Okay, so this is my first time watching the show, and I love it already! The talent is much better than American Idol and X Factor. I'm still unsure about how the format works (like what happens after the auditions? Do they compete with the other contestants their mentor chose?), but so far, I kind of like it. The buttons and the "I want you" written at the bottom of the chairs are kind of silly, but I like the idea of not being able to see what the contestants look like. Not a fan of Adam or Christina, but whatever, hopefully I'll get over it, LoL. Oh, and I have a question... Are there any age limits for the contestants? |

I watched last season and liked it a lot. Last season each coach had 6 people to work with and this time they get 12. I don't think there is an an age limit. A woman in her 40's was on last season. Duos can try out too. After each coach has 12 people, the singers have to compete against the other people in their team. The coach picks which two they want to go head to head. They perform together and the coach decides which one goes. Last year after they were all down to 4 people (it could be different this year), they went to the live shows. Two of the teams performed on one show, and the other two teams on the next (so 8 people on each show). You can call to vote or downloading a song on intunes counts as a vote too. From what I remember the highest vote getter on each team is safe and the coach saves one other contestant. They are still competing against their own team members until the final 4 people (each coach has one person). Oh, and each coach will have someone else with them to help mentor the contestants and to help decide who stays and who goes. I remember Reba Mcintyre working with Blake last year. I think they each get two people working with them this year. I know Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson are both doing it. Tonight was good! The last guy was my favorite. He was the one that was in the Mickey Mouse Club with Christina. |

I can see why Christina didn't recognize her Mickey Mouse Club co star right away,it has been since 1995 that she,Britney and Justin were on there,he was good though. I don't remember if there is an age limit. After this round they work with the contestants, then they pin them together by having them sing together and their mentor picks who was better in the duet and they move on to be voted by the viewers. |

The minimum age requirement is 16 and there's no maximum age limit. I love this show more than Idol or X-Factor |

How much money do you wanta bet the producers had a hand in "cluing Christina in" about who her former Mouseketeer was? She's so big and famous that she probably forgot all about "the little people". The Juliet chick reminded me of a cross between Pauley Perette and Emma Stone. It's going to be hard to get into a new season. The first season set such a high bar; I'm not sure if they'll be able to match that again. There won't be another Xenia, Dia or Javier. |

I like the show but I don't like how most of the people seem to be people who already have experience or know people in the business. For example, Alicia Keys' backup singer and that Chris Mann guy who my friend told me was involved in Glee or something. These people already know people in the industry. Why can't they use those connections to break in? Why waste a spot on this show when it's supposed to be going to people who work their asses off and who've waited years for a break? I didn't like this on X-Factor and Idol and I don't like it here and it seems The Voice has ALOT of those kind of people. They even came out and said it tonight and acted like it's a good thing. It's not. Part of the appeal of these shows is watching the hard working artist or undiscovered artist, not someone who's already been discovered and failed or already had a decent break and wasn't happy with what little progress they've made. I'm starting to think they're going with more "plants" than Idol or X-Factor had because they really want to have alot of talent and really want to beat Idol. If they were going to do that, they shouldn't have emphasized it the way they did tonight IMO. It just angers the hell out of me. I do like the chemistry and camaraderie between the mentors/judges. That is what X-Factor lacked big time. Plus, unlike X-Factor, the show isn't overproduced. The blind auditions are great but I do miss having someone bad or crazy come in to audition. Idol has TOO much of it but I prefer a little of that just for variety. I guess that is what makes the show unique as they have none of that. I do see they are heading in the direction of Idol with sob stories. We had a few too many of those tonight and I wish they would've broken those up more because I felt bombarded by them. I think it's way better than X-Factor but, for me, it's not better than Idol when it's at it's best (like last season). It's better than Idol's audition rounds, although I miss the bad/crazy auditions Idol does, but the big reason why is the judges/mentors and how entertaining they are. Otherwise, it would be boring as hell. Edited by PhoenixRising05, Feb 6 2012, 02:59 AM.

Yeah. Besides, I think she sort of did recognize him. She looked a bit awkward when talking to him while he was on stage. She did seem like she was thinking of whether she knew him and she did get up out of her chair pretty quickly after he had left the stage so I think she had a feeling and figured it out pretty quickly. |

I guess that could be right. Maybe I'm just good with remembering people, I suppose. I just assumed the "getting out her chair quickly" was because a producer had told her (over earpiece) who he was. (Due to the fact that she didn't get up until after he had walked off stage).. |

Only watched one random episode last season, but will try and catch this season in it's entirety. I was hooked and ready for more. Adam Levine is one fine man, although not as much when he opens his mouth. |

The Voice is open about the fact they have people who have had success. I prefer that to how at times AI tries to hide it. Javier had a recording contract and minor success and they were honest. With Dia they kind of ignored it, other than a comment or two, which I found frustrating. Trying to cast a show with all unknowns would be extremely hard, and I totally understand why someone would prefer to see those who only had regional success than performers who had a larger stage and didn't get anywhere. |

See, I would rather they just hide it if they are going to have so many. If it's only a few people, I'm ok with them being open about it. However, these shows became successful because they gave the hard working musician who can't catch a break or the young person sitting at home watching whose never been discovered that great opportunity that otherwise wouldn't come around. If the show ends up with the majority being people who've had opportunities and just want another chance, than it basically supports the point Randy Jackson made last week that Adam Levine complained about and disagreed with...The Voice is essentially just the reject show. The show people turn to as a last hope or for a second chance. I think they would be wise to promote the show as such. Promote it as one last chance for some people. That would be accurately representing the show and then I could tolerate it better. I mean, it's a fascinating angle to play. You can play up the back stories of the artists and how they are trying to overcome previous failure or hurdles. I would also just have it so that nothing but artists who've had record deals or some success make it in and keep everyone else out because I feel like you can't have it both ways. I feel like they are misrepresenting the show by acting like it's doing the same thing Idol and X-Factor does when it isn't. I realize all of these shows do have people on who've had some previous success but I've never seen so many as The Voice has. A few is ok but this many goes against what the show supposedly stands for IMO. Oh, and since you brought up Javier, does anyone know how well he's done? I can't recall hearing anything about him. It feels like it took forever for his album to come out and I only saw that he made a few appearances around the holidays to promote it and that's it. I feel like they dropped the ball on him and so many of the good contestants they had last year. |

Early numbers for the premiere has it at just over 30 million viewers...pretty decent numbers post-SuperBowl. The Voice > American Idol >> X Factor |

It would be a massive fail if it didn't do at least 30 million given it aired after the Super Bowl and they promoted it a ton. |

The Voice is great. I will only watch the blind auditions and battles though. The second season just ended in my country (Netherlands), I like the American version better.
