I am a Dave Matthew fan and I have a few of his albums in my collection, if you ask me he is darn good singer. I haven't been that impressed this season and Steven sucks as a judge and I find Jenni from the block voice annoying. All three judges seem to be praising Jessica and Joshua to hog heaven. I personally like Joshua voice, but don't know if I would buy any of these people albums. There is a disconnect with the singers for me this year, in season past I have connected to Carrie Underwood, David Cook, and Daughtry, but something is lacking regardless of how good they are.
I don't think he'd be as good outside the context of his band, singing his music. JMHO though. I actually like quite a few of the band's songs.

As far as all-stars, I think it would have to be a charity special type deal. Or they'd have to pull from the pool of contestants who never made it after Idol. There are quite a few I'd like to hear again (mostly Carly Smithson- I loved her and think she got screwed over).

Agree about Carly. She should have gone farther her season. I actually saw her last month in Vegas in the Viva Elvis show at the Aria. She sang two songs and sounded amazing. Just stinks that you can't buy the songs she performed from the show.

I think Joshua could win. They've really been praising him to the high heavens!
I really think the judges should not have been praising him so much. It's been overkill! I do think I know why they really seem to like Joshua though. Joshua has a good voice but he needs to learn the art of nuance; the screaming isn't needed in every song he sings. I think the judges are drawn to him by more than just his voice. Joshua has wonderful stage presence and great showmanship as well and those things are as important in this competition as a good voice is.

IDOL! Joshua Ledet and Hollie Kavanaugh SUCK. Just because you wanna like them all the time, doesn't mean they can sing a song, NEITHER had the tune to the songs they sung. Anyone ever hearing Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" should know that Josh did NOT sing that song IN TUNE! Same goes for Hollie with Journey's classic "Faithfully"!

I have seen Josh Groban do that song live many times and nobody ever comes close to him.

Phillip and Jessica definitely showing they should be the FINAL 2 tonight.
Loved Phillip singing "Volcano", never ever heard of the song, but still loved it.

I agree that was definitely Joshua Ledet's best performance to date with James Brown's "It's a Man's World". I didn't want him in the Top 3, but he's definitely earned the Top 3 after that performance. It's buh-bye Hollie Kavanagh. She's by far the WORST in the bunch tonight!

I like Hollie, but I think as she gets older, experiences more in her life she be able to put emotion behind her songs.

My Rankings
(1) TIED
Phillip Phillips
Jessica Sanchez
---------------every performance of theirs tonight has been AWESOME, Excellent and OUTSTANDING. Jessica's "And I Am Telling You" rivals Jennifer Hudson's imho.

(3) Joshua Ledet ----- his "A Man's World" saved his ass tonight imho, his best performance by far. Rest was same ol' Joshua "Mantasia"

GOING HOME!!!
Hollie Kavanagh!

Jennifer's hair looked like how Denise Huxtable's looked on the first season of The Cosby Show.

Joshua blew the last note on "Man's World," imho. But it's hard to listen to it after watching Juliet slay it on The Voice a couple weeks ago.

Jessica is tempting fate with that song choice (the second one).

Vocally they're all fine, but none really blow me away. It's kind of like decent-to-excellent karaoke. I'm not feeling the originality or even the emotional conviction from them.

Well, let me start by saying that the themes tonight blew. They've blown all season. Next season, they need to do what they did last season and go back to broader themes. Things need to be more contemporary and the themes this year skewed way too old.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way, let me start by saying I loved the Julianne/Ryan interaction. So cute. I totally thought he was about to propose LOL.

Tonight's show really should not have been 2 hours though. Way too much filler. I mean, we got stuff tonight that we normally got on results night (group performance, contestants seeing the sneak preview for a new film footage). I mean, the filler was good but come on now. Last season at this point, performance shows were 90 minutes. I know FOX has nothing else but 2 hours is ridiculous at this point. When you have to use the filler you did tonight, you have issues.

Ok, now to the performances:

Round 1: The theme was pointless. I mean, it wasn't even a theme. The contestants could basically do what they want almost so whatever.

Philip: Blah. Same old with him. Lacked energy as usual and took the life out of the song. Nothing special at all.

Hollie: Enjoyed it. Not the best song choice IMO but she made it work. She hit the high notes and it all came off really well generally. Not a moment though and she needed to have 2 moments tonight, especially since last week she had two moments and still ended up bottom 2.

Joshua: I'm guessing someone told Joshua not to screech anymore because the last two weeks (aside from his last performance tonight) he's avoided it. I like it but I do think he held back too much on "You Raise Me Up." I don't mind the song choice but you need to KILL this song when you sing it and it was way too reserved, especially from him. The choir did more with it than him. It's weird because this is a song you could see him having a moment on and connecting with but because he held back too much, it fell flat. This is an issue because so many know this song and expect so much, especially since better renditions of it have been done on other shows.

Jessica: Did not care for the performance. The singing was ok but nothing special. She's been sort of like Philip the last few weeks except at least she has more energy in her performances, has a better voice, and usually has at least one performance a week that is stellar. However, she also seems to have one performance a week lately that is forgettable and this was it. She needs to up her game and also needs to be more contemporary. Jimmy talks so much about her coming off "old" so why does she continue to steer away from contemporary?

