I like AS. I think she's a brilliant business promoter. She's probably the only one who actually bothers to "email" and tweet her fans. I constantly get Days updates from her sent to my email. She's an "ok" actress, but a good business woman, and I'm sure that she's held in very high regard by TPTB for all the promotion she does for the show. As a general rule, I don't consider soap actors "good" actors. If they were that good, they'd be on prime time and in movies. Granted, some have made it past soaps, but there aren't that many who have. These days talent doesn't really matter any more. Then again, TV shows and movies aren't what they used to be. |

I actually have to agree. I mean, I think AS has tons of talent, but others have different opinions. And I must say, this show employs LOADS of talentless people. Galen, Bryan, Josh, and Camila immediately come to mind. |

Again, I agree. Definitly about DH compared to ET. No contest! And I also agree about draw. A good story can do A LOT. I was drawn to Jarlena, but I have always laughed at DH as an actor. I mean come on! Waaaayyyyy OTT dramatic. The eyebrow?? It was THE Days joke when I was in high school. So I agree that appealing to people doesn't necessarily mean the actor is talented. I find the same thing is true in music. People like a song and then decide a band/group/singer is talented, when really, it was just a good song that was well done in studio. Doesn't really mean they are talented musicians. |

Too many people and relationships today that I didn't care about. And the ones that I do like didn't get all that much mileage. THANK GOD for the Olympics, tbh. ETA: I liked the Kabe part though. Felt kind of sorry for Austin & Carrie about the song however. Edited by DesignatedShelley, Jul 27 2012, 11:46 PM.

I think this point is completely and utterly false. I've seen better actors on soaps---shoot, even at the local theater, than some who make it to prime time or to the movies. I don't think an actor could be much worse than Kevin Costner, for example, but look how well he's done. I do think Alison Sweeney's acting leaves a lot to be desired, but I kind of like that a woman whom I really do not think has movie star (or soap star) type good looks is doing as well as she is. I wish she'd just do well with Biggest Loser or something though, because I am really not interested in Sami. |

On topic of Ali, I think she can do whatever she wants to do and I applaud her for being ambitious. I also think the show needs to do what is best for itself, as any employer does, and if an employee is not able to give enough to the job then the employer is justified in ditching said employee. She can go for whatever she wants, but if she gets more than what is proportionate to her talent, I can understand people being irritated by that. As for her stay on Days, of course Sami is popular, and when it comes down to it I am a fan, somewhere deep down. But to be quite frank I think this whole thing about EJ and Sami being the face of Days has come about because nobody else has had the time to even breathe on this show. Now that they've sucked up the majority of the screentime for so long the show is dependent on them like a crack addict. Perhaps not as bad as a crack addict, I suppose, since I think Sami/Ali is legitimately good for the show in smaller and more contained doses. But you get my drift. At the end of the day it's not really Ali that makes me irritated, it's NBC, but they're in such a shitty state that there's probably no explaining anything they do. |

If you mean EJ and Sami as a couple, I would have to disagree. They haven't been a couple, at least not until now, and we'll see if it's actually going to happen this time. If you mean as characters, then you're right. At least individually, they HAVE been the face of Days, but just until recently for the past four years all we've had was EJ with Nicole and Sami with Rafe. And yeah, it was bound to change. Even John and Marlena, Bo and Hope, Jack and Jen, Steve and Kayla - the old supercouples had split up several times throughout the years. Can anyone think of one supercouple on a soap who hasn't split up, even for a short period of time at some point of another? I can't. Also, both characters are all people talk about. EJ, Sami, EJ, Sami, weather together or separately. They love them/ they hate them, but most, not all, but most, talk about them in some form or another. I agree, the show should be more balanced. It used to be, years ago, that the shows would take turns on resting and rotating the characters they featured weekly, and it made viewers miss them and yearn for them. It worked well, because fans kept tuning in every day in hopes that they would see their favorite couple/characters, and there were no spoilers either. IMO that was better for the shows. People tuned in to watch every day, weather what they hoped for turned out or not. |

Look, I'm a new viewer to DOOL. I started peeking in about 4 weeks ago and saw Sami and Ej and Will and I gotta tell you - that's what I came back for and am now watching daily to see. I have don't really care about any of the other couples. I'm learning how they're all related by inter-marriages and none of them have what I need to stay tuned into a soap: chemistry between 2 people. Now the actor who plays Ej is nice on the eyes and that's an easy answer so let's talk about Sweeney. What I've seen so far? Failure of the writers to have her say anything other than the same stuff over and over. That's not the actress's fault. Its the writers. She's doing the best she can given a 'holding' pattern storyline but now? We've seen some forward movement. She along with "Will" are coming together for a goal and I haven't seen the show but by the comments? Sami's character hasn't had a goal except her kids. Now she's fighting for justice against her own father. This is getting good. I'm sticking with DOOL for these characters and nothing else. Ratings show an increase of 123,000 people week before this last one we just got done watching. With 38,000 new viewers year over last year. That's me. I'm part of that 38k. Maybe down the line I'll get interested in the others but you want this show to live? This couple is your blood supply. Don't diss it. |

I agree. Ashton Kutcher always comes to mind for me, though there are many, many others. |

Major changes need to be hitting in after the break, continuing the nonsense that is going on now into the fall is only going to turn more viewers away. :shame: |

Yeah I love JS and Ej but I have to agree he's on too much, and the thing is Ej and Sami bring out the absolute worst in each other, and featuring them both so heavily has killed my enjoyment of Days. I haven't watched in over a month, and if things don't change there's really no point in me tuning in after the break either. |

I wouldnt blame JS if he quits the show one day. He seems so drained and exhuasted. I feel the same for AS too. I think she will quit someday too. She also seems exhuasted and drained. |

Yeah, I actually have been getting this feeling that JS will probably leave next year and really I wouldn't blame him at all. AS on the otherhand I have a feeling we are stuck with her till Days is cancelled. :shame: |

I would agree that EJ and Sami are the blood supply of the show, I just happen to think it's the equivalent of tainted blood, and unfortunately draining the entire blood supply is not a good solution, hence being stuck. Time and ratings will tell. Problem with EJami is that they have been on the table for far longer than four weeks, they've been attempted over and over again and the audience reaction is very decidedly polarized. But this is our near future, whether or not any individual likes it, so we're back to "we'll see". My fear is that they'll always use EJami as a pot stirrer because it's polarizing and thus we'll have to deal with the limbo forever. But whatever you think about EJami, it can only be in the show's best interests to have reasons to tune in besides EJami. There was a point in the early 90s where Jack and Jennifer were more or less the only good thing (or one of the few good things) about the show, but that wouldn'tve made it logical for any viewer to want it to stay that way. The better the show is as a whole the more there is for any given viewer to enjoy. And overexposure isn't good for anyone. |
