Regarding Alison Sweeney's 20th Anniversary as Sami Brady: Multiple reports keep stating that January 6, 1993 was the debut date for Ali as Sami. My original records indicated it is actually January 22, 1993. I just did a few extra checks to make sure I had the correct date, and it is indeed January 22, 1993 (not January 6, 1993). I just pulled the tape for 1/6/93 and looked through the episode. There's absolutely no sign of Sami (or a mystery person lurking around). I then checked the 1/22/93 episode, as per my records, and that is the episode where she makes her debut, lurking outside the Pub, and later calling (but not speaking to) Marlena's phone. Further errors on YouTube list her second episode (1/25/93) as actually being her first episode (1/22/93). YouTube is incorrect as well. I'll be uploading her actual first scenes as Sami, which no one seems to have uploaded at all on YouTube, in time for my 20th anniversary tribute to Ali. So for many Sami fans, this might be the first time you see her actual first episode as Sami. Also, I found a Soap Opera Weekly (issue 1/12/93) casting notice that states her debut episode is 1/22/93. UPDATE: Script cover of nearby episode confirms that 1/6/93 is actually the tape date...they were only taping 16 DAYS before airdate back when Ali first started. # 6954 cover confirms that episode was taped on 1/19 and aired on 2/4...just 16 days later. So, based on that date, going backwards in the tape schedule matches 1/6 as being the tape date for 1/22. Mon 1/18/93 6942 (LAST DAY OF TAPING FOR 1992: TAPE late December 1992) Tue 1/19/93 6943 (FIRST DAY OF TAPING for 1993: TAPE MON 1/4) Wed 1/20/93 PREEMPTED PRES. BILL CLINTON INAUGURATION DAY Thu 1/21/93 6944 (TAPE TUE 1/5) Fri 1/22/93 6945 (TAPE WED 1/6) Mon 1/25/93 6946 (TAPE THU 1/7) Tue 1/26/93 6947 (TAPE FRI 1/8) Wed 1/27/93 6948 (TAPE MON 1/11) Thu 1/28/93 6949 (TAPE TUE 1/12) Fri 1/29/93 6950 (TAPE WED 1/13) Mon 2/1/93 6951 (TAPE THU 1/14) Tue 2/2/93 6952 (TAPE FRI 1/15) Wed 2/3/93 6953 (TAPE MON 1/18) Thu 2/4/93 6954 CONFIRMED TO TAPE ON TUE 1/19 Not many people have spent 20 years continually on contract, so I've put a lot of effort into this tribute. Hope all the Ali/Sami fans will enjoy it when it's released later this month (lots of fun surprises in store, memorable clips, etc...), in time to celebrate her real 20th anniversary!! Well, its nice to see that, per the numbers, there's no one at 4 or 5 per week. That's an improvement. Balance seems better among the contract cast of late, aside from anyone who has 1/per week in this post. Some room for improvement, but better than I've seen it. |

5 per week would be a guarantee to be in every single episode, all 255! I don't think anyone's ever had that guarantee before on any soap. |

Stupid question, but is the use of an actor's photo considered part of his episode guarantee? |

I'm pretty sure Drake may have appeared in all 5 episodes in a given week of Days on numerous occasions through the mid to late 90s. That guy was on practically everyday, it felt like. Edited by nickyj12345, Jan 3 2013, 02:33 AM.

I really hope that Chandler Massey chooses to stick with Days when his current contract expires. I've been dreading the possibility that he would decide to move on to bigger and better things, since he's clearly talented enough to do so. I also hope that, if he does renew his contract, his episode guarantee (which is too low at the moment, IMO -- Camila and Blake definitely should not have a higher guarantee than Chandler) increases to no less than three per week. There are also a few people on that list whom I would love to see disappear when their current contracts expire (and I'm sure that everyone who is familiar with my posts will be able to guess the identity of one of those individuals), but that's another matter. I love Chandler and I too hope he stays around for awhile, but his acting hasn't 'wowed' me lately. His demeanor with most of the characters is essentially the same - timid and squirrely. He could be playing the character like that on purpose, given the stress he's under right now - but I'd like to see more versatility from him once in awhile. He is definitely capable of it. Even his demeanor during his NYE interaction with Nick, when he stood up to him and called him out on his homophobia, played as timid. I need to see a multi-faceted Will. Hopefully the turning point will come when he decides to take responsibility for his child. As for the original post, I am happy for something approaching balance. There are multiple interesting, forward-moving stories going on right now (IMO) involving different people and I hope the show is able to maintain that for a sustainable period. |

Oh, yes, many people have appeared in 5 episodes in a week, sometimes they appear in 20 episodes straight, but the guarantee is for the entire year. So a "5 per week" guarantee would mean the person would be guaranteed to appear in 5 episodes x 52 weeks = every episode of the show. "4 per week" is 4 episodes x 52 weeks = around 195-210 episodes, etc... With the budget these days, no one has that high a guarantee anymore. |

Well, this is just based on her first 3 months of this cycle: Camila Banus (Gabi): October 2011-September 2012: 81 episodes = Guarantee: 1.5 per week October 2012-September 2013 (so far): 40 episodes (1st 3 months) = Estimated Guarantee: 3 per week Perhaps after the "wedding" in a few weeks, her appearances might be less. Maybe she'll only be in around 70 more episodes from January-September, which would make her just a 2 per week guarantee. Maybe they went heavy with her for these first 4 months, and then a little light with her the next 8 months. |

That's interesting. I wonder if it's how their airtime is spread out over the months cause BD for instance has the same epi guarantee but he is hardly ever onscreen. Proves that they surely know how to utilize a character even with only 2 epis a week if they want to as in Brady's case. |
