Beverly Todd, whose movie and primetime credits include ROOTS, "They Call Me Mister Tibbs" and GREY'S ANATOMY, was flattered when DAYS requested a meeting about her assuming the role of Celeste Perrault (previously played by Tanya Boyd). "I spiffed up and looked as smashing as I could for the meeting with them," she smiles. "It was kind of shrouded in mystery. I knew that there was an actress who might not be returning." Todd, who previously appeared as Monica Nelson on LOVE OF LIFE (1968-70), shares, "I remembered the massive amounts of dialogue we had to learn and I was so excited, but also apprehensive. I thought, 'All those words! Will I be able to do it?' " At the conclusion of the meeting, Todd was informed that she had won the role. "I went home and holed myself in for the whole weekend learning all the lines," she recounts. "My first day on the set, I was in a daze. I just prayed that I would get through it without missing lines and holding up production. I wanted the producers to know that they had the right actress and that I could do this role." Todd's first day included scenes with TV daughter Renee Jones (Lexie). "She's adorable and a wonderful actress," praises Todd. "I couldn't have had a nicer daughter. I've gotta say that everybody at DAYS has been so kind. It's a wonderful, relaxed set and I am really thankful for that." Todd will first appear on April 3. |

Although, I'd much rather have Boyd, I am willing to give Todd a chance in the role. |

No problem! :) I'm still jonesing for some old-fashioned "Dahhhhling" quotes from Tanya Boyd, but I'll settle for a recast as long as the actress can pull it off and the material is good. Hopefully Boyd can return in the future! |

Is she going to be on for good, or is this a shortterm thing? |

I hope Tanya is doing okay and that she'll be able to return someday. She'll always be Celeste for me, but I'm going to give this lady a chance ! |

Of course I wish Tanya Boyd was available to do this, but I'm more than willing to give Beverly Todd a chance. I already know she's a good actress and she seems really sweet in this little article. The fact that she says "everybody at DAYS has been so kind" leads me to believe that she's still taping. I hope so. I was hoping it wasn't a really short term arc. Normally in these articles they will always talk about how it "was fun" or everyone "was great" but her use of the word "has" makes me think she's still around. |

Just the fact that she expressed how excited she was about getting the part makes me like her. +She was on Roots, 'nuff said. |

Aw, thanks. I love drama. Really wanted Abe to be exposed and rejected by Lexie for his lies. It was interesting to explore Abe's hypocrisy; now, it'll be interesting to watch Lexie's hypocrisy and playing the game of Will-she-or-won't-she keep her marriage vows. (I'm pro-Abe's exposure but anti-Lexie's leaving him for good. For the sake of drama, however, it's necessary for her to leave him. Now, it's my job to call her out and cheerlead them back together again! May it not happen for a long while.) But on topic, it'll be interesting to see how BT interacts with Lexie's portrayer. Could this be a hit that exceeds TB's portrayal and popularity? We've seen this in soaps before. When you're so used to TB, who really created the character, it'll be interesting to see if a proven talent like BT can not just meet, but exceed, expectations. |

I'm sad that Boyd can't reprise the role. I wonder if Todd will be on contract. With her son coming to town she might have a story. |

Totally love your thinking on this and I too am ready to see how BT does in this role and to see where the Carver's marriage is when Celeste shows up. |

You have vayring degrees of characters on soaps. Some characters like Austin, Stephanie, Abigail, or even Mike and Bill Horton, lack definition and therefore are easily recast. Maybe it's because the character is generic and bland, or maybe the first actor's take on the role is forgotten over time and therefore the fans are more open to change. This is even the case with Billie. Even though Rinna originated the role, the character was "run of the mill" enough to allow for recast. Then you have legacy characters protrayed by certain actors that cannot be negotiated. They may not be standout characters with crazy traits, but they make the role work and they are the only answer. Can you imagine another John Black, Marlena Evans, Hope Williams, Alice Horton, or Maggie Horton? They aren't evil. They don't have such complex character traits that no one else could do the role. HOWEVER, the role is theirs and depends on them. There have been times when legacy characters like those mentioned, or in close proximity on the fame scale to the above listed performers, have been recast. Jack deveraux, Jennifer Rose Horton, Kimberly Brady, Carrie Brady, Roman Brady, and Bo Brady have been recast. The only honestly good recast was Drake taking on Roman. RKK was ok as Bo, but the MINUTE Reckell returned, we all kinda collectively thought "What the Hell? We missed this guy enormously and didn't even reralize how much we needed THIS Bo. History proves those characters need to be left off the canvas if the true actor is unavailable. THEN you have the group I call the uniques......Anna Dimera, Calliope, Eugene, Vivian Alamain (Marj Dusay did ok with Vivian, but that was before "Buried Alive", when Sorrel made the role her own), Kristin Blake, Ivan, Steve Johnson, Stefano Dimera, Victor Kiriakis, and.........Celeste. Some are funny, some are quirky, and some are just plain Evil, but all have put their fingerprints deeply into a role and claimed it. It has nothing to do with screentime really. It's about influence, characterization and writing, and the way a character impacts the canvas. Kate is a recast, Laura has been recast, and strangely due to either enough time passing or the new actresses acting ability and talent, it worked. It has been some time since Celeste has turned over her tarot cards and said "Daaaahling", but in a strange way, she is a character that was a product of the third "Glory Age" that this show had in the 1990's. She is the epitome of 1990's grace, complexity, and ovrt the top cheesiness. She was a character perfect for her era, with the perfect actress to pull it off. She's not Deidre Hall, Kristian Alfonso, or even Ari Zucker, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to follow her and take on Celeste. Todd is a pro. She is an incredible talent with a knack for pulling off complex characters. Sattia was right to tap her if M&D were intent that Celeste HAD to be involved. I am more that willing to give an actress with Todd's range a chance, and welcome her, but one shouldn't under-estimate Tanya Boyd';s influence. |

From the Schulyer video that someone else posted, it looks like Todd WON'T be trying the infamous accent, so I think that helps her chances with the fans. |

Don't shoot but... I was never a fan of Celeste. A total throw away character IMO; the voice, the character, her visions...like nails on a chalkboard. |
