to the final two with Phillip who I also like because he stays true to himself and does not get caught up in all the being "styled" bullshit. I think Jessica has a fabulous voice as I do Elyse but for some reason, as a member of the viewing public, I just do not feel any great affinity to either of them and I have no decent explaination as to why. I do not believe Skylar was glad to see Colton leave, I actually thought she was showing support and was singing along with him as he sang his farewell song. I am enjoying this year's Idol so much more than last year's. It is anyone's prize at the moment. Edited by cajnej, Apr 21 2012, 07:17 AM.

Wow...what an interesting night! For the first time this season, I get to review the show the night it aired and provide one my lengthy writeups. Hooray!! General thoughts first... Kudos to Ryan for hosting. It was reported before the show that he was really sick and that Nigel even stepped in for him for rehearsal. He truly gutted out. Kudos, although I hated that he touched or embraced many of the contestants and judges. Keep the germs to yourself, dude. Interesting way the judges and Ryan came out too with them entering through the crowd (was that really the best way for the very ill Ryan to enter? Let's just get everyone sick...jeez) Also very interesting that they started with a group performance. They had plenty to fill the show. I would've preferred they cut that and gave us our usual Jimmy mentoring segments because they are my favorite part of the show regularly but I guess since Jimmy didn't have anyone to help him mentor the sessions they didn't want to show them. The group performance medley was good, particularly the harmonies. This group's voices blend much better than the last few seasons' groups did. I didn't like "Fat Bottomed Girls" being sung in the group performance and by Philip. It should've been one or the other. I was so glad they brought back the clip packages of the contestants ragging on each other. That was a big hit last season and it really helped show the personalities of everyone. It did the same this season and I think this group needed that. The only ones showing any personality have been Skylar and, in recent weeks, Hollie and Philip. Jessica is slowly showing more but still not enough. This was useful because I want to see more interaction between the contestants like we got last season. I think Skylar, Hollie, and Jessica all came off looking good. Elise's package came off like the others don't like her while Philip's and Joshua's were bland. Philip also came off obnoxious too in how he talked about people. I was cool with his joking around but the way he said what he said rubbed me wrong. Anyway, on to the performances: Jessica: I'm STUNNED they placed her first in performance order. Interestingly enough, she has never had the pimp slot. Given how overhyped she was, that is shocking. To me, given her the first slot and the way the judges treated her comes off to me like maybe they've jumped ship and are on the Skylar bandwagon now. It's weird because they are not hyping her as much since they saved her and their praise of her tonight was rather faint. Look at what they've been doing with Joshua. Their hype for him has not changed. However, they've increased their hype of Skylar. Unless the judges are hoping that by overhyping Skylar and laying off with Jessica they can ensure Jessica fans keep voting for her...it's just strange. I felt Jessica did ok on a tough song in "Bohemian Rhapsody." Anytime the "Queen" theme is in play, I always wonder who will dare take that song on. I'm glad it was her because I doubt anyone else could've done a decent job on it. She could've done better. I didn't feel her connect enough emotionally but she sung it well. The "three heads" floating on the screen in back of her was creepy too. Her second performance of "Dance With My Father" was very good IMO. First time in weeks I felt her emotionally connected. When I heard someone was singing this, I never expected her. Good choice. She did great. I think that performance and her story about her father will help get her some votes. Will it be enough to overcome being 1st in performance order? I think it will be enough to keep her from going home but I could see her in the bottom 3, to be honest. Skylar: I'm a big fan of her's but I thought she took a step back tonight after a few weeks of upping her game. Her performance of "Show Must Go On" was average, which is good considering I thought she would struggle with singing Queen. She did shout a bit at the end. I don't mind shouting a little but, at the end, it sticks out more and hurts the performance more. Her second performance was ok. It didn't so much to showcase her. It was a pretty safe choice. I don't like her or anyone hiding behind a guitar even if she doesn't use it at all. To me, it just holds her and others back. I felt she was more laid back in her performance quality. She didn't work the stage much and that is her trademark so that hurt her a bit too. I think she will be ok (even if Dialidol has her in trouble...that site always