Also it needs to be said, but NBC could have EASILY not included DAYS here and it would not have made a difference...so the fact they DID include DAYS in the final group show means someone was at least thinking about the show, so that is positive news...especially since soaps are being killed off every six months.

NBC clearly still supports it..,and really did anyone expect DAYS to get a singing piece like 30 Rock/Parks & Rec/SVU/Community/Parenthood/Leno/SNL...NBC biggest series?

Some primetime shows weren't even included (Grimm/The Firm/Chuck/Who's Still Standing/Minute to Win It)
Actually David Giuntoli of Grimm was included. He was one of the actors "photoshopped" in at the end between Kathy Bates and Carson Daly. It makes total sense that they couldn't include the cast of Grimm because that show shoots on location in Portland, OR. As for Chuck, that wouldn't be included because it's been cancelled and is already off the air, and The Firm is about to be cancelled. So all of their scripted shows were included.

Still don't agree about DAYS, but hey, that's just me I guess. :hmmph:
Ok I stand corrected about Grimm and Chuck...but still...DAYS could have easily not been included, so the effort to fly DH/DH to NY and film them with the rest of the NBC stars shows they are still remembering DAYS.

I'm glad they DHs were sent to represent DAYs but I honestly didn't see why NBC even bothered. Blink and you miss them. The thought was nice I suppose so that counts for something. It was a 3 and a half minute segment, would it have killed them to even give DAYs the Leno/Trump/Voice treatment with the 2 second spot? Having Deidre and Drake as random riser fillers was lame. Even a cut in close up like they had with TBL, or the other 4 photoshopped in actors would have nice because if you didn't know they were going to be there, you would have missed them all together.
Agreed. I never thought they'd be the focus of the promo, but I went into it looking forward to and expecting them to get a short close up. Oh well.

I don't get the bitching either. I thought it was a great ad for NBC, my love of Tina Fey/30 Rock aside.

What more do people realistically expect they would show? Surely not a solo Days promo. It's the biggest advertising day of the year, they'd make more money from a Geiko ad than they ever would in the long run of showcasing Days in its current state. And seeing as the show is being still being panned by fans and critics - what could they even show in a promo that would lure people in?
Drew, I think that, given that things are very different with the TV landscape than in the '80s, NBC could have done more since there are VASTLY fewer scripted shows than there used to be. Look at all that time that 30 Rock and The Office hogged in this promo. I'm not trying to be ungrateful for NBC's inclusion of Days in the promo, but I am trying to point out the disparity since the Thursday night block is low rated and pretty much almost everything on NBC these days is low rated, so it makes since that a rising tide lifts all ships. Since there are so few scripted shows now, let's showcase each. The fact that Days is the net's last soap gave even more reason to give more time since there would be no worries about including others from the scripted daytime block.
Yes nothing on NBC is really a hit right now, but 30 Rock and The Office are two of NBC's biggest shows and Tina Fey is the closest that network's come to a Jerry Seinfeld in a long time. Of course they highlighted them. Days of our Lives is the complete opposite, and correct me if I'm wrong - would they not also the least watched show on the network by the numbers?

It's not reasonable to expect them to give a soap opera of all things the same prominence as items on their primetime block. The show is lucky they didn't just use Alison Sweeney to count for both of her shows.
I know the show is probably the lowest rated among all of those in the lineup -- right? -- but still: the network keeps it. And it's been on for 40 years, which means 30 Rock has nothin' on it. If you keep something on the air for that long, you must give it better respect than this. After all, Dee and Drake are probably the ONLY people in this promo who also appeared in the 1980s NBC "Place to Be" promos, lol. Think of it that way, and it not only shows the show's longevity, but also why NBC could have done better.

I agree, Mitch. The mere fact they even thought of Days and flew them both in, to me, is a huge positive to take from this. I recall back in 2002 during NBC's 50th anniversary and neither Days or Passions got mentioned at all in any of the NBC promos that featured pretty much all of their shows. I also believe I recall Deidre Hall was supposed to have a role in the NBC anniversary special and it either got cut or was a blink and you miss it sort of appearance.

You take what you get, especially since the other networks don't even bother with their soaps. When days gets just as much promotion in one of these as some primetime shows, that isn't all that bad. There was no way they were going to do more than that when they were clearly trying to focus more on the shows they felt were most popular in the mainstream.
Phoenix: That NBC special you're referring to had Kelsey Grammar rudely bark at Dee: "No daytime!" when she asked if Days of Our Lives would be featured on the broadcast. And the audience laughed. And that made Dee AND Days the butt of a joke. It sickened me back then and it sickens me now to think of it. It's very memorable. Dee looked gorgeous during that segment, too. It was sick.

That's really interesting. This convo was making me remember all the ways that NBC primetime featured soaps back in the 90's and early 00's. Characters on Friends and The West Wing watched Passions, characters on ER watched Days, and of course there was the tie in with Joey playing Dr. Drake Ramoray on Days and cameo appearances from the cast. There was a ton of cross promotion.

I still remember the scene with Clooney watching a scene featuring Marlena in the lounge. Made me excited back then.

Yep and DAYS used to also mention NBC shows often as well, which they no longer do.

There is very little cross promotion on NBC now.

I remember when the Golden Girls mentioned Another World. It was even funnier because Rue had been on AW in the 1970s.

Just saw this. Great to see Days and DHx2 included.

As someone who doesn't watch much prime time tv at all, therefore presumably in the demographic they're trying to lure into watching NBC prime time, I'm left with an overall sense of "WTF was that???" Consider me not lured in the least.

I'm glad Days was included in the commercial for NBC, but I didn't see Deidre & Drake or Sweeney.. Loved the commercial though. ;)
