In regards to the two upcoming "Days of Our Lives" NHL Hockey-related preemptions on Friday 11/23/12 and Tuesday 1/1/13, NBC just mentioned this in a scheduling release:

Friday 11/23/12 and Tuesday 1/1/13:
All feeds of DAYS OF OUR LIVES are preempted this day. Please note: If the lockout of the NHL Players' Association continues and causes a delayed start or cancellation of the NHL season, normal Network programming will be reinstated.

What this means for "Days" is yet unclear from that release ("Days" would be considered the normal Network programming for this time slot). Perhaps a repeat of the show will be aired on these two days?

Killing myself slowly

Hmm so why would they just not air two new episodes? Or would that throw everything off?

Let's hope the NHL players and owners save us from potential Dannifer scenes.

Because it would have the same effect as an unscheduled news preemption, but in reverse....they'd be two days ahead instead of behind. If they aired two new episodes on those dates, then they'd be airing Christmas Day a day early and the first episode of 2013 (scheduled for 1/2) would then be airing two days early on 12/31.

No December preemptions. Coming up are the 11/22, 11/23 and 1/1 preemptions.

Reading further, I guess Inauguration Day will be held on Monday 1/21 (not Sunday 1/20), so that's a preemption too. Looking over the "Days" preemption history, I noticed that the 2001 Inauguration Day was held on a Saturday, so I was guessing that this year's would be held on Sunday 1/20, but it looks like the law does not allow it to be held on Sunday. So "Days" will also be preempted on 1/21 too.