seems to underestimate her so I think she gets alot of text votes). She has that country fanbase and seems to have tapped in to enough of the young girl vote. Also, I think she will get Colton's fans. They were close and her comment about her bracelet will help with that too. The judges are clearly behind her 100% now. I know she went second but I think that was just because they are trying to position others they want to stay in solid positions. Although, like I said, I would not be surprised if maybe this is reverse psychology and they are trying to get Skylar fans to be complacent while they are getting Jessica fans to rally behind her. We'll see. Joshua: Rough night for him IMO. He does not do uptempo well at all. He proved that a few weeks ago with the Bruno Mars song and ended up in the bottom 3. I can see that happening again tomorrow with him going home (especially since DialIdol tends to overestimate him). His first performance, which was uptempo, was a mess. He sounded like he had something in his throat. He was pitchy and all over the place. He just looked uncomfortable. Hell, the group performance practically predicted who would have trouble with Queen and who wouldn't and Joshua proved that in the group song and in his individual performance. His second performance was better but I still feel like he screeches way too much and that he lets his emotion get the best of him when he gets too much into the song, causing him to be way too sharp on alot of notes. The judge's giving him a standing ovation for every performance has gotten beyond ridiculous too. I was glad Skylar pointed out it happened 12 times. It's demeaned the standing ovations now to the point where they have no value. Joshua could piss on stage and they would stand for him. To me, it doesn't even come off like they want to stand but they do because they know he doesn't have enough fans to get him through so they have to overhype him, especially in light of his bottom 3 appearance two weeks ago (and earlier in the season). There is no way he's deserved the standing ovations he's gotten (he's probably deserved only 1 of the 12, really). I mean, every week Ryan mentions him being at the finale to him. It's going to backfire and I feel it's either this week or next. It's just too much. It makes me wonder if maybe I'm wrong and they aren't trying to pull him through but, instead, are trying to ensure he goes home sooner. It's way too blatant what the judges and Ryan are doing with him. Anyway, I think he's bottom 3 and possibly going home tomorrow. Elise: She was in her element with her Queen song. Good song choice and a solid performance. I do feel it could've been better if she threw herself into it more. The judges talked of this last week and I agree...she struggles with the editing of her songs. She's so used to having to perform the whole song for her gigs with her band that she thinks she has more time than she does and the pacing of her singing is always weird. It's like the beginning of the song, which is usually the most underwhelming part of a song, she stays in too long and she only gives you a taste of the best part (the climax). She needs to improve on that and making her songs flow better. Her second performance was a complete WTF. Hendrix is a rough choice, especially that song, because so much of it is all about the guitar play. It doesn't showcase vocals at all and that hurt her big time. I think Steven was stupid in saying the song was unfamiliar. To me, the issue was that it wasn't a "singer's song." There was no chance of telling a story with her voice and showing range with that choice and that hurt her. Also, I've given her props for defending herself to the judges respectfully but this week she started slipping. After her second performance judge's critiques, you could hear her say "I don't care" and I think she said "Listen to J-Lo" in response to Randy's negative comments. Jennifer praised her and was getting fans riled up so I guess Elise was trying to rub that in Randy's face. She better be careful. I think Elise is this year's Haley only Jennifer is trying to be coy in her hatred of her by throwing in the occasional defense of her while Randy is always harsh with her it seems, much like he was on Haley. I think Elise is in danger, especially because of the second song. She could go. Philip: Wow, I've been hard on him and tonight shows why. He's always bland and sucks the life out of songs and he did just that to "Fat Bottomed Girls." I know what he said about moving around and not being someone who interacts with the fans but come on now. He needs to do that. His vocal was all karaoke on that first song. His second performance was just plain boring and weird. You would think Dave Matthews would be a good choice but it came off so damn sleepy and flat...I felt like I was sitting in a coffeehouse where everyone was high on something (including the singer) and no one knew what the hell was going on. What a terrible performance. Nothing challenging, no range displayed AT ALL. I mean, come on now. At least Scotty last year tried at times to push