I do think this is a little weird if their son is not into it. Anyone know how old their son is? I can see if he were to get the ring on his own (but maybe he has no money) or if he asks for it. But to give it as a gift and just expect him to wear it would be strange, but then we have no idea what the story is. I'm a born-again Christian...and I respect the idea, but only if he is totally on board with it. On another note...as much as Missy seems to be a total hard-core Christian she seems to be a little hypocritical in that her character on the show was having pre-marital sex with Daniel. I'm not even worried about the divorcing Jack or what-not. Just the fact that she had sex with Daniel after no time at all. I know it's a paycheck and she does what the writers say, but seems like if her beliefs were THAT strong, she would stand up for them. Plus, people keep getting the idea that she is totally for Daniel/Jen and not Jack/Jen. I'm not sure I believe that, but if it were true then it wouldn't make sense either with her view on marriage. Maybe I'm being too hard on her. Maybe she just doesn't want to lose her job and money. Just seems like with as vocal as she is about her beliefs, she would be vocal about how she wanted to portray this character. But then...Jennifer is not Missy so maybe she doesn't care.
I had the same sentiments about Missy. It doesn't make sense that she would champion a Dannifer pairing since that's the sinful one of the two options. It also doesn't make sense that she can simulate sex on "Days" with Dan and then expect her son to not live by the flesh. I'm not trying to judge her, but as someone with ties (not personally, but friends) to the Christian film industry, this isn't typical of born again Christians in the media.

Honestly, MR really needs to separate her personal life from her professional life.
When you have any job, shoe shiner or soap star, you need to avoid these three topics: 1) sex 2) politics 3) religion

When will she learn? :shame: :shame: :shame:
I think they are separate. She's not proclaiming this on the show. The fact that her character doesn't live by the same values MR is talking about is a good demonstration of her keeping the two things separate.

I don't have a problem with what she said, but if I were her son I'd be mortified that not only did my parents buy me jewelry that had a sexual meaning, but my mom tweeted her fans about it.
I don't think that's the issue. With Christians, particularly staunch ones, this is something to be proud about and shout aloud about. It's definitely not in conflict with her beliefs, or her son's, presumably, as it's just another form of evangelizing. Think about it: When the media is so filled with sex and promiscuity, this is their way to show an alternative. Personally, I see nothing wrong with the tweet itself, or the supposed personal nature of it. What's more embarrassing is Laurence Fishburne's daughter taking it every which way on camera. (She's a porn star, for those who don't know.)

By the way: I hope someone can clarify the dressing room situation. It's very confusing. I just read a sign, is all.

I'm pretty familiar with how it works. ;) Regardless, I personally would be mortified if my mom decided to proclaim it for me. Her son may not be, and may have even encouraged her to do it. Idk.

Why would the pairing with Daniel be sinful? She was already divorced from Jack when she slept with Daniel. It's stupid, yes. But I don't see where it would be sinful.

Fundamentalist Christians do not believe in premarital sex. The Bible defines it as adultery.

The notion is that sex is for procreation and within marriage. The notion is that the two partners in a marriage enter into a sacrament with God and sex is part of that sacrament.

Actually, they fall under the same banner. The commandment is "thou shalt not commit adultery." That includes fornication.

I understand that but then her being with Jack would be equally as sinful as she's not married to either man.

I'm a born again Christian, and I watch it, so what does that say about me?

I think it's her job & she does it, doesn't mean she'd be condoning it in real life. I think she is separating her beliefs from her job.

As to past indiscretions, I think we ALL make those, doesn't make her not a Christian anymore.

But on the ring, I agree with Lysie, if I was their kid I'd be mortified that any of it was on the world wide web.....another issue entirely.

Neither do I, but it's likely than an actor and actress couple who give their son a purity ring or (whatever they're called) would have a different take on the topic.

I guess it just depends on where the line would be drawn for them. From the interviews I've read, MR very much sees Days as a professional gig and that work is work and their personal lives are just that. I don't get any read on her that she'd make a big hoopla about premarital sex on the show, but I do have to admit that it IS surprising she doesn't based on how vocal she is about their faith.

Scott Reeves is also in a pairing on GH that routinely hits the sheets (one scene involved a stripper pole, believe it or not) and I've not heard anything about him speaking out, either.

I have wondered if the reason Missy is so adamant in her interviews about Jennifer's great love for Dr. Dan is that the characters have slept together. Maybe she thinks her evangelical Christian fanbase would get upset if they thought she was playing a character that was having casual sex with someone she wasn't committed to fully. Probably grasping at straws, I know.
