^in some ways this is why I feel SOD is better at picking winners than the other actors are. SOD is relatively impartial and they generally watch everyday so they know what the whole year was like for each soap.

Wow...GOD FORBID DAYS win ANY Emmys....I absolutely HATED the writing on DAYS, but the episode that won them the Emmy was a VERY GOOD episode and IMO very deserving. And even though I hate the fact that MarDar are Emmy winners...based on the rules of how Emmy's are won, they won it fair and square for one of their best episodes that they wrote.

Y&R and GH Writers - PLEASE remove the ENTITLED stick lodged up your asses and GET OVER YOURSELVES!!

Seriously, the other shows are such cunts...I mean...REALLY...they are gonna complain about DAYS winning a major award, something they have not done in 30 years....just STFU and go home and look at your trophy case full of half deserved Emmys!

Who decides what episode to submit for the writing? I think it strange that TPTB knew enough to know that the episode, including JnJ in the cabin, was powerful, but that the same PTB decided to showcase the PTSD and JnJ as little as possible.

Missy is one of Corday's favorites, the last thing he wants it to make her uncomfortable so she leaves again.

Now see, this is something I don't understand, even though I've been a big fan or hers (grain of salt, as I'm more a JnJ fan than an MR fan). But she isn't in the young bracket.
When you put it in the context of Corday recently referring to Sami and her crowd as 'the kids' it becomes more clear.

Getting giddy about ED likely to return.

ED will be golden in scenes with so many people...Both DH and JM, but looking forward to her scenes with JS, AZ, and LK. :cheer:

Monkey paw is the like the flip side of something happening...like a "be careful what you wish for"

So money paw of ED returning would be that she only comes back to play Susan or to be killed off.

You can thank JS for starting the monkey paw thing.

Well someone (either the show or an insider) needs to piss or get off the toilet already re: ED. I've been patient -- mostly because I've felt little to no investment -- but I need to know if I'm going to be watching this show again or not. If not, I'll be happy to say sayonara for good, but I'd like to know either way.

I'm telling you...idk why I didn't pick up on that at the time but that one quote summarizes everything that's wrong with the show.

Caylee, "monkey's paw" has been explained at length somewhere on the board already. Basically, "be careful what you wish for, as it might not come as you had hoped and expected." It comes from a short story in which an old couple gets a monkey's paw. They wish upon it that they will get money. So their son dies, and they collect the money from his death benefit. Then they wish him alive again, and he comes back zombie/corpse-like, so they have to use their last wish to wish him dead again.

We've seen lots of monkey's paw scenarios on the show already:

Yay! MarDar are gone. Oh, wait, they're bringing Tomlin back.

Yay! Jack's back. Oh, wait, they're going to dress him in awful sweaters, never use him, and get rid of him.

Possibly: Yay! ED is back. Oh, wait, both Susan and Kristen are in love with Dr. Jonas and/or Rafe too.

It should be easy to figure out WHO they are referring to when they say people are talking bad about DAYS' writing win. Who are the writers on Twitter? It obviously wasn't Ron Carlivati because I follow him and he rarely tweets anymore, not to mention he wasn't nominated. It wasn't Valentini. I'm guessing its someone from Y&R because I follow almost all of the GH people and I've seen nothing.

Maybe if we all call Corday Productions and piss them off enough they'll send out the memo to SOD early.

this is a great example of the start of Kristen's journey to become a true Dimera for those who never watched the character.
THIS IS WHAT'S LEFT OF JOHN & MARLENA!!!

That scenes made me fall in fucking LOOOOVE with the character of Kristen.

On a side note, I really miss the old DiMansion...

I feel so ignorant, but what was the drama between MR and JB? I started watching the show around this time, and I just remember a different actress playing the role of Jennifer (and Mark Valley as Jack....i loved him so when I was 12). So I have no idea what passed between Missy and Jason Brooks. If this is off-topic, I apologize.....but if someone could PM me or just link me to a source, I would be so very appreciative. I am all sorts of interested now! =)
Melissa Reeves had an affair with Jason Brooks while she was married to husband Scott Reeves (Steve, GH; ex-Ryan, Y&R). When Scott found out, he apparently told her to quit the show or he would divorce her. Missy ended up breaking her contract and I believe the show tried to sue her.
ok so then why would Ken C take her back after behaving like that?

that was so unprofessional. #justsaying

Beth's Days page had a very comprehensive summary with sources.
http://web.archive.org/web/20080828123415/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/missy.html

Here's a portion of it - mods, let me know if too much of the article is quoted:
Quote:

On Sept. 12, Corday Productions, Inc. (co-owners of Days) filed a breach of contract suit against Melissa Reeves, the wife of Scott Reeves, in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The suit, which is a matter of public record, seeks: Actual damages expected to be in excess of $770,000, according to proof; to prevent Reeves from acting on another daytime drama while still under contract to Days; all legal fees pertaining to the case; and for such other and further relief to the extent that the court deems it proper. "Ms. Reeves' services and her role on Days of Our Lives were truly unique," states the suit.

Reeves, whom the suit alleges "was being paid in excess of $500,000 per year by Corday...and was one of the two lead female characters on Days," stopped reporting to work early last November. Although the actress was contractually bound to Days for one more year, the filing alleges that in a phone call on November 10, 1995, "Ms. Reeves was crying, and stated that the reason she could not come to work was that her husband, Mr. Reeves, had insisted that she leave the show because of a previous extra-marital affair between Ms. Reeves and one of the other significant male performers on Days." Said performer was not named.

The suit continues: "Ms. Reeves stated that she regretted having engaged in the estramarital affair and that the affair had concluded at or around Labor Day weekend."

ETA: You're right AHM. Both JB and MR swear that's just a false rumor.
Allegations were made. Innuendo ran rampant. But nothing was ever "proven" as "fact." Because the people involved weren't talking. The lawsuit never went to court. So the only place where anyone was "convicted" was in the court of public opinion.

There are alternative explanations to what happened, but they're not titillating enough, so no one wants to hear them! lol.

When it comes to the Best Writing Emmy, I think they should have to submit a full week of episodes. It's easy to write one decent stand-alone episode, but it's a little harder to write fives episodes in a row that are cohesive and compelling and consistent with story threads that aren't dropped and characters whose personalities don't change every five minutes. That's part of what they should be judged on. Soaps are serials. Their stories don't start and end in one episode, so why should they be judged on only one episode for the Emmy?
I don't even know if the show should be watched when judging writing- good actors can spin crap into something watchable. Why not just give a storyline summary, broken down month by month? So if you see three months of "Carrie tells Rafe about her feelings" or if something like "Victor confesses to stealing Maggie's frozen eggs and giving them to a friend," or perhaps you know that writing team probably doesn't deserve an award. They can spin a separate award for the people writing actual dialogue, if they don't have that already.

Still, people shouldn't be openly bitter to the point where scolding via Twitter is necessary. That's just childish.

The ED tweets are promising. I'm with those who want some official confirmation already, because it's getting to a point where the enthusiasm will be tainted by "it's about f-ing time." I think they need some pure unbridled giddiness. I know I do.

I'm almost hoping we'll get an inserted scene this week just showing a woman's hands, or something mysterious like that. That would be a great way to slowly add her to the show again, use her like Alistair Crane on Passions for a month or whatever until taping catches up in September.

I can gurantee that the writers are not smart enough to do something like this.

The only reason I can see them wanting to be so secretive is if Eileen/Kristen is incorporated in the cliffhanger before the Olympics. They might want to keep the shock value. But at this point, they should just come out and say it... we've all heard about it by now.