himself. If anyone SHOULD go home, it's Philip. He won't but this may be the week he gets a bottom 3 scare (or maybe not because his fanbase may get scared as Philip is getting bashed quite a bit). Even the judges struggled with what to say to him tonight. I know he has health issues and all but you can't just get by without challenging yourself. The moment with him, Ryan, and Julianne was cool though (glad she got on camera although bet she hated being on camera without makeup!). Hollie: One thing is clear now...they are building a redemption arc for Hollie. I think her performances last week gave them that idea just in case one of the girls they like goes so that they can have her replace whichever girl they like goes. Her first performance was ok. I don't think it was as bad as the judges made it seem. She did have a moment where the emotion got to her and she lost a few notes but others do that regularly (especially Joshua) without bashing so that is the usual judge's bias. Her second performance was STELLAR. One of the moments of the season by far and her best performance of the season. She had some good ones early on but what made this special was the situation (her needing a big performance in the pimp slot) and her emotionally connecting. She wasn't doing that a few weeks ago. She did tonight. It helped that the song was something that described her experiences right now. I've always felt like if your a teen girl on a singing show, you should sing "The Climb." It reflects every young girl's feelings and experiences and it's a song that is age appropriate and allows you to relate to girls your age. Also, it's easy to blow the original version away because Miley Cyrus is not a good singer. Twice on Idol alone (Lauren last year and now Hollie this year) the song has gotten better treatment. I actually think Skylar would've been smart to pick this but I think it works better for Hollie given the circumstances and that made it more of a moment. Hollie could end up being like Haley in terms of the comeback story and maybe reaching top 3 (Elise has the Haley attitude but Hollie may get the actual votes and have the better performances). She's just so rootable now. It was so cute how she jumped up and down when the judge's stood for her. Nice moment. I think that performance saved her for at least another week. She may still be bottom 3 but I don't see her being eliminated. if she stays until top 3 though, I think that means Jessica doesn't make top 3 because I'm convinced these two are splitting votes. So, it was a pretty solid night. I was expecting worse given the first half was a Queen theme and that has proven in the past to be a rough night. For some, they should be happy they got second songs that were of their choice because that may have saved some of them. The judge's had their worst night of the season though IMO (which says alot). They were just rambling and all over the place. Their bias always shows but they came off out of it tonight. Ok...prediction time... SHOULD BE BOTTOM 3: Philip, Elise, Joshua SHOULD GO: Philip WILL BE BOTTOM 3: Skylar (second performance slot and actual performances may result in another scare for her), Elise, Joshua WILL GO: Joshua |

That isn't a bad idea LOL. I think her biggest issue with voters is that she came off robotic and didn't show any emotion or personality. She's trying now but it may be too late as it seems many have strong fanbases now so she basically has to hope enough of the "sway" voters come her way. I watched the show back and I have to say I'm so glad Elise was still here for the Queen theme. I'm also glad the show recognized that Elise and Skylar were the only two who could really handle Queen stuff, particularly in that medley, so they gave them the heavy lifting in that medley. I mean, both girls were the focal point of that medley (especially Elise) and they did great because it suits both of them and their singing/performance quality. Elise just looked so comfortable. She was having the time of her life up there with Queen. She actually came off that way all night. You could tell she doesn't care anymore and is just doing what she wants to. She knows she's on borrowed time and, to be honest, she at least picked songs that suit her style last night, even if the second song was not good for this point in the competition. Kudos to Skylar too on fighting through her hoarse voice. That explains why she sounded off last night to me. DialIdol's numbers changed ALOT last night once the West Coast got done voting. Skylar was last and Joshua first but things changed to Elise being last and Holly being first. I think we can say now for sure that Hollie won't be going home (she probably gets a decent amount of text votes) but she still may end up bottom 3. Also, Skylar should likely be safe too. She seems to always get underestimated on Dialidol (probably alot of text/online votes) so, with her not being last, I think she's safe too. I'm thinking Elise or Joshua tonight. I would love Philip to go and he probably deserves to but, aside from a bottom 3 appearance, I don't see it happening. |
