Great interview and MA is always an interesting and classy interview subject.

Sounds like he's being as diplomatic and positive as he can be, given the situation. And I always find his take on things thought-provoking. I agree J&J needed conflict, not a quick fix, although I still loathed the J/J/D triangle. But Jack walking away and dating other women would have been a welcome twist, rather than having him take all of Jennifer's emotionally abusive crap. So would having him actually call her on that crap--and on her refusal to be there for him, even as a friend, when he needed her most.

He's much more charitable about his interpretation of Jennifer's "happy man" tirade than I am. I thought it was one of the nastiest, cruelest, most insensitive things she could say to him given his present circumstances. There are times when it's appropriate to criticize your spouse's character flaws and low sense of self-worth, but not when he's suffering from PTSD and hanging by a thread as it is. It just made Jen-Jen look shallow, self-absorbed, and mean, and MR's shrewish delivery of that speech didn't help one iota.

It's also illuminating that MA has confirmed what most of us suspect: that there's a major tug-of-war going on BTS, everyone has a different vision of what DAYS should be, and no one really knows what's going on. Based on what he says and doesn't say, it seems pretty clear that T&W are the ones who don't want to include Jack in their plans. They're all about making the show exactly the way it was before the re-set (lots of luck with that, morons!), rather than taking what's there and improving it. So as long as they're in charge, I'm not holding my breath that MA will return, which is depressing but no worse than when news of his latest firing just broke. On the other hand, if T&W 2 fail to deliver higher ratings, I suspect they'll be gone faster than you can say "MarDar."

Thanks for doing this interview!

Come on Ron, We are counting on YOU !!

Awesome interview, another good one by DR.

I have to say that I don't get the impression that he's returning now, which bums me out and I do wonder if Days scoring Eileen has pushed the possible returns of CC and MA off.

It's obvious to me that someone else and not the EP is in control here....this HAS to be about NBC/Sony with very little input, if any from Corday Productions. Notice he kept saying there are too many cooks in the kitchen while saying that Corday and Meng are on his side...meaning it does seem that NBC or Sony were the ones that pushed for certain characters to leave...and when asked directly about comments that were attributed to him in ATL, he said that is not what he meant. I am not sure how anyone can misinterpret that NBC wanted a 'younger' looking cast...meaning that they were focusing on the over 38s and seeing what if anything they can do to add youth to the cast, or have it focus on the younger generation more....when you look at the departures all of the firings are people over that target age, no? I think he's back peddling a little because he probably got chewed out for that comment, but you know what....the firings prove it to me...however, then they hire Eileen, who isn't 38 or younger...so who knows what the hell they want.

Thanks for another great interview. The questions were great and Matthew's responses are so thoughtful and informative.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Matthew and his alter ego Jack will be missed. I wish him all the best and I hope that someday soon the people making the decisions decide Jack is needed in Salem.

Re. Eileen, we don't even know for how long they want her back. I'm not saying it will be short, but ... I'm not sure we can say it'll be long either. So yeah, she's over 38, but she could amount to stunt casting in the end. (Not that I think that's what Kristen and Eileen are worth, but it's TPTB, no accounting for taste.)

It's obvious the team at DAYS isn't in charge. EP's or Head writers can change on a daily basis and it means
nothing as long as the people higher up are still there dictating down.

I fast forwarded most if not all of the safe house scenes, but I don't see how it was for Sami. What did she even had to do with it?
There was more Austin/Carrie/Rafe business than Sami. I presume that character is an easy target to blame since it's one of the airtime higher ups.

I love man! What a class act!

I do feel kind of badly for some of the things I posted during the Missy blow-up - in the heat of the moment, I was harsher than I intended to be. However, speaking for myself here, my recent complaints about Missy have never been about what was playing on screen - I mean, I haven't been impressed with her work since she came back, but that had nothing to do with my anger. And ultimately, I never sent anything hateful to her... so unless she reads this board, which I doubt she does, her feelings have not been hurt by me.

I have just been completely turned off by her total disregard of JnJ fans- that has been my problem with her. She's been tweeting up a storm with Dannifer fans, and saying nothing at all to the longtime fans who had supported her since she first came on. It's hard not to get upset by that.

I'm genuinely happy to hear there is no conflict between Matt and Missy though- Jack and Jen were one of my favorite supercouples... who wants to see the actors who make that pair fight? Certainly not any of their fans. However, I don't think the assumption that they didn't get along was absurd. Missy has been blocking fans who are supporting Matt. She blocked me when I only sent her one tweet (ever), when I was just telling her that Matt trended. It looked way bad. I'm glad that's not the case though.

