Not really sad....well I guess sad....Jack's always blamed himself for just about everything so it's very in character for him to say he scared Jennifer off. He warned her when they were first starting out that he would eventually hurt her and I think they both mistakenly thought that would happen sooner rather than later and also that he would do it purposely rather than having done it accidentally. I think maybe Jack makes that parallel during this episode hence the "I scared off my wife." statement. He fell victim to becoming complacent in thinking he was over that hurdle and he would not hurt her as severely as she's hurt right now. I think Jack thought he would return and she would make him suffer for a bit, but despite her anger with him, she would eventually crumble. I think that's what he means when he says he took Jennifer for granted. He's never had an issue breaking her down before and he is now. He knew he was in trouble when he came back...hence why he did not approach her immediately and also why he seemed nervous before he was stopped in his tracks at the sight of Daniel. The entire problem Jack is experiencing right now is because he didn't expect to be gone for a year. Because, let's be honest, if that hadn't happened he probably would've been able to explain things to her upon his return and they would have reconciled and been fine. I feel intensely bad for him. Because yes, it was his fault for lying and setting this all in motion, but he did nothing with malice. Jennifer should know this. For some reason she's decided to forget who this man she's known for the last 20 years is at his core. I would imagine he's having issues with that as well. |

I'm looking forward to this episode. I can't wait to see these scenes. I wished they had Abigail be on the newspaper at Salem U and want to write an article on her father's experience. I don't think Abigail knows the extent of what Jack has been through. Then maybe Abigail will try to have her father write about his experience instead, with him hesitant. It would strengthen the bond between father/daughter. I think that they should show Jack with more of his family- Abby, Adrienne, Sonny. I love that Jack receives hugs at the end of the session. It is sad that Marlena and strangers show more compassion to Jack than his ex-wife. Hopefully, we start seeing Jennifer feel guilty for her behavior towards Jack, especially after the cabin scenes. I agree with JackN'Jen that it was sad that the PTSD s/l was pushed aside to continue the J/J/D "triangle". |

I agree with everything except giving TPTB credit. I give credit to the script writer and actors/vets. I think MarDar and KC were just shrugging, "Okay, Meng wants to tie in the real life return of vets with Jack's PTSD - so lets give them part of an episode.". And then the script writer, MA, DH and the vets freaking BLEW IT OUT OF THE WATER!! If anything this will probably just piss off TPTB even more. They don't want us to give a fuck about Jack. It's all supposed to be about poor Jen-Jen feeling TORN. That's why MA only has 1-2 episode guarantee, and why he has been completely isolated on canvas. I'm sure they wish the Jack fans would shut the hell up already, because we obviously don't appreciate their genius and understand this is just a soap, not real life That said, I am blown away by everyone's posts. Especially Mitch. I don't think I've ever heard you wax poetic about an episode before. I can't wait! This is what real talent can do DESPITE the incompetence of TPTB. Who was the script writer? |

I noticed that too!! EM always wears too much makeup. He looks ridiculous, though nowhere as ridiculous as Dr. Orange. |

I am looking forward to Jack and Marlena scenes for this episode. I am glad that Days is honoring the Veterans. We should all be thankful for all they do and honor them. Our brother is a marine and we LOVE that Days is doing this for all the vets. |

LMAO! He did look a hot mess. And what was the point of him and John's scenes? John isn't a fashion icon. He's a action type character. He needs to be on the police force or doing some kind P.I. work. This fashion shit is boring. |

LOL! Hmm, I don't think they're equal. I'd say EM beats SC at looking ridiculous by a good margin. EM's Days' look is just so very unappealing. Not only is it the copious amount of make up, but it's that combined with the bad hair (and really how can hair that short look so bad?), the Miami vice dirty looking facial scruff and fashion sense, and most ridiculous is the over sized, over bleached capped teeth that makes him look like some crazed Vegas lounge lizard when he grins. That collective mess could be excused when Brady was dark and happily drinking his life away, but now he's supposed to happy and in control of his life, and yet, he still look ridiculous. Jennifer can leave Salem and I'd do the proverbial happy dance - I'm over the bitch, she and Dr Fake Tan deserve each other. Sadly, I don't think MA and MR have any chemistry between them any more, since MR is too busy screwing over J&J fans in her pathetic interviews. MA doesn't need MR - he does perfectly fine with other actors on the show. His scenes with Deirdre and those veterans were 100% perfect - definitely MA's Emmy reel. |

