In the Abby vs. Melanie debate- I think this has to be Abby. Were it Melanie, people would have a "why the fuck is Melanie in everything" reaction, anyway. At least with this, instead of some random person, instead of bringing on some new character to be the vixen for a couple years, they're using a character that matters. It's also a character where we can't as easily leap to hatred if she breaks up a major couple, 'cause she's a legacy. I think that's a smart move.

And, they're giving that character some history. Abby won't be on an easy path to boring-land. If they do it right, she'll need some kind of redemption (and not three weeks from now when it's not sweeps and they get bored with telling the story).

Plus the actress playing Melanie, while I don't hate her as much as some do, would play this like a challenged two year-old. At least the actress playing Abby will be able to bring a bit more to it.

I'm all for it. I really like the way these writers are using Abby/Will. I think it helps that he's gay so they didn't try to find a way to shove them into a trueloveforever kinda relationship. It's nice that they'll get to be people first, then fall into a major romance (unless Abby/Austin turns out differently than I imagine it will and they are a genuine romance).

Abby--daughter of Jennifer, great-granddaughter of Alice Horton--should be the show's young heroine. Ruining yet another daughter of a supercouple seems like such a waste, especially when I can think of another candidate for the job of psycho bitch that would be much more believable.
I'm going to whisper here so that Ken Corday can't hear me, but I'm not sure he's realized that Melanie has become wallpaper. Even if Abby is turned into a psycho bitch, she's getting story and Melanie is not. What's Melanie even doing? Starring in Chad's dreams that we don't see? Who cares? At least I care about what Abby's doing, and I can't see myself ever wishing a violent, permanent death with her ashes scattered in Siberia on Abby the way I do Melanie.

I am interested in seeing how Austin reacts to Abby after this. He could be in a lot of trouble just firing her and he's twice her age which makes things not quite as bad, but it would still be sort of like she took advantage of him. All their little meetings and chats should be over and he should be suspicious of her if he has any sense at all.
That might be how Austin would see it (that Abby was taking advantage of him in his drunken state). But the rest of the world will see it as just the opposite. He was an older man -- a professor -- sleeping with his young student intern. There's no way it won't make him look really bad. He could be fired from his job and condemned by the public and the press.

Agreed, which is why I said he can't just fire her, but at the same time, if he's smart, he'll have to realize he needs to protect himself. He knows from experience how much damage this kind of thing can cause.

Austin has always been decent and honorable to a fault, even with Sami when she raped him, which is why she was able to get him into so much trouble over and over again.

I'm more interested in how he reacts upon first hearing the news. Will it be all about him and the potential fall out for his job and his marriage? Or will he show concern/regret for Abigail? Will anyone bring up the subject of using protection?

Since I didn't see the incident with Sami, I don't know what his reaction was back then. But this older version of Austin that PM is portraying seems pretty decent and honorable. So my sense is that he'll feel terribly guilty and ashamed, and be full of regret and apologies.

This is where we run into a problem, because I can't see Abigail just letting him go on and on, telling her how sorry he is and how awful he feels, without saying something. If she continues for too long to deceive him, she really comes across as a total jerk and a manipulator. If the writers want to drag this out, they'll need to somehow show that she tries to correcct her initial error and tell the truth, but something keeps blocking her. Otherwise, it's too OOC to my mind.

Oh, and for those reveling in the absence of Melanie, don't relax for too long. A spoiler says that Abigail clues Melanie in on her deception very soon.

I looove the idea of him showing concern/regret for Abby. He's already been very protective of her so far and that's why she has this attachment to him. Really hope they don't fuck it up.

I'm not opposed to the storyline and I'm eternally grateful it's not Melanie because this is clearly a frontburner storyline and I'd prefer not to have to deal with that much Melanie. I just wish we could have one younger female (who's not Melanie) who could actually be relatively stable. But apparently, that's not allowed. Instead, all of them (except Melanie) must go to crazytown over a guy.

Love that female empowerment thing MarDar's got going.

I really hadn't thought of it in terms of what it means for the younger female characters on the show, probably because my pop culture choices and work environment have turned my brain a little misogynistic. So I see a bunch of young women on Days obsessing over men and my only thought is...why isn't there more fighting between them? Or at least a shitload of hurtful gossip.

I can see how an emotionally stable younger woman might be nice, though.

I'd be happy if she was a snarky and emotionally stable woman. Then she could spend the day telling her crazytown friends how fucking ridiculous they are for losing their shit over guys. Especially this particular set of losers.

Or, failing that, can we just turn it all into an episode of the Bachelor and have Chad and Austin hand out roses after overnight sex dates?

Love this twist. Reminds me of the 90's Days that we were all so hooked on...And this doesn't ruin the character of Abby...Look at Chelsea- she did some pretty awful stuff at first and was able to be redemmed.

For me, the problem is that unlike Chelsea, Abby has no excuse to be such a nutter. She had one of the most stable upbringings of anyone in town and she seems to have lost it for no good reason. It's Stephanie all over again.

Recast Abby and I might care about this story. KM is AWFUL and I doubt we'll get any kind of emotions that Abby's torn or feels guilty about this, cause KM doesn't have the chops to pull it off.

^ Totally disagree...KM has more chops (my opinion) than any of the younger set with the exception of Will. Sonny is coming around for me too now that we see him more. He's kinda corny but I love him. Too bad he can't have a random female BFF who is not BSC.

We'll have to agree to disagree, cause from what I've seen in various places most don't like her Abigail overall. I will admit her Abby does look like she could really be the daughter of Jack & Jenn

Gone, But Not Forgotten!

I love KM, she is a great actress and brings a lot of emotion to her scenes. Abby & Austin...obviously just a bump in the road.. I see no long lasting relationship here.

I find it very ironic... back in November, when Abby goes off on Jack, she talks about lying... "HE LIED, MOM. LYING IS ALWAYS SELFISH.. YOU (JENNIFER) TAUGHT ME THAT". Oh, how this going to bite her in the ass.

Jen & Abby are both going to lie this Feb Sweeps..so ironic & out of character. It's worth a good laugh or cry, depending how you see it.

I would actually love that if it were another character doing all the manipulating and not Abby.