Anyway, thank you DR for the great interview! It's made me love Matt more if that's even possible. I admire Matt's class! What a great man! I really hope the show smartens up and brings him back!

Excellet, excellent interview. I'm going to miss the holy Hell out of Matt/Jack. Such a shame they couldn't or wouldn't write for him. Love his ED "confirmation." He fucking rocks. And the wardrobe question made me LOL. Thanks so much!!!

As always, Matt is much more gracious about the whole situation then any of these people deserve--and that's all I'm going to say about that.

Thanks for the great interview, DR.

Wow. What a fantastic interview, DR!

Matt is always just so open, honest and himself. I love and respect that about him. He never ceases to amaze me on how he always turns things around to the positive side.

So much information given in this interview to pull out and dissect. Glad he cleared up the MR stuff. I know I was questioning things myself so I will happpily just lay it to rest.

I wish we were able to see more of the PTSD stuff. I wish we were able to see Jack pursue other women, all the while keeping an eye on Jennifer. I wish there was more hope for his return right now. I wish alot of things were different. Such is the life of a MA/Jack/J&J fan I guess.

Thanks for the interview, DR!

Yeah. I think he was definitely back peddling with those comments. He had no choice. I cringed when I saw that was posted attributing it directly to Matt because of course it came back to bite him in the ass. My assessment was Matt was still processing it all when he went to ATL. He was pretty honest and raw from the experience. For that reason, I would never post several of the things he said there out of respect for him. I agree based on the firings and what we have seen, it is pretty obvious that is what NBC believes. We'll also see how much play the older vets get as we head into the fall. That may be even more telling.

His comment about too many cooks in the kitchen does serve as further confirmation (as if we needed any) that this BTS stuff is complete and utter chaos. Ugh.

I agree. I was confused also on how the safehouse stuff was about Sami which is why at first read I assumed he was talking about the Olympic cliffhanger explosion and giving away a spoiler of sorts.

I took the reference to the safehouse to be the scene he was in. Everyone, including Jack and Jennifer, was at the pub when the news arrived that those in the safehouse were killed. There was chaos and then the scene honed in on Sami's reaction. It did become about Sami. And he, as an actor standing there in that scene, saw that. Anyway, that's my take.

Now don't come whoopin' my ass at the grocery store cause I picked on your fav on here!

I don't think I commented on this earlier. Whoever did this interview hit all the right topics, and asked all the right questions. Thank you so much DR for a great interview.

This man seems to be someone I would love to know personally. He is such a great person.

Almost makes me want to forgive MR for her actions. Unfortunately, I do not contain as much class as Mr. Ashford, therefore I can't do so.

I wish him the absolute best in all that he does. May he go on to bigger and better, and more rewarding projects!

So would having him actually call her on that crap--and on her refusal to be there for him, even as a friend, when he needed her most.

Yes, I agree that all of this should have come into play. That is why this shouldn't have been true:
Quote:

When Daniel left town, I knew that wasn’t good for anybody. It wasn’t good for me; it wasn’t good for Jennifer, and it wasn’t so good for him. Maybe it will work out. I don’t know. But it certainly wasn’t a good sign for me.
It shouldn't have mattered. At that point (if ever) Daniel was completely unnecessary for JnJ to have conflict. The problem was the show's unwillingness to allow Jack to feel hurt by Jennifer (though, who wouldn't?) or to present Jennifer as being in the wrong or to make Jennifer fight for Jack (Why? That's when Jennifer shined the most).
MA is right about this:
Quote:

These characters need conflict. Maybe that conflict wasn’t the best conflict. I don’t think the audience cared for it too much. I think Jack took it all lying down.

The thing is, no, I didn't care for the given conflict, which was ostensibly that Jennifer was "torn." That was just lame, and the Jennifer-centric triangles have just gotten obnoxious, as has the whole Jennifer moves on from Jack when he goes missing or whatever thing, which is why she should have just exited with him. I'm not trying to be cruel to MR with that statement. I just think Jennifer has had this story too many times, and I hate it every time.

I would love for Jack to come back with amnesia, but I don't think it will happen. One, someone in charge doesn't seem to want him around. Two, they already did that with Steve. But then, they already did Jennifer moves on from Jack umpteen times, and they're going there again.

What a classy man! Smart, talented, articulate and a gentleman as well. I can't believe we're losing him again! But this is DAYS so hopefully he will be back and when that happens (I'm not going to say "if"), his character will get better treatment.
