People can tune out whenever they want. From what I have seen a lot of the people who are tuning are upset because of the way their favorites have gotten trashed and thrown under the bus. If I don't get my favorite pairing at the end of the day oh well, but don't throw the characters I love under the bus and write them ooc to make another pairing work.

As someone who has no specific feelings for Lucas one way or another, even I feel bad for the actor/character from what I am reading (can't bring myself to actually watch). Numerous characters have had to undergo "reconstruction" in order to accomodate the Ejami frenzy, including EJ himself. They had to make him into a spineless, horny, whimpering shell of a man (a punk) in order to write the Ejami "love" story. He is completely destroyed in my eyes currently.

Lucas's shouting today was worse than described. They had BD play that way too over the top. It just gave me a head ache and made all 3 of them want to go away.
I wish he would shout himself to death. Can you die from that? I hope you can. I hope there one where you can be smug to death cuz it looks like there are a few that have the disease.

His screaming gets on my nerves, I am tempted to mute the scene when he is on.

His screaming gets on my nerves, I am tempted to mute the scene when he is on. He's starting to end up in Rafe smugness territory: in scenes with EJ I have to decide whether to FF and miss out on EJ or watch it and endure Luchihuahua :hmmph: (love the name, BTW). That's a tough choice. :shame:

I am watching today only for Lucas. Ej and Sami get my throw up award for worst non couple followed by Dancole. Ewww to both! Lucas is back to shrieking again. And the wardrobe dept clearly hates .BD.

Two weeks left of this writing then 'reset'! Tomlin has more grasp on the characters on screen, if they are going to be written in charcter, what happen between now and the Olympics is more than likely to change. we have had several actors allude this on separate occasions, what ever mardar planned will be discarded and only s/ls more in tune with TomSell will survive beyond the break. This cliffhanger will make so many characters realise life is too short to waste and the 30s age bracket needs this epiphany so desperately. The audience want charcters they recognise, that's why they tune in. When Lucas/EJ/Nicole/Sami/Rafe/Brady/Carrie/Austin and even Philip/Chloe/Stephanie, among others, act outside of their character's perimetres without any build up to speak of the audience doesn't invest and therefore viewers drop like flies.
IMO, most of the characters are being written well within their wheelhouse right now. Nicole has a long history of behaving exactly like she is right now with Daniel. Lucas has many years of shouting to get his point across, as opposed to the one month of more maturity that he displayed when he first returned, and once again, he's stuck in a tussle with EJ. Sami has been drawn to EJ since he came on the show. EJ has spent much more time being drawn to Sami than being "in love" with someone else. Rafe has regained the sanctimonious smug attitude that he lost for a couple of months. Brady hasn't been on enough to have a real story, but he seems completely in character to me. Carrie and Austi are completely in character: Carrie was always subject to falling for another guy, and Austin was always subject to being played for a fool.
Well, these in character/out of character debates could go on forever, and sometimes what is in character or out of character is eye of beholder stuff, how well someone knows a character, what traits they feel are more true to that character, etc. What Nicole is doing now and how in character that is, I don't know - I don't know enough the history of her character to know what is consistent or not. All I know is I really, really like her, and I don't like what is happening with her and Dan right now. You are right that Carrie is not being written out of character, in that she is a cheater, is often torn between men, and has played Austin before. But this storyline is so boring right now that I don't care. At least her feelings for Mike, that was a better written story where I remember believing it, and feeling conflicted as to whether I wanted her with Mike or Austin (I was a biitttt of a Caustin fan in the 90s....I was young). Even though yes technically it's in character for Carrie to have cheating tendencies, it's like the writers just led with that, and just threw Rafe into the guy role in that storyline. And that is why that had no build up. Austin is a fool and a doofus. But no incarnation of Austin I ever knew would be scrapbooking to get his woman back. After all they went thru to be together, this version of Austin seems especially neutered, in order to make the Cafe story stick even in its smallest measurement. I have liked PM's performances, but I think even he has said he was surprised by Austin's reaction thru this whole s/l. So that characterization has been disappointing too. It seems Rafe is being portrayed as either a smug asshole cop, or making puppy dog faces at Carrie. Like him or not, think that he is pretty much a smug asshole or not, that seems to be a pretty one, one and half dimensional portrayal as well. That is annoying. And now for Lucas. What gets me about his portrayal lately, and this episode in particular, is that these behaviors are NOT totally OOC for Lucas. Which is why it might stick for some. He is jealous, especially around EJ. He is insecure, prob since teenagedom. He has lost Sami to EJ before, so he prob feels esp possessive of his family around this perceived threat in EJ. I get all of it. Except for that Lucas is running off memories of what EJ is done, and prob what EJ is still capable of doing. I think he has a point, don't blame him. But what this set up enables to happen is for new audiences who would have no clue or evidence of that history, of those parts of EJ's character, to not know what Lucas is talking about, and just think he is the idiot and the baddie. And even old audiences will prob admit that Lucas's concerns are a bit of an overreaction based on what EJ has done or not done recently, a bit pre-emptive. So it's like, let's take everything that is negative about this character, blow it up 11-fold and condense it into five minutes, to make it even more pronounced. Let's have him react to the history of a character, rather than to something that character has concretely done in the past few days. Makes Lucas look like nothing but a possessive fool, with no grounds or reason for what he is saying, and EJ the victim or receiving end of Lucas's outta nowhere censure. That is annoying. It's like taking this character, distilling him down to his worst qualities, then magnifying those qualities, and constructing a context where he is the bad guy, and the bad guy he thinks is a bad guy is being shown as the opposite as a bad guy. That is why that whole confrontation felt very one-sided to me (for ex, the discussion about piss-poor parenting. And make it look like EJ has a stake in all of Sami's children - still can't get over that throw-away he cares about Allie line - and have Lucas very pointedly mention HIS family Will, Allie Sami. That seems just the teeniest bit suspicious). And on top of that, if the whole point was to put Ejami together, why bring Lucas into this? If the point was to crap on Lucas, that would be one thing. But if EJami was the intended result, why bother involving Lucas?! It's the same thing as "smearing" EJ's character to prop Safe. That was annoying to some. So this is annoying to me for the same reason. And because I really, really love Lucas (and Lumi, but more so Lucas at the moment), I find this portrayal, these particular decisions, especially insulting. It really just comes down to that. Characters before Lucas have been the victims of poor devicey writing, and character after him will be too. But right now it's happening with seemingly great deliberate effort to Lucas, and that upsets me to no end. I hear a lot of what you're saying about Lucas. And, having suffered similarly in the past as an EJ fan , I feel your pain.

