This episode was totally awesome! It was a standalone epi, it really doesn't follow the triangle SL at all. It's all about Jack, thank God! IMO, this epi is not a rewrite, except maybe for the point I mention below.

I was elated that Jack referred to the importance of time, and that it was what kept him sane. Knowing what day it was, kept him going as he hoped to return home again one day. When Jack 1st returned to Salem, I remember he told Jennifer it was her, that kept him alive and going in that cave, etc., she was the one that saved him. In this epi, TPTB, didn't include this in Jack's cave reflections to the group.

IMO, the rewrites are all going to be about making MR & Jennifer look better. In the viewers eyes, Jennifer is in hell right now, fans or not, her performance, dialogue and treatment of Jack was intolerable, on so many levels. It was idiotic and nonsensical. Now, Jennifer needs major damage control, to even come close to getting viewer support and acceptance, with or without playing along side Jack.
I do not want Jennifer's behavior whitewashed. The only way Jennifer will ever look better in my eyes is if she were to take a swift fall and face her own flaws. Until Jennifer accepts responsibility for her part in her failed marriage she's on my shit list.

This episode is a stand alone but I do believe there will be consequences for Jack. Remember what Matt said about Jack fighting his emotions and dormant emotions coming to the surface? I want Jack to accept that Jennifer failed him yet again.

Love the line about his pen being his weapon of choice. Reminds me of the line he used to describe himself and Harper "one wields a sword, the other wields a pen but they're both the same" something like that...

Was really wonderful. All of the men and women in this episode were incredible. The episode was very powerful. I'm so glad they chose MA as the vessel to raise awareness on what these amazing men and women endure and some brave enough to go back. Jack as always made me cry. I do feel that Jennifer came across even more cold and selfish in her absence today then she does when she actually appears. You really came to realize what Jack really needs that he never got a shred of from his life partner of 20 years. She's been too busy chasing and hurting for Daniel. The part that was hard to watch was when he said "I kept scaring the hell out of my wife...my ex wife..cause I kept freaking out" SO WHAT!! she just buries her head in the sand cause you're suffering!?!?!?!But he also said "I want to be a man who's wife WANTS to be with him. Which could be interpreted in a couple ways. Either he feels she doesn't want to be with the man he used to be before he left...or that she doesn't want to be with the wounded version of him since his return. Which would imply that she is abandoning him when he needs her most....which is the sentiment I really hope Jack is acknowledging. Because ultimately when he overcomes this...he really won't want her anymore...cause if he doesn't have her support now...when will he ever need it?. Another thought I had was (Hoping) was that maybe this push for Daniel and Jennfer on MR part is because maybe Jack really is gonna start to move on without her...and maybe the rewrites are gonna produce a new love interest for Jack. (I really liked that marine today) Someone understanding and can give him some real emotion and support. I came to realize that it wasn't necessarily JnJ..it was the Jack angst I feel in love with.

IA, but Jack needs to change his tune. He still wants Jennifer to want him, be with him, and after today, he sounds like he'll settle just for a hug from her. He wants human touch and compassion. He has had zero comfort, from anyone that knows him. When they see Jack, they avoid him, which I am sure was done on purpose for his SL.

If you know Jack, he's never done well with physical contact, so when you see him embrace those that come to embrace him today, you can see how much of an affect it has on him. When we say Marlena hugs him, I have to say, he really hugs her back. You'll see. We don't see any dark Jack today, and no real anger from the group members either. It will be very interesting to see Jack's development from this point, I don't believe that TPTB are going to sweep this SL aside, it has so much potential, just like the pre and post Aremid days. Go Jack! Go Jack! Jack Angst! I'm ready! I get a sense that soon, Jen will need or try to embrace Jack, and he will pull away, like she's nothing. I can see the light!

I am weepy just hearing about Jack getting hugs!

It's stunning how Jennifer is so void of compassion. I'm just happy that Jack has found it elsewhere, though--even if he still wants the compassion and hugs from Jennifer.

Having watched Paul's clips, he not only hugs Marlena back but Pat and Leslie as well. What really got me was when the session was over he was the first one to stand up and turn towards the exit. He didn't expect anything from anyone. But then that's what he's come to expect. He hasn't receive any compassion or had any physical contact with anyone in his family so why should he expect it from strangers? And when they each took turns shaking his hand and hugging him you call tell how deeply it affected him. It sad that he would receive more compassion from strangers than his own family.

Also, I really like the interaction between Jack and Pat. Would really love to see her again.

Oh Jack, that's what you needed, buddy. You got six hugs, one "I'm proud of you", one "You did really good", four "Hang in there" and some hope.

 Jack and Marlena

I just want them to cuddle up on the couch, gabbing like old friends with a bucket of ice cream between them, and John pops in a movie and pops the corn. I know that's highly uncharacteristic for both of them, but I'm high on Writer/Shrink friendlove right now.

This was an amazing the episode and IMO the only thing Days did wrong was not making it 100% Jack and Co. seriously I could have watched and entire hour of that session. I actually got to the end thinking I wish they would honor Matts 2 epi per week and once a week we would get to see this group talking about their experiences as well as trying to deal with the every day.