After Round 1, I ranked them: 1.) Hollie, 2.) Jessica, 3.) Joshua, 4.) Philip

The duets both weren't very good IMO. Both song choices were weird and the performances were awkward. The girls were better but not by much. It's weird because Hollie got the high notes and Jessica was on the quieter side. You would expect the other way around (especially given how you would think they would want to pimp Jessica) or a better balance. Philip and Joshua had better chemistry performance-wise this week and I thought it was hilarious when they both were swinging in back of Hollie and Jessica. I've been loving seeing the personalities come out of everyone in recent weeks. It's about time. Should've happened early in the season. Jessica is even joking around more now.

So, I rank the duets: 1.) Jessica/Hollie, 2.) Philip/Joshua

The group performance was better than either duet. I actually enjoyed everyone on that. Good song choice and nice performance. Still no need for it tonight but I digress.

Ok, Round 2...yet another theme which was dumb because they could basically do anything they want by lying and saying the song they picked was something they would write. Jessica even pretty much ignored the theme and picked a song she simply wanted to sing because she wanted to SLAY it (which she did) and have a moment (which she did need). That irritates me a little as I would like them all to go with the theme but if you perform amazing (which she did), then I can live with it.

Philip: No one can ever say I'm not fair. When something is good, I will admit it, even if it comes from someone who's not usually my cup of tea. This was a very good song choice from Philip and a FANTASTIC performance. I love the set up with the background singer, musician, and lighting. The song suited him and he looked like he was TRYING. This was different. This felt like someone trying to win. I felt him on this. I felt a connection and he looked like someone aspiring to be a star for once. THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Now, he needs to do this every time out. I'm not sold on him yet but, if he doesn't go home tomorrow, I can at least justify his staying beyond this week now. Jimmy was right. He needed this. I think Jimmy and co. need to keep pushing him because he was trashed last week and it got results this week.

Hollie: This wasn't as bad as the judges made it seem but it wasn't good enough. She needed two moments tonight and her first performance was solid and her second was meh. I think it's obvious Jimmy no longer likes her and I think his warning her not to "oversing" hurt her. I actually would've went for it more. Like Joshua on his first performance, she showed too much restraint. She had some good moments but her bread and butter is high notes and awesome choruses. She didn't do that here because she was told not to oversing so I felt bad for her. To me, it wasn't the emotional connection. She was about to cry on that stage even before getting blasted by the judges. It was simply the fact that the performance wasn't grand enough. I actually think the song choice hurt and limited her too because, even if she wasn't restrained, the song doesn't lend itself to the kind of moment she needed. Jimmy and the judges may pull her through again this week though. Every time they've been way to hard on her, she's made it through. You would think they would learn from past seasons, especially last season. I mean, Randy even pulled a trick from last year and mentioned during Jessica's critique how everyone but Hollie had a good performance in round 2. If Hollie says, the judges and Jimmy have no one but themselves to blame.

Joshua: AWESOME performance and great song choice because this is one song that growling and screeching works on because it suits the performance. The song really suited him. Loved it. I've really come around to him the last couple weeks and I'm glad that he didn't restrain himself here, assuming they asked him to like I think they might've of late. This is a performance that deserved a standing ovation. Fantastic.

Jessica: I KNEW she would sing what she did. Even before I read spoilers, I knew at some point this season she would do this song if she stayed long enough. She's a big Beyonce fan, it was in "Dreamgirls," it's such a "diva" song and she's a diva in training, and I feel like she's wanted to just let loose and hasn't since she got saved. She admitted after singing the song she let everything out and, boy, did she. A fantastic, show-stopping performance that IMO is the best performance of this entire season. The emotion she had (she always connects so that is never an issue), the situation (it being top 4), and her finally going last (hard to believe given how pimped she was earlier in the season, this is her first time performing last)...all of it factored in to make this truly great. Totally deserving of a standing ovation. The song still continues the trend of making her come off older but she sang the song so well that it doesn't matter in this instance. She NEEDED this, especially with how inconsistent she's been of late. She should cruise into next week based on this.

So, Round 2 rankings: 1.) Jessica, 2.) Joshua, 3.) Philip, 4.) Hollie

The top 4 elimination almost always gives us a shock and I think we will get one once again. The recipe is there for one and I think the most vulnerable is Joshua. The performance order was clearly designed to once again knock Philip or Hollie out with them going early in the show in the so called "trouble slots" and having to do duets with Joshua and Jessica, whom can easily overshadow them both. Take all that and add in the judge's and Jimmy's treatment of Hollie (especially Randy praising every one big her in Round 2), the season-long overhype of Jessica and Joshua, and also take into account the fact that Joshua had a rough first performance and his second performance, as great as it was, got overshadowed by Jessica going last and having the moment she did. Joshua could easily be forgotten and you have to think complacency will happen with him before Jessica as she already had it happen the week she got eliminated and then saved. He's been bottom 3 twice (proving he's vulnerable) but never in any more danger than that. Philip's fanbase is clearly strong and Jessica got the pimp slot and had a moment. If people rally to Hollie like I think they will and if you also throw in the fact that Skylar's fans will likely jump to her BFF Hollie, that could be enough to save Hollie and knock someone else out. Joshua seems like the most likely candidate. Yes, he and Hollie are as close as he and Skylar but that could play into this as many of Joshua's voters may spend too much time voting to help Hollie instead of pushing him through, thinking he may not need the votes as much. Should be interesting. I just think the obvious person (Hollie) won't go home tomorrow.