Sounds like a near perfect episode with the exception of Smellanie, Madison, and Quinn. I always liked the character of Marlena but now I LOVE her! She's the ONLY one who gives a damn about Jack. I know she's his Dr. so it's her job but isn't it totally glaring the difference between Jennifer and Marlena? Standing by your husband is not optional. In sickness and in health. The anti-Jennifer sentiment after this epi is going to be insane, as well it should be. |

Managed to see Paul's clips last night, and will certainly watch the show today, since the visual quality wasn't the greatest, but even with that issue, the Jack & vets scenes were incredibly strong. MA's expressions and body language as Jack were something to behold: discomfort, determination, shock, compassion, pain--it was all there. Opening up about what's bothering him still isn't second nature to Jack, but he took a big step today, in front of a roomful of people who didn't judge him and who offered him the support and human contact he's desperately needed but so seldom received by those who are supposed to closest to him. His face when the vets came up to shake his hand and embrace him, afterwards . . . he looks so touched and so moved by their acceptance of him. And his "Thank you" to Marlena when they hugged was also revealing--he's thanking her for bringing him here, for knowing what he needed better than he knew himself. All the other vets are interesting people, and I would be very happy to see them again, in any capacity. Another therapy session, some one-on-one with Jack. They said "Pat" doesn't talk much about herself, but it could be interesting if Jack is the person she eventually opens up to. Final thought: this incarnation of Jack has outgrown this incarnation of Jennifer. I don't care about her now and won't care about her again unless she evolves, something for which she's been overdue for years. |

They are all vets, though some are actors who were once in the military. I believe they are telling their own stories (I think Deidre said that in an interview), though I'm not positive. "Mike" is played by Joel Lambert, an actor who was a Navy SEAL in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Pat is played by Noa Dori, a singer and actress with a military background. I am not sure about "Paco". "Rob" is actually Deidre Hall's surrogate's son (Deidre's sons' biological half brother), who was in Afghanistan and injured in an explosion. Leslie Nicole Smith is (clearly) telling her own story; I believe she has gone into public speaking after retiring from the military following her injury in Bosnia. |

Here was the original press release: DAYS OF OUR LIVES DEDICATES UPCOMING EPISODE TO RETURNING VETERANS AND PTSD Actual Veterans to Appear on the Show Focusing on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders from War (November 4, 2011 -Los Angeles) "Days of our Lives," NBC's longest-running scripted series, will honor current and retired U.S. troops by dedicating an upcoming episode to veterans returning home and dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. Scheduled to air in January, this will continue the show's long history of exploring real life social issues and representing the show's vast variety of viewers and their struggles. Actual veterans will appear as themselves in the episode, which focuses on psychiatrist "Marlena Evans," played by Deidre Hall, taking Matthew Ashford's "Jack" to a veteran's hospital and visiting with patients struggling with returning home and their memories of war. A journalist who was kidnapped and held in Afghanistan while on assignment, "Jack" has returned to his home in Salem, but struggles to fit back in to his former life and face the reality of what he was put through, leading to issues dealing with stress and the pressure of strained relationships with his ex-wife and daughter. Joining the cast are a group of actual veterans, including Captain Leslie Nicole Smith, a former Army Public Affairs Officer, who retired due to a blood virus she contracted in Bosnia which resulted in the loss of her left leg, complete vision in her left eye, and some loss to her right eye's vision. She currently speaks around the country to veterans and other victims of post-traumatic stress disorder. "With President Obama’s recent announcement that we will bring home our troops we thought it was an important issue to address and let our family of viewers know we care about them," said Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng. |

According to a poster on another board, "Paco" is also ex-military, and dating one of her friends in real life. |

I can't stand the Basic Black story and I was hoping they would take John in a different diferction. Let him go to work with Carrie and Rafe, if they ever get jobs. |

Does anybody think Jack and Pat are going to be an item? his support, her support, outside the group? What vibes are you seeing? Strange that she had to make a separate entrance, from the group already there, (running late) is that suppose to be an obvious clue? |

I don't know if they'll be an item, but I could see them forming a friendship even outside of group. As an added bonus, Pat isn't hard on the eyes at all. And Jennifer would do a double-take if she saw Jack with Pat and probably jump to the conclusion that they were dating. She's made a habit of jumping to the wrong conclusions--since about Halloween, I'd say. |
