Per the Candian day-ahead credits, Lisa De Cazotte debuts as "Days" new Co-Executive Producer on Monday, January 30, 2012, replacing Noel Maxam. De Cazotte was the Executive Producer of "Passions" for its entire run from 1999-2008. De Cazotte (then known as Lisa Hesser) began her daytime career as an intern at "One Life to Live" in the early 1980's. By the time she left OLTL in 1991, she was a Coordinating Producer. From 1991-1993, she was a Producer at "Santa Barbara." De Cazotte later worked as a Coordinating Producer and Supervising Producer at "All My Children" from 1993-1996, and as Producer and Supervising Producer at "Sunset Beach" from 1997-1999. After "Passions" ended its run in 2008, she became the Executive Producer of the brief nighttime series "General Hospital: Night Shift." De Cazotte then returned to "All My Children" as a Producer from 2009-2010. She is a graduate of Fordham University and won a Daytime Emmy in 1994 for her work on "All My Children." Lisa M. Smith Hesser De Cazotte, 50, was born on November 15, 1961. She is married to French documentarian Antoine De Cazotte. Coincidentally, De Cazotte shares the same birthday as fellow "Days" Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng, who was born exactly six years before her, on November 15, 1955. http://www.jason47.com |

her job is to produce a show and save money...so i better not see the show going back to the purple sets, everyone looking "pink and orange" coffee cups w/o coffee in them (biggest pet peeve) fire places that arnt lit ...and super bright light bulbs which they buy at a dollar store..oh also crappy sets everyone remembers when Caliope returned and she just hung out on a set that consisted of a chair and a blanket behind her lol..(horrible) but as im watching monday's show something tells me its really bright for some reason Marlena seems to blend into the sets (its her clothes) |

I liked Night Shift. Since everyone seems so bored with the show now, I'm willing to give it a chance to see if she makes any difference. Whatever. |

Ok thanks. I forgot what Noel's job was and just needed a refresher. Here's hoping she does a good job and continues the improvements that Noel started. |

I wish we knew why Maxam got the boot in the first place. I thought he was doing a fine job with production. I loved what he was doing with the show. I'm willing to give De Cazotte a chance. While PSNS never impressed me, visually, Night Shift's second season did and De Cazotte was responsible for it, so we'll see. |

As long as "bringing back the original background musical arrangements" are at the top of her agenda list, she can eat, kiss ass, supply the set w/ bulbs that burst mid scene and let the actors wear their own clothes and do their own hair&makeup/muscle oil to save some coin... (those would at least be things I could live with). |

We did have that post from Deidre a few days back that Lisa is giving them a lot of freedom in their scenes. I have no idea what that means in the context of the switch (if anything) but if it improves the show, I'm all for it. |

That makes me nervous. When you're trying to tell a story, you can't just tell the actors, "Hey, disregard the script. Play it however you want." To me, that's just a nicer way of saying "make it up as you go along." A little experimentation here and there is fine, but if the actors and the writers aren't on the same page with the way things are written vs. the way things are played, the stories have a tendency to not make much sense. I'm sure Lisa knows that though, so the fact that she's allowing so much freedom tells me she probably doesn't care. |

I feel like the writers and actors are already not on the same page, and actually it has seemed for the last few months like the actors already have a good bit of freedom. I'm actually surprised to hear her stuff hasn't already started airing. The different camera angles stopped a while back. |

I disagree. Deidre was referring to the fact that she and Chandler came up with some ways to show the Marlena/Will relationship. What they came up with was the "Words with Friends" jokes and the "Don't call me Grandma" teasing. I think those types of elements are perfect; they help the audience relate to the characters, and help the character relationship cross various scenes and stories. If (and I have no idea if this is what Deidre was implying, but) IF they hadn't been allowed to do that before, I think this is an extremely positive change. |

I'm fine with the producers giving the actors more freedom with their scenes. The actors know the characters better than the writers, obviously at this point. I don't see any negatives in it. I think if they go way overboard then the producer would put a stop to it or cut the scene, they aren't going to let them totally redo the script. They're probably just letting them throw in some history or ad-lib a little bit. I like it. |

Lisa is a very good producer. She did alot with less, especially at Passions. She was great at Night Shift too. She has also done work at Santa Barbara and on AMC and did pretty well there too. Looking at the spoilers, there is a clearly shift in tone in regards to the stories. They are definitely more in the vein of traditional soap with some camp to them, which is good because Days needs that. I'm thinking Noel Maxam and Greg Meng pushed the whole "unsoap the soap" theme more than MarDar. I can't see MarDar, especially given they worked under JER, pushing that. I think they've been shoehorned into writing to a basic framework. I think they had free reign on what stories they could write within that framework but I think they clearly had guidelines to adhere too and I think Maxam and Meng set those up. They wanted more realism and more of an episodic format (sort of like primetime) where things get tied up in an episode with hardly ever a circumstance where there is followup the next episode. That looks like it may be changing. Take Friday's episode and Monday's upcoming episode (apparently, Lisa's first episode) for example. Monday has followups to all of Friday's stories and cliffhangers. That hasn't happened on Days hardly at all since the reboot. That is just basic soap. I think we will see a return to that now. I think they just wanted someone with a basic soap vision and Lisa has that. Noel was great with production but I suspect he was big on pushing for more realism and he probably felt creatively unfulfilled staying onboard at Days with this change in vision and the show fired him due to creative differences. It happens. |
