SOD: Days First Gay Kiss Sparks Controversy Will's first gay kiss on February 23 has generated a passionate response from Days of Our Lives viewers, who are divided in their opinion. "Been a longtime viewer of Days for over 50 [years]....the day [two] men kissed could be my last episode. I realize that in today's times people think that it is all right, but [it's] pretty sickening to me," D.S emailed Digest. In sharp contrast, M.R. wrote to us saying, "I have never been so proud of the show as I was when I watched Will's first kiss with another guy. That was the most intense and real depiction I have seen for a 'first kiss' on daytime between two guys. Thank you, DAYS, for showing how it is and for not watering it down. Will has tried to hide himself away for his entire life. I am so glad he finally acted on his true feelings and I cannot wait to continue watching him come to terms with being gay. Chandler Massey [Will] has been amazing with this story thus far!" The show is also getting feedback from fans. Co-Head Writer Marlene McPherson tells Digest, "We are hearing [from] fans that they could relate to what Will is going through and they are glad we are taking a chance to portray something in such a realistic way." Deidre Hall (Marlena) adds, "With the possible exception of the 'possession' storyline, I have never been so besieged by fans as I was this weekend wanting to talk about the Friday show and Will's confession about kissing a man. We had shot the scenes so long ago I had forgotten that I literally held my breath as Chandler played the scene. I was stopped by fans, actors, and even a photographer who wanted to tell me he wept during the scenes. I wrote a thank you to the fans for supporting the storyline on my Facebook page. Over 200 posts talked about what the Friday scenes meant to them. Well done, everyone!" Credit: http://secondchanceslumi.com/topic/6692371/1/ |

People are entitled to their opinion. As long as they don't try to keep people down who cares. Let that person turn off their set. What's pissy would be trying to get the show cancel. This does not sound like the kiss caused controversy. More Like some people were not happy. Dead baby sex caused a bigger controversy. |

Yeah. I guess so. But I really don't see anything controversial about Will's story. If Will was like Desperate Housewives' Andrew then I could see controversy. That kid was great! He slept with his mom's sexholic boyfriend! Man, I loved that kid! His mom ditched him on the side of the road. Now that's some controversial stuff. And they didn't ruin Bree to make it happen. The good news is it seems there was just as many people that loved the kiss as hated it. I guess ratings will do the talking. As a huge supporter of this story it will suck if ratings don't tell me what I want to hear. But the viewership for these shows is such a small demographic. I can't believe though in this country we even discuss a kiss like this. In most other countries it would be status quo... . |

I love that Chandler's biggest cheerleader is a legend like Deidre Hall. It's just so awesome. I love what she said, and I am so happy with how beautifully Chandler has played this storyline, and how wonderfully they've written his relationship with Marlena. |

In a way, I pity those bigots. They are without gay friends. |

I am glad they brought in DH because she is helping making this s/l that masterpiece that it is and Hall is the perfect voice of support from an older generation. I love Massey and Halls relationship on and off screen they are so cute. |

These are the ratings from the week of Will's Kiss. I think it was on Thursday? Monday 2/20: 1.8/2,570,000 Tuesday 2/21: 1.8/2,370,000 Wednesday 2/22: 1.8/2,428,000 Thursday 2/23: 1.8/2,582,000 Friday 2/24: 1.8/2,497,000 It looks like the kiss was the highest rated episode of the week, but they lost viewers the next day. |

I think what's more telling is for last week. If ratings still stayed pretty much the same it's a win. But if they dropped a lot maybe not so good. Then again the promo they showed of Will's kiss for last week was after the fact so it made no sense. I thought I saw something on the dvr part where DOOL did much better when that is taken into account. Edited by michr544125, Mar 8 2012, 07:23 PM.

Love how D.S has watched Days for over 50 years even though it only premiered in 1965. I wonder which show he/she thought they were watching for 3 years prior to that :blah: Also, I would really be interested in what this person thought about all the murders/rapes/violence that has gone on during Days 4...I mean 50 years on the air.......oh wait how silly of me 2 men kissing is the most vile thing that can happen on television :shame: |