Lucas' hair is to die for. Really? I thought he looked greasy. I suspect the show is going out of it's way to make Lucas look bad. Especially with things like that ridiculous blue bathrobe and the pastel peach man boob shirt.

Why is it I find Daniel decently enjoyable with Nicole when they aren't boinking, but painful in scenes as worried dad. It seems like he has no range when playing tormented. It all looks the same. So disappointing. At least, I got to see Bo and Hope in his scenes though. :)

I've almost completely tuned out. It wasn't a conscious decision...nor a boycott. It evolved slowly, I became less and less excited to watch. Before I would NEVER be home at 1pm and not at least turn it on. Now often days I AM home and I don't bother to switch it on. EJole is my favorite but I've watched when they haven't been coupled before, I watched during the entire Taylor fiasco (albeit with my hands over my eyes).
But the material they're giving Zucker to play is so horrible, I can't watch her try to act it. And all the pairings feel like Musical Chairs. It's basically going to be who's the last one standing as characters are eviscerated to make sense of the writing.
And I find nothing else worth my hour. I loved the EJill scenes but it used to be a nice surprise. Now it's like they got the memo they're popular and they're trying to convolute EJill into everything. And don't even get me started on the Sami diarrhea....Sami, Sami, Sami. Sorry but Sweeney's barely tolerable tics become unbearable when she takes over the Soap.
So there are lot of people tuning out and it's not a tactic it's purely a lack of interest. I've always tried to support the genre but if this is all you've got to offer in terms of writing, I'm not going to miss you.

Again, I don't understand this idea that if one storyline doesn't go your way, the whole show must suck.
I never liked Nicole with EJ, but it's not like I boycotted the show when they were together. I even watched their scenes, even though it broke my heart to see Nicole happy enough to be the woman EJ setteled for instead of choosing to be someone's first choice, like she had been with Eric and Brady.
The boycotting because you don't get your couple just seems weird to me. Boo hoo, you don't get them now. Well, maybe you will down the road; that is the way soaps go.
For me MarDars whole package SUCKED! It has nothing to do with which couples I like but the non sensical garbage I am supposed to swollow because everyone is behaving like nitwits who are dogs in heat panting after someone else. I want orgy of our lives to END! :puke: I thought Dena's idea of romance as constant sex fest was FAR worse than anything I've seen from MarDar

EJ was so pathetic in this episode. Ordering Rafe, Spencer, and Roman out of his apartment when they had a warrant. Loved Rafe's response.

Intruders in your place first thing you would do is tell them to get out. The pathetic was cops who are so stupid they don't know someone else was in the apartment with them. That the door being open wasn't strange and that EJ keeps killer gloves in a ziploc bag taped to a painting in his apartment.
Rafe and the cops are idiots x1000 in this.

Rafe and the cops are idiots x1000 in this. They weren't intruders. They had a legal right to be there, which they informed EJ of before he stupidly told them to get out. I bet they were so intimated, lol. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on who the pathetic and idiotic party was.

They seem great at upholding legalities (obtaining and testing bullets illegally obtained by Nicole would have EJ's case thrown out anyways even if he was guilty, Rafe and Roman are bias as well.) and doing their job with the framer in the apartment with them while they are idiots who don't notice.

Ugh. BD has GOT to do a better job of playing against this writing. He took a giant swan dive directly into the writing traps in this episode. When he first came back, I recognized the effort he was making to play Lucas differently. That all went to hell in a handbasket and I couldn't stand to listen or look at him. Normally I like the EJucas banter, but there was no banter. It was all one-sided screeching.
