But honestly, she's been on such a long time, and yet. . . I feel like Lexie's never really mattered much. Eh, I'm probably just bitter because they probably won't bother to give Jack a proper send off.

Yeah, this! Jack won't get this kind of send off, for sure. In any case, the more they trash the character, the brighter his first run shines.

I liked seeing Jack in a suit, but the wardrobe department still sucks. I've seen Jack wear nicer suits.

I hate that Jack had nothing to really say or do, and that Kayla was trashing Steve. The fact that they have to trash both Steve and Jack is proof of the lasting legacy and impact of these two great characters. TPTB just want to erase them and what they were really like from their canvas. Most of the current male characters are so bland and underwhelming that they can't compete with even the memories of characters like Jack and Steve.

Watching this show makes me realize why soaps are dying out. You don't know if to laugh, or cry. Nothing about this show screams "must see" tv. It's just so much nothing. It's just something to fill the timeslot. Most of the commercials are better, and more entertaining. And yet, TPTB are falling over themselves trying to keep this train wreck going. :shame:

Perhaps if I had been a Lexie fan, this episode would have been more enjoyable. This was a very good tribute to a character I cared nothing about. Jack never got, and will never get this kind of send off, but is very much deserving of such a send off.

P.S. Cameron can be added to the long list of boring, nondescript men on this show. Please free Abby from this dude. KM is too good to get stuck with him, permanently.

It's all perspective. We'll get Kayla's but it's impossible to get Steve's. It's how things have to be. I wish Steve were here to play this conflict but he's not.

Well, looks like MarDar were gonna pair Kayla and Abe, but Tomlin probably won't. They can just stay friends. It's too soon for more right now anyway.
Abe and Kayla is a bad idea any day of the week. There are not enough words to describe how unappealing I would consider such a pairing to be, and it has nothing to do with the racial aspect of it. Nothing at all. Let's face it. Abe is boring, and nobody's leading man by any stretch of the imagination. Kayla was once a great leading lady, and could still be one, with the right leading man. Abe is not that man. Together, these two characters would take boring to a whole new level. Their paring would be written as no more than a piece of fluff/crap/sensationalism anyway, so what's the point.

This show rips the very heart and soul out of all of its characters now. Nobody is ever really allowed to come across as living, breathing, feeling human beings. They walk about like robots with someone standing behind them pushing the buttons on a remote control device. Watching Abe and Kayla relate to one another in this way, at their age, would be more than a little awkward. Jack and Jennifer have already suffered this fate, and I know that Matt was trying as hard as he could to keep it real.

Sadly, I agree with Harcourt. I wanted a story for Kayla and Steve when their return was heralded. Instead, I got purple haze and a squandering of this pair. Now, Kay does Caroline. And Ava, damn, I don't even want to think about that since the horrendous Taylor. I never saw this actress in anything before, had read positive things, and just didn't like her character OR her boney stuttering portrayer.

I'm an enormous fan of Steve and Kayla, and that would always be my first choice if they were both on screen. And I'm not under any illusion that Abe and Kayla would be done well. But I liked the last scene between them, even if it was a little anvilicious. I think big life moments are the right time to bring characters that have been backburnered to the forefront again, and give them new dimensions to work with. They're both older and wiser now (although the older part won't win them any screentime, lol).

Great epi...finally! Seeing Ejami like that had my heart melting all over again. Nicole finally makes sense to me again...using sex to get what she wants works for her. Flashbacks, music, reminiscing...tears & laughter. It had it all. If only it would last...

So, I forced myself to watch the episode....and I am glad I did. The Lexie send-off was wonderful, and it was so fantastic to see all her friends and family together, sharing memories. And I am a sucker for flash-backs!! Loves the Sami/Brandon one - I miss that insane Sami sometimes. Love the ones of a younger Renee and JR -- they looked beautiful together past and present. Loved so much of this epiosde. Also liked that they at least made an effort to "call" and name Brandon - that would have been great if the actor could have been brought back for one or two episodes.

As for Ejami. well, gah...I am sorry you guys, but they make me so, so unhappy. It is rather amazing how just the sight of them together makes me want to walk away. I still don't see any more magical chemistry than I see AS or JS have with anyone else (with maybe the exception of AS and GG). That they played down the scenes didn't make a difference to me -- I would expect a somber, subdued tone. As always I think Sami came off as a somewhat watered-down version, and the dialogue was a bit heavy handed with all the "what us....yeah never....crazy....married to you...long time ago...that is what she thought. I don't subscribe to it....etc. etc." It also annoyed me that Allie was conveniently sick, so that she would not be shown with her brother and sister. But I guess Johnny and Syndey weren't there for Lumi's "family fun day" so I can't complain too much. Anyway, luckily my recording cutoff before the dance, but that also means I missed the reading of The Tempest, which bummed me out.

It makes me sooo sad to think of TPTB going full-force with this couple. Again, I don't want to spend too much time talking about them, but at the same time I have real frustrations and feelings I wanted to vent. So I have vented.

Otherwise a beautiful episode. I am glad Lexie/Renee got such a beautiful send-off. I initially didn't think I would miss her too much, but now I think I just may.

I never thought all that much about Lexie, but her send-off was nice. Of course, I can't stand Sami and EJ, so their scenes were just more what the hell is Sami Brady doing being chummy with her rapist, torturer, and son's blackmailer. This is just NOT who she is. Or was. Or whatever. She's bad enough IN character, but this is pure what da hell.

How can these IDIOTS fire MA and cut the best story line in YEARS? I am still so pissed about the PTSD non-story. And at Bitchifer. And at Daniel the SlimJimGreaseMan. Jack looked great today. Did he even say anything? Fuck you, Dool for this.

