That's one of the problems with this show- the actors that can play more then one-note are left to say the same lines, or are supporting players to far inept actors who's stories we've seen played like a broken record.
Maybe Rafe (since he tends to find stuff/ is a cop with resources at SPD) finds out something about Marlena's whereabouts on the night Stefano's shot but keeps it to himself and tells John who in turn keeps that information from Marlena. John struggles as it makes more and more sense in his head that Marlena could have shot Stefano. The more he keeps digging to exonerate her, the more guilty she becomes.
And the more he feels the need to protect her. That's a story right there. Marlena on her hand could be recieving threats on John's life, so she becomes a little withdrawn, making John more scared that something's happening to her. Big blow up fight. It just needs to remain in character. This show tends to show men who discover their other halves aren't perfect, running away. John doesn't do that. John would justify everything Marlena did, but want to know the truth so he could protect her. And there... you have a layer of complexity.
This is so true, what you're saying. They have Deidre freaking Hall, who drove the show for large parts of the 80s and large parts of the 90s, sometimes carrying most of the weight on her shoulders (she was the one used to promote the show to the audience, hers was the name used, her character was the one used to promote), and they've relegated her to not-even-supporting status. She's just a prop for people to yell at, talk to and then leave (by people I mean Sami, not Will. I love Will/Marlena). Even when they have great opportunities for moments where Marlena and John both can shine, they just end like the air goes out the balloon and nothing... The embezzlement story was a great opportunity for realistic conflict for J&M. Instead, conflict went to Sami, EJ, Austin, Carrie and Rafe, and J&M's fight that almost was, didn't actually really start. I do love that Marlena stood by John without even a question, that's in character. But they can have fights about other things than doubting one another. John withdrew... let Marlena tell him to stop being scared and letting her help. People fight in a marriage, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. Running away is cowardly, fighting is not.
And Marlena, while I love the romantic notion they're trying to give us, doesn't suddenly lack strength or will without John... she's just better off having him in her life because they do love each other. It doesn't suddenly make her weak if he's not there.
I don't know if Gary T stepped in and tweaked the script or not but the Ejole scenes are great! Yeah, EJ will be mad at Nicole for turning in the bullets..so what? He got over Sami putting a bullet in his head, I hardly think what Nicole did compares to that! Nicole and Sami both did what they thought they had to do to protect their babies from EJ Dimera....he knows that. Anyway, tomorrow's show is a gift to the EJOLE'S, with many more to come, I hope!
I really think we have a good chance to see EJ not only be there for the birth of this kid, but lets hope he gets to deliver it! I think Gary T "gets" that EJ needs to be at the birth of this one, more than any other kid he has.
OT-but does Ari know how bad those bangs look? Gawd, fire the hair people already!

Yep, nowadays if a couple has a fight or doesn't get the right answer from their spouse, they go fuck someone else. It used to be you went with your friend to talk to her/him/ have a beer, then come back and TALK things through and ultimately forgive because you love them.
With DAYS, DH is used as the ol' carrot and stick. Fans that grew up with her come to the book signings, see her on talk shows and have hope, but turn in disappointed because she's rarely on and has no story. Even the Will stuff is repetitive now.
Funny how AS, the airhog of the show, never does publicity for the show anymore.
I have a hard time believing that any scenes were added in yet. I do think some things have been edited out and we have evidence of that already, but I think the Days of them adding scenes in aren't here yet. I just think this was MarDar's idea of 'trying to please everyone'....notice how this weeks has 'good' moments for everyone. We have the week starting off with some very nice Lumi scenes, then this with Ejole and the kicking and all, and then the week ends with Ejami dancing after being prompted by Johnny. This is MarDar's bullshit still....Tomsell might tweak, edit out and we know there are some rewrites that apparently have Justin and Adrienne inserted somewhere, but I find it very hard to believe that Tomsell did anything here.

I HATE HATE those bangs. I also hate how DAYS doesnt dress Nicole showing her belly. What's up with that dress? I dont mind the color but those pieces of material hanging over the belly...they should of put her in something form fitting to really show her stomach.

I think the show is trying to figure out how far along she is. One minute she is barely showing, the next she has a bump, the next the baby is big enough to kick. I don't know much about babies and I know this is a soap but that's a fast growing baby, IMO.
Or maybe she's been preggers longer than we thought. Hmm...

I thought they pretty much established how many weeks she was pregnant when they had to wait a while to get the DNA test done. Didn't she have to wait till the 10 wk mark? It's been at least a month and a half since she got that test done no?
It's nice that they used Carrie and austins song that they danced too in the 90s like every episode on the roof top but they were not at lexis memorial

I remember that, that's part of the reason I'm confused. How big is the baby supposed to be at this point (RL)? It is big enough to kick and for someone to feel it? Big enough to show as much as she was at Stefano's funeral?

You are usually about 5 or 6 months along before someone else (in this case EJ) could feel the baby kick. I don't think it really matters because Days is always messing around with the timing of things on pregnancies.
The thing that IS stupid IMO is they wrote this scene as the first time Nicole felt the baby kick too. Nicole would've been able to feel the baby kick for weeks before someone else can feel it. Every woman who has been ever been pregnant knows that.

Since it's been a while since I had a baby, I needed to know this so I googled it....apparently you can start to feel the baby kick at around the 16 week mark. So I think it still fits and if she's 16 weeks that is 4 months and one can certainly show a little bit then.

That's about right, but I could always feel movement a few weeks before anyone else could feel by touching my belly. Its hard for anyone else to really feel the baby until much later, like six months. EJ and Nicole feeling it together for the first time couldn't happen. It's a bone for their fans which is fine. It's not that big a fact to overlook compared to some of the other facts they ignore.

I suspend belief in the soap world when it comes to medical issues. Ej gets shot in the head and carries on without any type of therapy. Lexie dies beautifully in her garden. I had a cousin with a serious brain tumor their was nothing beautiful of graceful about her death. The list of unbelievable goes on and on and if I can swallow those things then I can swallow this beautiful Ejole moment when they both feel the baby kick for the first time. It is as it should be IMO.
But after reading this thread I have one very important question. What the Hell does schmoopy mean?
Not to put a damper on the Lexie DVD scenes, but wasn't it just a couple of months ago, that Lexie was ready to dump Abe, end their marriage, over the Election fiasco? I still can't fathom how MARDAR expected fans to accept such a 360 turn around with this couple. I say RJ's departure from DAYs must have been a sudden request, because the SL just flow right. I'd really like to know when RJ submitted her resignation. MARDAR were dumb, but NBC & Sony???? No words!
My own personal theory is Baby EJole was kicking to get EJ's attention and say, "Help, Daddy! Get me out of here. Save me, please!"
Oh and I wanted to give kudos to James Reynolds. I'm no Abe fan, but I thought he did really good work with this material today! Bravo. He got me watching Lexie's video. :'(
I seriously can't watch this whole Brady/Ian trainwreck. UGH!!
I think, given some time, that Kayla and Abe could be OK. There's such foreshadowing about this.
This is the whole thing for Nicole for me-- one minute she's turning in EJ and the next she'll be protecting him. I'm not sure which version of Nicole I like either--
The show is almost done now and the only other thing I can say is I just don't like Roman-- Winston--whatever else you want to call him. If they are going to make Roman a character that's going to be shown more, PLEASE recast! So much could happen with Roman but not with this actor....
