I don't get the bitching either. I thought it was a great ad for NBC, my love of Tina Fey/30 Rock aside.

What more do people realistically expect they would show? Surely not a solo Days promo. It's the biggest advertising day of the year, they'd make more money from a Geiko ad than they ever would in the long run of showcasing Days in its current state. And seeing as the show is being still being panned by fans and critics - what could they even show in a promo that would lure people in?
Drew, I think that, given that things are very different with the TV landscape than in the '80s, NBC could have done more since there are VASTLY fewer scripted shows than there used to be. Look at all that time that 30 Rock and The Office hogged in this promo. I'm not trying to be ungrateful for NBC's inclusion of Days in the promo, but I am trying to point out the disparity since the Thursday night block is low rated and pretty much almost everything on NBC these days is low rated, so it makes since that a rising tide lifts all ships. Since there are so few scripted shows now, let's showcase each. The fact that Days is the net's last soap gave even more reason to give more time since there would be no worries about including others from the scripted daytime block.
Yes nothing on NBC is really a hit right now, but 30 Rock and The Office are two of NBC's biggest shows and Tina Fey is the closest that network's come to a Jerry Seinfeld in a long time. Of course they highlighted them. Days of our Lives is the complete opposite, and correct me if I'm wrong - would they not also the least watched show on the network by the numbers?

It's not reasonable to expect them to give a soap opera of all things the same prominence as items on their primetime block. The show is lucky they didn't just use Alison Sweeney to count for both of her shows.

JUST noticed Ali & the BL coaches being photoshopped in.

But they weren't alone!

Howie Mandel, Kathy Bates, Carson Daly and some other guy (?) were, too. They're the shot right after the BiggestLoser losers.

I didn't notice Alison Sweeney the first time, but I will not put myself through watching that again.

I loved the promo and seeing the different shows, but DAYS' representation in this was crap! :eyeroll: I mean, I appreciate that Drake and Deidre were included, but really, what was the point of flying them in for a promo that they're barely seen in. Everyone else that was in that group shot in the end got an individual segment to represent their shows (or at least a close-up of their faces), but nothing for Drake and Deidre. :eyeroll: I can GUARANTEE you that if I didn't know that the DH's were a part of this promo, I wouldn't have seen them, so I really don't understand NBC's reasoning in including them in New York. As someone else said they should have just shot something from LA and given them their own little segment rather than have them be a part of something that they're barely noticed in.

Whatever...guess I shouldn't have expected anything more.

Another random thought on this: The Biggest Loser used to be one of NBC's "flagship" shows... I know trends move each year and now reality shows aren't as popular as they once were, but I think it's telling that TBL didn't even get a 'featured' spot in this promo. No surprise whatsoever that Days didn't, but I wonder if TBL's days are numbered.

That's a really interesting question. Makes me want to visit TVbythenumbers to get a feel for the answer.

DAYS' representation here was pathetic. Every other show that was featured got recognizability by being surrounded by most of the regular cast. If they were going to include DAYS, they should have done something at the studio.

That's just not true. Even Donald Trump had less airtime than Drake and Deidre, though he had a closeup. LENO had less airtime than Drake and Deidre and had like half a bar of the song before they abruptly switched shows. As we were saying above, TBL had their 3 regulars inserted in for a second at the end. NBC clearly gave priority to certain shows, and Days was not one of them, but there were others 'underrepresented' as well.

Isn't Days still one of their more successful shows when you consider the budget? NBC's primetime is still faltering. I suppose on one hand, it's the thought that counts and its nice that NBC made the effort, but this effectively didn't promote Days at all. As someone else said, I only saw them because I was carefully watching for them.

Except for the top 3 in the promo (30 Rock, P&R and SMASH), I don't think NBC was using it to specifically promote any shows. It was more of a "We're all on NBC and we're awesome" thing. Like promoting the network and its lineup rather than any one show.

Maybe. I'm not familiar with all the NBC shows, but besides the ones you mention, I saw specific spots for SVU and Parenthood too, then the little "Yay we're all on the same station" at the end. IDK with all that talk about Days needing to choose certain people because they had to really represent the show, I expected something more. I also think that any network doing a "hey look at all our shows" would probably include a couple soap people just for completeness.

Well, I thought it was a cute spot & loved the Broadway reference.

I think it's pretty awesome that they included Days at all, considering the lack of love soaps seem to get from the networks these days.

Also, I never saw AS....

LOL - thats it?

Oh well, at least they were included in that final shot...plus there was some shows that got just as much coverage as DAYS, so that is good.

No matter what you think, I DO love you.

I'm glad they DHs were sent to represent DAYs but I honestly didn't see why NBC even bothered. Blink and you miss them. The thought was nice I suppose so that counts for something. It was a 3 and a half minute segment, would it have killed them to even give DAYs the Leno/Trump/Voice treatment with the 2 second spot? Having Deidre and Drake as random riser fillers was lame. Even a cut in close up like they had with TBL, or the other 4 photoshopped in actors would have nice because if you didn't know they were going to be there, you would have missed them all together.

Also it needs to be said, but NBC could have EASILY not included DAYS here and it would not have made a difference...so the fact they DID include DAYS in the final group show means someone was at least thinking about the show, so that is positive news...especially since soaps are being killed off every six months.

NBC clearly still supports it..,and really did anyone expect DAYS to get a singing piece like 30 Rock/Parks & Rec/SVU/Community/Parenthood/Leno/SNL...NBC biggest series?

Some primetime shows weren't even included (Grimm/The Firm/Chuck/Who's Still Standing/Minute to Win It)

I agree, Mitch. The mere fact they even thought of Days and flew them both in, to me, is a huge positive to take from this. I recall back in 2002 during NBC's 50th anniversary and neither Days or Passions got mentioned at all in any of the NBC promos that featured pretty much all of their shows. I also believe I recall Deidre Hall was supposed to have a role in the NBC anniversary special and it either got cut or was a blink and you miss it sort of appearance.

You take what you get, especially since the other networks don't even bother with their soaps. When days gets just as much promotion in one of these as some primetime shows, that isn't all that bad. There was no way they were going to do more than that when they were clearly trying to focus more on the shows they felt were most popular in the mainstream.

I agree it's definitely a positive they included anyone from DAYS - but it seems it would have been far more cost effective to photoshop them in like they did with the BLers. Dee and Drake looked great, though. :)

Overall I thought it was a cute spot. I loved the "How to Succeed" reference...and my hubs is a big fan of Community and Parks and Rec - so it was nice to see them heavily featured.

It's not nearly as endearing as the Betty White spot for "The Voice" but it was fun, nevertheless.

Actually David Giuntoli of Grimm was included. He was one of the actors "photoshopped" in at the end between Kathy Bates and Carson Daly. It makes total sense that they couldn't include the cast of Grimm because that show shoots on location in Portland, OR. As for Chuck, that wouldn't be included because it's been cancelled and is already off the air, and The Firm is about to be cancelled. So all of their scripted shows were included.

Still don't agree about DAYS, but hey, that's just me I guess. :hmmph:
