Kristen doesn't need a made up family to give her a purpose on the show. She already has one. Even if new viewers don't know who she is, once they realize she's Stefano's daughter they'll understand her place on the show. But frankly, I don't care what they think, LoL. I watch (or don't watch) this show for me, not for them. |

Do we really need BOTH Kristen and Susan back?? How about just Kristen for now? This cast is so large and dense that they don't even know what to do with the characters they have... |

Don't get me wrong. If Kristen is returning, I'm happy. She was highly entertaining in the 90s. However, I just can't get behind the whole "this move is going to save DAYS" bandwagon. Jack and Jennifer's return did nothing. Tony DiMera's return did nothing. Firing 10 beloved actors and bringing them back months later did nothing. Steve and Kayla's return did nothing. Stefano's return did nothing. Anna's return did nothing. Carly's return did nothing. John, Marlena, Carrie and Austin's return did nothing. All of those characters have had as much "hey days" as Kristen ever had. They did nothing. She'll do nothing. It's still the same old, "leaning on a specific character to bring up ratings with subpar writers." It will be nice to see Kristen one last time though. Will she be the savior of this show? I doubt it. |

And you and me and other viewers will be satisfied by her return. The majority of the audience might not. And that is the only point I'm making. Kristen Blake is not going to save this show. Period. It will be nice to see her again though. |

Exactly! Remember our excitement a year ago??? ... little did we know that waiting for MarDa aka "MerDe" would turn out the way it did...with the eggbaby sl asitheir first "highlight"!!! Sorry, just the half-empty glass type, especially when it comes to Days. |

I doubt anyone thinks Kristen is going to bring up the ratings. No character can do that anymore, it's all about the story. But what she can do is to inject some life into this show again because right now it's extremely dull. |

I don't disagree with you. Who said her return will save the show though? |

Sony obviously does. That's why they fought so hard to bring her back. And there have been a few posts implying the same thing. It's the same cycle it's been for the last 15. |

I agree. Kristen DiMera is just the shot in the arm that this boring ass show needs. |

Posts saying "Kristen's return is just what the show needs," and "DAYS needs Kristen back to make things more interesting," etc. are implying that. Hell, Sony fighting so hard is also implying the same old thought of one character's return bringing success to the show. |

I don't see anyone saying that she will save the show, just that it's good news for the show. |

ITA! But I think they are going to go for camp and plot driven drama. Like the Reilly 90s. IMHO, KC and Meng tried to save DOOL by going back to the 80s with the reboot - return of super couples, vets, and "character driven" story. But the reboot failed horribly because of the complete incompetence of MarDar. (IMHO that Emmy writing belongs to the Cullitons that wrote the episode, NOT MarDar.). So TPTB are throwing out the 80s model. Now they will try to go back to the 90s with Kristen/Susan, return of The Phoenix from the dead, and lots of plot driven twists and turns. Will be interesting to see if T/W are better at recapturing the 90s than MarDar were with the 80s. For me, I LOVED the super couple 80s at DOOL and tuned out for the 90s. The shows in those 2 decades were completely different shows. But I think fans from the 80s and 90s will agree that the 21st century at DOOL has been a mud slide of disappointment. So for DOOL's sake, I hope T/W succeeds. The show can't please all the fans. So it needs to develop a coherent vision and just stick with it. Like I said, I didn't like the 90s, but a lot of other fans did. ETA "family centric super couple 80s"! 80s was NOT just about romance. Loved the family dynamics! Like Pop favoring Kimberly Brady, etc. Edited by happy, Jun 26 2012, 04:47 PM.

Kristen DiMera written from 1994-1998 is just what this show needs. Who's to say she's still going to have that spark she had back then? The whole entire show was in a different place back then. Everything. I'm having trouble having any faith in the show being able to recapture that magic. Especially with Tomlin/Whitesell writing. In my mind, Kristen is going to come back the same way every other popular character came back: a shell of their former self. And a big disappointment to those fans hoping to see the same character, written the same way. Edited by DrewHamilton, Jun 26 2012, 04:43 PM.

"Kristen's return is just what the show needs" is not the equivalent of "Kristen's return is going to save the show and take it to #1 in the ratings." |

I think that Susan is necessary to appear at least once or twice. I have so many questions about EJ that have been bothering me since 2006. Like how was Susan allowed to raise him in England with Edmund when Stefano thought she was locked away into slavery? Why didn't Stefano end her when he realized it was really Kristen down there? Did he even realize it was Kristen? Then add in the mess that they've made with EJ's paternity and you really need Susan to play all of those beats out. |

LoL, allow me to modify my previous post then. "Kristen DiMera, if written properly, is just the shot in the arm that this show needs." |

Personally, I think Eileen's return is to please the older viewers, and Greg Vaunghan will be to appease them and the rest. |

"Saving the show." "Making it successful." "The return is just what the show needs." All the same thing. Maybe it's just me being burned too many times that's preventing me from getting as excited. I'm just going to be so disappointed if Kristen comes back to serve the role Stefano serves with EJ. Not saying that Kristen should be leading stories, because I don't think that at all. I'm a firm believer of "passing the torch." But I'm just worried about what Kristen will come back to do and how she's going to be written. |

I'm wondering whether Eileen Davidson wasn't SUPPOSED to play Susan during that brief appearance as a means to slowly reintroduce the character and DAYS went to SONY who went to Y&R before she was even approached (to clear it with them 1st as a courtesy), but when Y&R shot them down THAT'S when they went with a recast. I have a suspicion that this has been in the works BTS since then and Susan/Kristen was originally supposed to factor much more heavily into the EJ paternity story (which might explain some of the strange storyline pacing/flow if it was nixed by Y&R causing DAYS to have to rewrite things). |