What I would really like to know is the age demographic for viewers. Their policy of ignoring anyone over 35 is such a mistake. I'm willing to bet money there are more watchers over 35 than under. I realize they want to suck in new and young viewers as if they had all the time in the world, but they don't, and you'd think they would TRY to please the loyal audience they have NOW.

What a wonderful episode. Still can't believe Lexie/Renee won't be on the show anymore. Marlena and those flashbacks got me. So sad.

Also, I actually liked Kayla and Abe today. I wouldn't mind if the writers went there with them.

I loved this episode. Honestly, I am just happy for a JnJ sighting at this point. I thought Jack's comment about saving the world was just an awkward Jack Deveraux attempt to cut tension. I didn't read much into it. Other than the fact that Kayla looks a bit needy at this point, forcing herself on Abe and all, this was a great episode.

I thought Kayla was trying to keep her promise to Lexie.

I think it's too soon for anything other than friendship and I hope the writers slow down and let Abe and Kayla deal with their respective feelings about Lexie and Steve.

tomorrow's episode sounds really good

I can't wait to see it, and I love the little recap of Lexie's history (good and bad) combined with flashbacks, it sounds like a very fitting tribute and send off, however it would have been nice if they would have mentioned that RoJohn was the one who set Abe and Lexie up, but other than that everything else sounds wonderful and I'm looking forward to seeing it

Thanks Pat and Skye :)
I just have to comment on your John and Marlena photo, I loved that moment and the kiss. They cut the scene to soon, it made me wanting to see more.

Just noticed that Roman didn't get a mention at all. Kind of strange.
I didn't even notice

Had a wedding yesterday afternoon, so I just finally got to watch yesterday's episode...

Wonderful work! I agree with Matt in saying this funeral was far better than the week-long tribute Alice got. Culliton did a fantastic job with the script. She remembered very important details in history, and had the characters say all the right things. Also, she did a great job interweaving the young and old. Seeing the older characters tell the younger characters stories of the past is really what soap operas should be about, especially ones so based on family as DAYS is.

I didn't mind not seeing the actual funeral because the reception afterwards made up for it. And it also allowed certain actors that weren't present on this day of filming to have real excuses for their characters not being around. We know Lucas and Will were at the funeral and took Allie home afterwards because she didn't feel well. Daniel was at the funeral, but went to the hospital instead of Chez Rouge afterwards. It would've been nice to hear someone make mention of Carrie not feeling well after the funeral, so Austin took her home. In my mind, everyone was at St. Luke's. For one reason or another, some didn't make it to Chez Rouge for the reception after.

The flashbacks were awesome! I was upset when we got none last week for Lexie's death, but the show definitely made up for that with today.

How amazing was it to hear DAYS use an actual song? It was a song all would know too, not something they had written themselves and had some unknown musician perform it, like they've been doing lately. Yes, it was Austin and Carrie's song, but so what! It fit the scene and I thought it was wonderful.

I was glad to see Sami and Lexie's history touched upon. I did find it kind of odd how EJ claimed to not know how bad things were between the ladies. Yes, EJ wasn't in town for the majority of Lexie and Sami's feud, but he showed up during one of their last go-rounds with Sami blackmailing Lexie to keep Austin and Carrie apart. He knew very well the two women hated each other very much. Oh well though. Who could blame EJ for forgetting when you had writers that never made any reference to the animosity for the last four years?!

At first, I didn't think I would pay much attention to Daniel and Nicole's scenes, but I did, surprisingly. Like Matt said, the movement throughout the episode probably helped. I love the chemistry between Zucker and Christian. And for the first time, there's a pairing with Daniel where the woman isn't throwing herself at Daniel and totally forgetting everything he's done in the past. Nicole throws Daniel's past in his face, just as easily as he could hers. I think that is one of the reasons the writing for these two hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would when I first heard they were being paired in scene/story.

me too! That was my favorite part of the whole episode, John and Marlena hadn't had a scene like that in a long time, it was nice to see them finally get a scene alone with just the two of them  , and yea they did cut it too soon, I would have liked to see more also but I guess at this point I'll take what I can get... The romance factor is seriously lacking from the show right now, J&M used to be one of the most romantic couples on the show and now they're barely even seen together :shame: ... I'm hoping TomSel can bring that back

Isn't that unknown musician usually Kelly Moneymaker? She pretty much has monopoly over music on this show.

Wow! I finally got to watch this epi, rather than just read it and it played just as well as I thought it would. What a fantastic character tribute and amazing script from Carolyn Culliton. The montage at the end and Marlena's reading had me in tears. All of the flashbacks we're so well-chosen and the rememberances gave such a great overview of the character - for good and bad. Lexie isn't even one of my all-time favorite characters, but this was so well-done that I really felt the loss. Kudos to the writers and actors.

The Dikki scenes were so good too. SC and AZ have fantastic romantic chemistry, which isn't a surprise, but I can't believe what good writing they are getting to capitalize on it. I love how they call each other out and seem drawn to each other because of their flaws. Fingers crossed that the writers don't mess this up by tossing around the L word in a week or two,

Ejami scenes were awesome too. I love the dynamic they have going now. It's so interesting to watch two people who, on one hand, know each other so well but, on the other hand, haven't been real with one another in literally years. I like the awkwardness, as well as the underlying concern and attraction that comes across. Seriously such great writing for them and AS/JS played the dynamic really well. I hope it continues.

Just a great episode all the way around. THIS is the show I remember.