DialIdol (which was completely wrong last week in that it showed Skylar safe and she went home) currently has the rankings as Jessica being completely safe, Hollie in second, Philip in third, and Joshua in 4th. Take it for what it's worth but I can buy these results. If this is the case, I think Joshua is definitely gone, especially since I think the other three (especially Philip) get many more text and online votes than him.

Anyway, who would I send home: I would still send home Philip despite his great second performance because it's only one great performance and the others have done better over the long haul IMO. My bottom 3 would be Joshua, Hollie, and Philip with Hollie and Philip bottom 2 and Philip going home although you could justify Hollie going too.

You already know who I think will go home pretty much. I think it will be Joshua with Hollie being bottom 2 with him (assuming they reveal a bottom 2 as they sometimes don't at this stage).

I would love both girls to get through tomorrow so that way we know for sure one girl will at least make the finale.

Another think that is against my favorite Joshua is I believe since Ruben won there hasn't been another guy that got pass top 4, I believe last year I forget is name went home top 4 as well. Does anyone remember his name maybe Mike? I really enjoyed Phillip's second song as well and I was really surprised at how much I liked it. Hollei had the worst night out of the four even though I didn't think it was to bad. The judges really showed that they don't want her in the final two three at all. They basically did what they did Kris's year, and haley's year as well you were good but the other three were better, the other three should be top 3, if your going to vote for Hollie vote for her for this performance not that one. Ya da Ya da. this week we get David Cook not week Adam Lambert since his CD comes out a few days before. He anounced yesterday that FYE went plantium so he might get his plaque next week as well.

I still just don't like Jessica. I don't deny that the girl can sing, but her personality irks me. She seems to only shine during ballads too.

I loved Phillip's second performance and I am not familiar with that song. It was cool. I liked Joshua's second song too, he gets so into it!

Hollie was alright, but not her best.

News Corp. frets about 'American Idol'
The iconic show has been a huge moneymaker but is losing viewers fast.

News Corp. (NWSA +4.85%), which reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings Wednesday, is worried that "American Idol" is running out of gas.

Ratings for the 11-year-old reality show have been down by double digits this year. Speaking to investors, COO Chase Carey said he isn't ready to hit the panic button quite yet. He has made similar comments before.

The show is averaging a 5.4 rating this season, down from 8 a year ago, and may lose its top spot on the list of most-watched prime-time shows on broadcast television to "Saturday Night Live," according to MediaPost.

"It's a big profitable No. 1 show," Carey said. "It was down more than we would've liked this year. But it's a big valuable franchise and makes a lot of money. We certainly think we've got a lot of life left in it, and I think our challenge for next year is to put some fresh energy" into it.

What Carey meant by "fresh energy" isn't clear. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were hired to do just that and have failed. News Corp. is probably eager to restructure their contracts. To this casual fan, the show hasn't been the same since the departure of Simon Cowell and to a lesser extent Paula Abdul. Moreover, the contestants on "The Voice" are far more talented than their counterparts on "American Idol."

Musical aesthetics aside, investors should start to worry as well. Television networks sell advertising based on guarantees to advertisers about viewership from particular demographic groups. If broadcasters fail to meet those targets, they have to provide "make goods," essentially free commercial time.

Whether "American Idol" has reached that threshold is difficult to say. During the quarter, News Corp.'s television business was a weak spot. Operating income fell to $171 million, and, excluding the absence of the Super Bowl, lower ratings at the show offset higher advertising rates.

"American Idol" reportedly makes more than $7 million per 30 minutes, by far the most of any television show. That translates into roughly $730 million or so in annual advertising revenue. It's not a cheap program to put on. The judges and host Ryan Seacrest are probably making more than $10 million each. Seacrest's future at "American Idol" came into question after he recently signed a contract with Comcast's (CMCSA +1.58%) NBC Universal that enables him to contribute to Super Bowl, Olympics and presidential election coverage.

In the coming months, Carey and his boss, Rupert Murdoch, are going to have to decide how much longer News Corp. can squeeze money out of "American Idol." The show is dragging down ratings of the entire network, which, season to date, has attracted an average viewership among people age 18 to age 49 of 3.24 million, down 13% from a year earlier. That is still the most among the broadcast networks, Media Post says.

"American Idol" will survive for now because it is the least painful option available to News Corp.

Watching this mess tonight to see David Cook. The teases about who's at the bottom re-guarding votes is so stupid yet it happens year after year.
