Well, whenever some people leave that opens the door for them to bring other people on. So yeah. That’s kind of what happened. If I had ever had a chance, I wish I could have switched the Devereaux name for DiMera. It's kind of gold plated.

So I guess we can rule out the theory that ED and/or GV hirings had nothing to do with re-offering MA to come back during that time the Diva (I think) tweeted that MA was the one considered. Very telling quote about being a DiMera.
I didn't take that quote as "I was fired to pay for Eileen." I took it as "I was fired because Sony/NBC (whoever is in charge) don't value Jack as much as other characters (i.e. the DiMeras)." There's plenty of room on the canvas for both Matt and Eileen, especially with all the dead weight they could get rid of to free up cash. They just don't want to write for Jack for whatever reason. That's not Eileen's fault.
I'm not blaming the actor. If ED was offered the role and she took it good for her, but this is a business. We've heard for years that DAYS has a tight budget. Why wouldn't the hirings of both GV and ED be a factor in not re-hiring Matt or even Peter. It's just TPTB are willing to spend on certain people and not others. ED plays a DiMera and GV is going to play the brother of the overused and overhyped character in DAYS...Sami. That's who TPTB want to focus on...so that's who they're willing to pay for.

This is a very gratuitous comment, because I've said it already and it serves no productive purpose in the greater discussion, but ugh, I love this man. I am going to miss him so much, and I'm filled with such a sense of bitersweet sorrow, regret and indignation.

Ugh I hate you DAYS, I hate you. I may in a moment of weakness act as if I've forgiven you, but it'll pass and I will hate you forever for this.

I understand what you're saying. I just don't think Eileen's return has anything to do with their willingness to pay or not pay for Matt. I think they would've let him go regardless. They already weren't writing for him long before Days and ED worked out a deal, and they fired him before it was even certain Eileen was coming back. This isn't a budget issue, IMO. It's an issue of Sony/NBC (whoever is in charge) not wanting to write for Jack.

I don't know if we can conclude that it's an explosion, but it definitely seems like Salemites will be seriously considering that he's dead.

Bring back Jack!

Fantastic Interview and I agree with everything said about Matt. He is so classy and intelligent. I hate Days for their total lack of respect for him and his character. Thanks for asking the best questions. I believe this is probably the best interview of his I've ever read. Thanks for that.

BTW I don't take any credit for this interview I just passed on a tip off and the info. The interview is all down to you guys here at DR.

Up way, way too late reading this, but it was a fantastic interview. So glad he said what he did about Missy.

His comment about trading Deveraux for DiMera made me a little sad, but I get it. The DiMeras have definitely been a hub for the writers' energy for many years, and it's sad that someone like Jack who had two ex-wives, a daughter, a romantic rival, a sister, a nephew, and many old friends couldn't get the kind of attention that would make his presence gel better... that the show doesn't spend some energy developing other things. (If I'm a little nervous about ED's return, this is the reason -- it gives them an excuse to put most of their eggs in that DiMera basket.) I know they tried with the PTSD story and that was well-received, but as MA points out the development wasn't there, and for this issue I think it had to be.

What a shame to let him go...shit we can figure ways to work Jack into the show and make him interesting - why can't they?
Love how he admitted his wardrobe was lame and suited for a professor lol.

Great interview. Matt is just awesome! I love him and I hope he returns soon. Getting rid of SC and GG are perfect way of freeing up some money to get him back.

Great interview! Thanks, Lysie!

I'm so glad Matt finally had a chance to talk in depth about so many aspects of the last year, leading up to and including the Emmys.

As for confirming the ED and GV hirings, I didn't get that. Sounded like he just played off the question asked. Since he's been away from the studio for over a month now, I doubt he's in a position to really know for sure the latest happenings there, but he's probably seen some of the same rumors we've seen and come to similar conclusions.

It's sad to think about all the potential that was never realized for the character. Yet another opportunity squandered by all those "cooks in the kitchen." And I have no interest in watching the aftermath of yet another Jack Deveraux demise.

Still, it was nice to read this interview and to get answers to so many of our questions.

I thought the same thing.

Fantastic interview. I don't know what you guys to get people that comfortable, but damn. Very interesting.

It's all sort of...sad, imho. It was a waste. I was so excited about the Jack/Abby dynamic, I think Jack could be a great supporting character, and reading this interview I really like the actor. Such a shame.

Another ambiguous departure doesn't thrill me, either. If the show lasts long enough for him to come back again, we're right back where we were a year ago with Jack ditching his family and all that, or with his family giving up on him when he's in trouble. Hopefully it's less ambiguous, like he goes off with full family support to get help or something. Or to go take care of JJ.

I'm confused...

Was this statement:

It was there to push some buttons for Sami.[/
Enjoyed reading Matt's interview and his take on what's going on at Days. His statement about the safe house explosion explains to me everything that is wrong with the show. I was expecting some great emotional scenes for the vets when I first read about the SL, but it became Sami centered as usual.
Hoping Matt gets to return at some point!

I personally think he's offbase in regards to the DiMeras. The last name didn't really help Chad or Lexie and hasn't helped Tony. He would need to change his first name to EJ or Sami.

Great interview. Matt really is a class act. I do hope that if Jack is presumed dead again that they go the amnesia route for his return.

I love this man so much. TFP.

ETA: And this confirms a lot for me:

Quote:

What’s made me really sad is that many times Missy has come under fire for things she’s had nothing to do with. Women get blamed. Some really really cruel things get said and written, which makes me sad. And unfortunately these people claim to be fans of mine, and then they say these things that are kind of cruel and heartless against someone I’m working with, and they don’t think that that might affect working relationships.

If he's being honest, then that fits my perception of the situation to a tee.
MTE.

Great interview. Thoughtful honest and classy.

It's at the least confirmation that he knows something is in the works (otherwise he would have said, "What?!"), which is interesting in and of itself because he hasn't been to the studio in a while. It could be that he's chatting with someone from Days on the phone, but it seems more likely that Eileen has been in talks for a while and that the news trickled down to the cast.
