The country guy was really bad. I wanted to like him (I love country music), but I wasn't impressed. I think part of it might have been the song choice. I didn't like Reed either. He ruined "Moves Like Jagger". I did like him before tonight though. |

LOL, are we talking about the same Haley here? I was actually referring to Haley Reinhart from last season. I haven't seen tonight's episode yet, but I saw a clip of her performance, and she was good. I like this season's Haley just fine, LoL. |

If not for Jessica, Elise and Hollie, tonight would've been a total wash. Is this really the best batch of talent they could find this season? |

I will comment more once they knock it down to the top 13 tomorrow (there are just way too many to comment on right now) but I think the talent is pretty solid. This is the first year I can say that they didn't really screw anyone over that should've been performing live. The judges did a good job. The only one that maybe should've been there was David Leathers Jr but he's 17 and could use another year to grow and develop more. The talent level is definitely on par with last season, if not better. The difference IMO is that there are more guys this year with potential, much more than expected. However, there are some awesome girls who can actually win because they have the vocals and the looks. That is the difference between the guys and girls this year. I think the girls who are good are more commercial than the guys that are good. That makes all the difference. It's usually those who are more commercial that last so that is a good sign for the girls. I will be happy as long as Colton, Joshua, Philip, Aaron, Adam or Jeremy (I like both their voices), and Eben (I like him and the show needs a young one on the guy side) make it for the guys and Jessica, Hollie, Skylar, Shannon, and probably Haley make it for the girls. That isn't to say there aren't others who were good. The others either annoy me or IMO just won't end up cutting it as a relevant artist. I do have to laugh at how the judges always seem to actually judge the girls more than the guys. |

Oh and for the Haley haters...no one this year with top these performances, they were IMO, two of the best in idol history: Edited by Mitchapalooza, Mar 1 2012, 01:39 PM.

I thought Brielle sounded a lot like Haley last night. I think Haley is better though. My favorites last night were Hollie, Elise, and Jessica. Jen and Shannon were decent too. Baylie was TERRIBLE. |

You know I LOVED Haley last season. I wanted either her or Lauren or her or James in the finale last year. However, I have to disagree about how no one this season can top either of those performances. Yes, they are among the best I've seen on Idol but there are 3-4 girls ALONE who I think can give a performance just as good if not better. That isn't a knock on Haley because she was fantastic but this season does have talent. Depending on what happens tonight with the voting and wild card selections, this has the potential to be a much better top 13 than last year since it's a much deeper talent pool. There are easily more stronger guys and girls than there were last season. Last season, at this point, there were really only 5 that I thought had potential to win it. This season, at this point, I see 7-8. Watching it all back, I think the girls that go through have to be Skylar, Shannon, Jessica, Hollie, and Jen. I would then either make Bailie (she wasn't good but she's better than she showed and she's commercial as hell) or Haley (there are way too many girls with similar names like this LOL) one of the wild cards. Hallie Day has just too cold a personality but she has the voice and look. The guys that go through have to be Colton, Joshua, Philip, Eben (I know he wasn't good but, again, he's better than that and he's young and commercial), and DeAndre. The two wild cards (since I think two will be guys as wild cards) can be Aaron and probably Adam. I'm only going with Adam because he's awesome vocally and the others are either way too generic (Chase), annoying despite being talented (Reed, Heejun), or are bland and won't sell at all despite being talented (Jeremy). Elise better make the Top 6 girls...Phoenix you are way off putting people like Haley/Shannon/Bailie ahead of her. The top 4 girls with talent are Jessica/Elise/Hollie/Jen...then throw in Skylar and one of Shannon/Hallie to round out the top 6. You are right on the money for guys, except for freaking Eben who absolutely CRUCIFIED Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain"...the 2nd worst performance of the two nights (after Bailie, BEYOND PITIFUL "Amazed") and DeAndre (wow he sucks). Oh and DeAndre...the 80's called and they want Milli Vanilli's hair back! He is THE most overrated by the judges...his falsetto is HORRIBLE...I cringed through his entire performance and then my chin hit the floor when he was met with such high remarks from the judges..I mean REALLY JUDGES...COME ON! That was pretty, but she doesn't stand a chance, imho, especially if the judges do what they did last year and pick on the people who could actually sing, giving the impression they were actually worse. I think it'll come down to Jennifer Lopez, how she chooses to critique. I think it's Phillip's to lose. Everyone else should just play for exposure and then followup with something good. |

That was hilarious! I loved how the rest of the room took her side too and told the other girl to basically chill out. I just want to clarify...while I think people like Bailie and Eben are better than they showed, I'm by no means suggesting that they are better than people like Jessica, Colton, Joshua, Hollie, Shannon, Skylar, etc. The thing is that I'm looking at this from the perspective of who is relevant and will sell and also help the show ratings-wise. Bailie and Eben would and we all know the judges like to put people through for those reasons. I also disagree about Shannon. I like Elise but, to me, she's very limited in what she can do. Her voice sounds like it strains for me at times depending on the song and I felt that happened last night. I know she said it was because she was about to cry and pulled back but I still feel like it happens regardless. Shannon is young, versatile, and is the type of singer that usually wins a show like this. She's got the image and has the vocals to back it up. She's going to have to work hard to overcome some of the others but I think she's definitely one of the dark horses, especially since she's been hyped quite a bit. |