I liked the dynamic between Paco and Jack and you could tell Jack wanted to treat him more like a son then a person dealing with the same disorder. I don't know if anyone caught it but at the end of Jack's talk Paco puts his hand on Jack's shoulder and he sort of jumps a bit which I thought was so realistic for someone who went through torture and didn't know someone was going to touch them. I agree about the hugs at the end. MA always played Jack awkwardly hugging with maybe the exception of Abby, even with Jennifer in the first and second run he always played it a bit awkward so to see him embrace those people at the end and in a way that made me think he was screaming inside for it and then I remembered when he asked Abby if he could hug her when she decided to forgive him. It’s like he is just trying to make it real, hoping the hug will ground him in reality. I also liked that going in he didn't mention doing it for Jennifer but for Abby and J.J. who deserved a real dad not just half of him. I also thought the references to Jennifer were interesting, very different from what we have been seeing and hearing. The line "I want to be a man whose wife wants to be with him" really had me hold back the tears and I'm not an emotional person. Coincidentally, I also got the Pat/Jack vibe something about the way he looked at her when she walked in and then them saying that she is a good listener, perfect for Jack because he is a talker.

Bravo to MA! He played this so beautifully and his actions seem to make a lot more sense so much so that I actually wonder if MA read this script or on outline of it before he shot the last few weeks. He really does seem to be playing Jack as only a part of himself. Think about it, we really haven't gotten a genuine happy smile or laugh it's always done with a bit of sadness. Also the way he is acting with this Jennifer mess is more like he is watching it from afar not really there. If it wasn't for Chandler and Matt I would have dropped this soap faster than they dropped the PTSD sl. I really want more of this and I would LOVE to see this as the central problem between Jack and Jennifer with or without Daniel this should be the focus of their disconnect. Also wondering more than ever if Jack Jr. and Abby know about the PTSD because that in itself would be interesting to play out. I can go on forever but I will stop for now I will just say that these scenes were not disappointing and MA, Deidra and All the Vets rocked it!

My first thought after reading what Marlena says to him about being the bravest person she knows was "see? These are things JENNIFER should be saying to him."

The mention of his children and the calendar but not of Jennifer is a good sign to me. Slowly but surely the divide between himself and Jennifer is growing. She is too preoccupied with Daniel to notice that Jack is slipping away. I think eventually she will see the light but by then it will be far too late.

Man I can't seem to get these scenes off my mind...I was really moved by them...haven't teared up like that to this show in a long time.

The stories that the vets shared and Matthew Ashford's BRILLIANT performance...wow...he knocked these scenes out of the park, this was as close to an Emmy-winning performance as I think an actor can get.

I don't think I have ever had so much sympathy for a fictional character than I do for Jack...and it only exclamates Jennifer's treatment of him...that is a woman that has absolutely NO love for him...no person would treat someone this badly damaged the way she has treated him.

Thank God for Marlena, or Jack would be truly alone in his suffering...his family is no family I would ever want for my worst enemy, let alone myself.

Kudos again to who ever wrote those scenes...and Matthew Ashford absolutely SLAYED those scenes...this I think could even win him an Emmy.

The hugs at the end killed me...and Marlena telling him what a good job he has done...it was so genuine, you really felt her concern for Jack....Marlena is a god send...and I REALLY loved the tribute message to the military and military families, very classy DAYS...and the background music was PERFECT!

Wow, just a wonderful job and PROOF that TPTB CAN produce some VERY high quality material when they actually try.

You know just reading the recap of tomorrow's episode and hearing what Jack says about feeling so alone just makes me detest Jennifer even more. Jack has gone through this terrible ordeal and she can't even be bothered with him because she's so concerned about the Shiny Orange One and his poor wittle feelings. Fuck off Bitchifer!! :flipoff: :moon:

I really hope you are right and I hope that is what that spoiler was alluding to when it mentioned that one person was ready to try again and the other wasn't. I think it would start Jennifer's own personal torture. He has really been there for her since they started working together at the Spectator even in the begining when he pushed her away he was still there when she needed him. It would be very intersting to see the dynamic if that changed and he slipped away from her. If I got to see the moment where she comes to that realization that he isn't her's anymore. I will forgive the writers for not giving me that "moment" when Jack returned and Jennifer should have been shocked and ashamed that she divorced and was so wrong about him.

Powerful stuff. For those saying this was a stand-alone episode, I would not only agree, but would also add that the entire PTSD storyline is separate from the rest. This is the only story I've seen that Greg Meng has commented on, so my sense is that he's the one who has taken the lead on the PTSD angle from the beginning. I believe he's overseen the writing along the way, too, and that may be why it often comes across as different from the rest of the stuff we're getting.

Having said that, I worry that TPTB originally may have thought they'd let this whole PTSD thing run it's course in about six months and culminate with a veteran's tribute. I hope not. I hope they'll keep going and not just summarily declare that Jack is healed now.

I also agree with those who say that these scenes are not part of the rewrites. They were sketched out fairly early on (summer) and were taped back in early-to-mid November (according to tweets and soap mag articles at the time.)

By the way, I remember reading back then that someone mentioned one of the vets would be hanging around for some more scenes. Does that sound familiar to anyone? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Another thing about these scenes...it just made the rest of the material look so....unimportant, ridiculous in a way, totally devoid of any kind of realistic emotion.

It also totally exclamates just how shitty this stupid triangle is and just how badly MarDar has damaged the character of Jennifer....almost beyond repair and certainly beyond recognition.

Even though I think MarDar are useless HW's, they have absolutely NAILED the Jack Deveraux character down and the writing for Jack (no matter how little he has been on) has been pretty stellar (for the most part).

Just finished watching Paul's clips...and I can't remember the last time a tv show made my sarcastic and snarky self shed a single tear! Well, those therapy session scenes did it...unbelievably touching. Really, this show is like "Jekill and Hyde", most of the time unwatchable and then there is pure genius. I need to know who wrote the script asap, lol!

I am going to comment more after watching the episode in better quality.
