Gone, But Not Forgotten!

I am excited to see headway with this SL. Finally, a sneak peak into Jack's tortured soul. Looks like they are going to have him deal with his suppressed emotions and MA can do an excellent, angry, Jack. I just hope they don't drag this SL with huge gaps. His last session with Marlena seems like forever ago.. too much time has past for fans to keep track and make it meaningful for his character's current situation. I 100% agree. I am happy to finally see this, but the PTSD must be addressed more than once a month. IMO this is the most interesting, compelling sl, and it's disjointed since Jack is rarely ever seen, and when he is, it's about Jennifer. I hope TPTB realize how compelling this sl is. |

I'm sorry, Sals4! I really enjoyed discussions with you and others on DR. But I can't even read previews/recaps anymore. It's all so repetitive. I would totally be a fan of Jack and anybody else - but TPTB aren't interested in that. MA hasn't shot any more scenes with Nicole or Billie. He only has 1-2 episodes/week guarantee. I honestly don't think Jack will get a story besides being window dressing for Jennifer, and sometimes Abby. This episode will be awesome. His other 3 episodes dealing with PTSD were awesome - cookie date, cabin flashback, Marlena therapy. But 3 worthy episodes in 4 months? Come on. I can't continue reading these boards in the hopes that there might be 1-2 episodes I want to watch per month. MarDar has killed my enjoyment for watching any of the characters on DOOL. But I see a lot of excitement/hope on this thread, which is great! I don't want to rain on other's parade. I really am looking forward to this one episode. |

Thanks for posting! I always enjoy hearing from Matt, he's such a gentleman and a class act. I really wish they would dig deeper into Jack's PTSD. Like others have mentioned before, it's time to see angry, pissed off Jack now. I'm ready to see him lash out at Queen Jennifer and push her ass far away. It may be the only chance TIIC have of rebuilding these two. |

Always great to hear from Matt. He's been terribly wasted, seeing him once a week just isn't enough. Also it's time for him to completely start a new life away from Jen. Can't wait to watch this. |

I love that last line, too. I would love to see "dark Jack" emerge from this. Being "good Jack," and loving Jennifer hasn't been working in his favor, for like, 20 years, now. |

lol. Seems like so many fans have raised their white flags and have surrendered defeat at the hands of KC. As long as the TPTB remember to let Jack out to play, we should get atleast 12 watchable epis this year. I'm such an optimist!! |

Yup. I'm just hoping they go there. Thing is, Jack has hardly been on at all. They plant stuff that might lead to that, but then we don't see him. So if it does eventually get there, will there even be any continuity to it? The fact is, the show is boring, to me at least. That is because the show fails to create characters or relationships that I can care about. I'm following it now only because I still love characters who were created many years ago. One of them is no longer anything like the character I used to love, and I almost never see the other. Keeping my fingers crossed that this episode is a good one at least. |

Then again, there are two other stories happening on that same day, so let's hope the Marlena/Matt scenes aren't cut too short. As we know, the cabin scenes were only about 6 or 7 minutes total. I expect this "Days Gives Tribute to America's Veterans" episode to be about the same. A clue is that the promos don't even mention it. It's just another example of their "hit-and-run storytelling." They have a good idea, and then proceed to ruin it with having it go by so quickly that if you blink you miss it (with no build-up and no follow-through). Conversely, they take their NOT-so-good ideas and drag them out endlessly and repetitively. :shame: |

I'm convinced that Matt has filmed more scenes then they have shown. I believed they edited out a lot of scenes to preserve what little is left of Jennifer. |

Wouldn't it make more sense to cut more Jennifer scenes if that's the case? Because I'm sure leaving in a scene of Jennifer crying her eyes out because the guy who just dumped her (for the 100th time) has decided to leave town for a short time doesn't help preserve her in the least - just the opposite infact. |

Jack=Damaged. These spoilers really leaves nothing to the imagination, when describing Jack's emotional and pyschological state. A damaged Jack, is bound to retreat, feeling responsible and unworthy of friendship, family, love, etc. I quite enjoyed the falsity of Jack's demeanor, since his return. This spoiler is written in a very serious tone, as it should be, with all the sensitivity around PTSD, and I'm hoping TPTB, take a new approach to showing us Jack's damage. I will not respect TPTB, if they just sweep this issue under the rug and move on to say that Jack is better now and managing well. We barely got a glimpse of his struggle, 3x (Cabin, Marlena & Abby's Kidnapping). |

Well lets say they filmed more PTSD-related scenes, if they were to show those then it would show the audience just how bad off Jack is and just how much he has suffered. This in itself would further harm Jennifer as she has not been there for him or tried to help him other than to suggest therapy. Also there may have been more Jennifer/Dan scenes that were left in the cutting room. Like the goodbye scenes seemed to be missing some dialogue. Though I agree, the crying and running after him was a bit much. |

Well yeah I see your point but if they're going to write a story about PTSD, dropping scenes so Jennifer doesn't look bad is pretty irresponsible (not that I should be surprised). But still even if that's not what happened, a 40+ yr old woman blubbering like a teenager because her boyfriend (of a few months) decided to take a trip - not to mention the running after him - really doesn't help her cause. I can't imagine any dialogue that could've made her look more pathetic than she did after that (not that I've seen it but it sounds bad). |

I'll enjoy this, but I've got few expectations that these writers will take the PTSD SL much further - it's far easier to limit Matt Ashford to one day per week and concentrate instead on the resident airhogs Daniel/Melanie/EJ/Sami etc. :soapbox: Jack getting to unleash a bucketfull of anger on Saint Jennifer - ain't ever gonna happen on this show. |

Prepare to be disappointed, because I think that 's exactly what they're going to do (sweep it under the rug). Why do I think that? Because we've all said we want to see more of it. Therefore, true to their typical fashion, they'll drop it. Even if they pick up on fan response and decide to do more, we won't see for months down the line given the time lag. Matt's only on once a week or so anyway, so ... Of course, whatever TPTB decide, that doesn't mean that Matt won't try to slip things into the subtext of scenes. Regardless of whether TPTB forget about Jack's condition, we can be sure (especially after reading this interview) that Matt won't forget. |

Finally! I'm looking forward to the show having Jack deal with his real issues ... ones that don't involve Jenn and Daniel. However, experience with Days and their writing and s/l's for 'real-life' important social issues usually fall flat because they don't give them enough time and energy. But safe boxes ... they get lots of time! |
